Northern pygmy owl zeroes in on a mouse like a cruise missile, complete with mid-course corrections and final vectoring onto target!. The force of the owl hitting the mouse sends them both tumbling. Miraculously, the mouse survives. That kind of controlled crash landing is obviously hard on the mouse, but it's got to take a toll on the owl too.
Thanks to Scott Rashid of the Colorado Avian Research and Rehabilitation Institute (CARRI) for vectoring ME onto the owl so I could get this great footage.
Scott's doing a lot of cool things for owls and other wild birds in Colorado. Please visit the CARRI website and make a donation so he can do more!

(Be sure to check out the live nest cams of Barn owls--very cool.)
