I have been asked several times to make a catch and cook Pike video and here it is! Northern Pike is literally one of my favorite fish to catch and eat! If cleaned properly it is for sure one of the best fresh water fish out there!

I have always struggled with pike cleaning and have never taken out the Y bone, but now I will be changing my method in hopes of getting all the bones out before eating. Severely under rated. Northern pike are the most beautiful fish to look at once caught, the best tasting fresh water fish out there no matter who or how u cook it, & as far as a fresh water fighter goes," Its Got It all!" Including dance on top of the water like a bass. The pike is best bbq ued with real wood & bbq sause tarter sauce for dunkin.lemon juice & butter basting before brushing on the bbq sauce for grilling

Clayton you are a fillet pro . I'd do somthing similar and I fry the y bone piece and backbone for myself and give the boneless pieces to my wife and son . I like the pike to be in the 30 inch size. The smaller ones get released . Once I catch the one I want, I quit fishing till next trip .

Hello Clayton Schick, where I fish we catch so many pike, and they are amazing eaters. Super Underrated, I do the same way of filleting as you, I dont use the 5 fillet method waste of meat and time. The y-bone way is much better. Honestly, I never once thought about going through the skin and using your technique. I never comment on videos but that technique made me put my hands to my head and be like are you kidding me why did I not think of that!!! Amazing video keep it up!

I learned to take the Y bones out about 20 years ago and have taught many the same technique. Every fisherperson I know eat pike. They really are a good eater especially fresh ! It depends on what you mean by "healthy". Canola oil isn't a great fat for humans -- lard has a TON of the saturated fats that our bodies need. Lard -- or better yet, duck fat -- is GREAT for us, in moderation, of course. The trick to great french fries is two fold. First, soak them for a couple hours in salt water. This will pull out the starch, which makes them soggy, rather than crispy. Second, fry them twice. Once they're golden, pull them up, all them to rest and drain, and THEN fry again. 5 mins each fry is about right, I've found, especially for salt-water soaked fries.

A lot of people hate on pike but as long as you take care of it before you cook it don’t just let it sit in a pail full of it’s own slime all day then it’ll be really good! Also thank you Clayton! I’ve really enjoyed your videos and you’ve taught me so much about ice fishing especially that I’ve been more confident fishing unfamiliar waters and going after species I wouldn’t normally go for but I also really enjoy your summer videos as well! I hope all is well!
