Thanks for the comprehensive and well done review of this phone. I just received mine today which I use with Ooma. I have had much time to test it but so far everything is working as it is supposed to. I really don't like the new phones they are pumping out today. They all seam so cheap and lightweight.
When you have funky incoming rings, it's really fun to hook up a 2500 (similar) w/ a real bell ringer. I've actually got a cordless phone connected to an old WE 685A bellbox/subset. And I'm using GV w/ an OBi200 ATA,
My family had an older version of this phone in the 90s not much has changed design wise over the years of production. Seeing those memory keys with written labels on it brought back a memory of a funny story from my childhood. My mom had all kinds of emergency numbers programmed into the keys and one night apparently our cat who likes to jump up on the counter top called the cops or fire or something but all I remember was being woken up to a cop coming into my bedroom at 2 in the morning lol
I have a NT 9516CW on my desk right now. It is new old stock and I bought to replace my old one that did not have backlighting on the LCD screen. I bought the original one backin the 1990's and used the built in answering machine before I got voicemail. Great phone - mine still says "Nortel Networks" on it. Great analog land line phone.
I had the Nortel 9516 model in the late 90's (the one with answering machine) because a good friend of mine had bought one and I thought it was so cool. I first saw the 9316 models at work (they used a Praxon PBX which supported analog phones), and I soon bought one when I had switched over to phone company voicemail to get the nice big message waiting light. When I bought another one years later it had the Aastra brand on it. I've gone though a number of cordless phones, but am using my old 9316CW again on a VOIP adapter. It's just nice to be able to dial/press numbers without having to keep taking the handset away from my ear.
I have a Northern Telecom Vista 100 series phone. The delay between the indication that the phone is off hook back to the time and date is a good 5 seconds. That annoyed me to no end. I just got a Vista 350 today so I’m going to see how fast that display changes. My school had the newer digital T series phones on a BCM 450 and the second the hook switch was depressed it went back to the time and date. I loved that
Lol your in newbrunswick too! Epic! I'm around the sj area and I remember having a vista 200 as a kid on rogers. Just found a m9417 at value village for 6 bucks now ive just gotta find a good VOIP that can handle dialup lol
I have a 9617 model I got from Joe in Chicago. The difference is it has a USB port and it requires a Windows 98 workstation to run what would become in later years to function like a soft phone. Nortel had done well with the POTS market for sure. However I need to stop you at
Would you know why the time is no longer being picked up by the line? When it first arrived I plugged it in and it displayed the correct time and date right away. When I was fiddling with the base, and relinking it, I somehow lost that ability and now it is running a little fast which of course bugs me a lot.
as far as the stand, how does this work? also, ccan i plug in the cordds with the stand on or do i take it off, then once plugged in, install the stand?
