Alien recording and touring probably fried his voice. That album is high demanding

@@whipsy for me personally, their Mesmer era birthed the most moving and emotionally impactful music and content they’ve ever created (for me at least) and I also think the mixing and tones on that album are better than anything I’ve ever heard in the genre yet the rest of the fan base and as a result they themselves as well seems to shit on that era of their career which has seemingly discouraged them from playing anything from that album anymore and then treating it like it wasn’t special in anyway. Then Alien came along which had some great songs but very average mixing in comparison to their previous album and everyone sucked it off only because Nolly mixed it and not because the mixing was actually good. It was kind of obnoxious to me as a fan to see that. I like Nolly and I think he’s created some fantastic things but not that album. The fucking snare drum sounds like a plastic bucket and the guitars just sound sludgy and hollow but in a bad way. I found it hilarious when they tried to sell an STL ToneHub preset pack of the Alien guitar tones and all I could think was, “who would want these?” I will say though that Paradigm is a song in which all those tones including the snare work incredibly well for. I actually think that song is beautiful including the mixing so it’s not all bad. The new album has better mixing from Nolly for sure imo and I like it much better but the past several years of this band’s history has mainly left me feeling sour as a fan. That’s where all the negative energy I’m feeling is coming from. It’s just the fact that they seem to me like they don’t care at all about that part of their history and I just don’t have nearly as much interest in seeing them live because if it. Why would I spend the money to watch them play a few songs I kind of like and sit through a bunch that don’t really do it for me? I will further add that Alex Milovic left before Alien which was depressing. And then the new guy who was such a worthy replacement and added something cool to the band also left and now it’s just the 4 of them on stage which just looks sad to me. The band aesthetic mattered to me as silly as that might sound and now it’s just all off. I don’t know. I feel depressed like it’s just not the Northlane I fell in love with. I get that bands grow and change but at least play ONE track off that album for Christ’s sake. I noticed they played THE OUTRO for Paradigm and not even the song. If they at least played the whole song I might consider going to their show.

@@chadmichael_ I miss the Mesmer era, too. I wish they could play Zero-One, Render, Paragon etc. live but I've never seen them play these Mesmer songs anymore and that's just sad. I mean, Mesmer is my most favorite album of all time.

@@blueking1806 Dude, yes. Thank you. Every single one of those songs. Citizen, Savage, Render, Intuition, Zero-One, Render, Veridian, and Paragon are all like freaking fantastic songs. So are the other ones but translated live I think Render might probably be the strongest of them all imo. Like please have AT LEAST ONE song from Mesmer in the set list. Like, I appreciate the new music but damn!!!
