I've seen some people trying to frame it as "Ridley Scott claps back at Hollywood with le epic zingers" and it's the funniest shit. Ridley is part of the Hollywood elites and he's yelling at some historians.

I don't think historical accuracy is the only factor deciding whether a historically-inspired movie is good, nor historians the top authority on these movies, but Scotty was just being petulant. In a world where people love Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Oppenheimer and Killers of the Flower Moon, RS could have just said "it's an artistic portrayal, not meant to be all literal ya dumbasses" and that'd probably be it, but instead he chose to dig straight down.

True as fuck. I once heard someone argue against universal healthcare on the basis that it would remove incentives to join the military. And that's fucked up, but it makes sense in a way. Until you recognize that, financially, a public preventative care model would save everybody billions.

@@Drekromancer It also isn't enough of an incentive either. If you check the news, the US Armed forces is actually starting to fail to meet their recruitment goals in the past fiscal year, which is a culmination of a greater downward trend in the last decade.
