I didn't get a chance to see this performance live in Louisville because I was 2-3 contestants behind you all in the pattern (where I encountered a few of your feathers LOL). The Sara Bareilles version of this song got me through some really tough times in 2014 when I was realizing I was gay and I couldn't stay in my straight marriage any longer. So watching this now instantly brought me back to that complicated and intense emotional time. You all brought more than great singing here, but some genuine presentations of real personal struggles and emotions - and I'm quite sure anyone who has gone through anything similar watches this performance simultaneously with a huge smile yet spontaneous tears streaming down their face like I just did.

As part of the leadership of the Northern Stars, we are very glad to hear that our message was understood and appreciated! it surely is an emotional journey to perform the song and try to convey the message to leave any old luggage behind and move on, freely!

Out of respect for O.C. Cash and the other greats that created SPEBSQSA way back when, can we just please remove the word 'Barbershop" from the name once and for all? Afterwards, do what you want to the music for your own enjoyment. This is fine for some, but to try to call it barbershop is a slap in the face (probably by design) to many of us. The production value, accuracy of singing, theatricality, and over-the-top visual effects are all undeniable and frankly, impressive - it's just no longer barbershop and that genre should no longer be bastardized any further.

I'm sorry that you're feeling like you can't relate to barbershop as it stands with choruses right now and hope you do still find ways to participate that are fulfilling to you. I'm super interested in hearing why you feel as though this isn't barbershop.
