All these people bitching about marcus's vocals obviously have no idea what its like to scream and sing and run around on stage for over an hour straight
FlyingVHockey and you know how it is? To scream? Ok. Y, Sam carter, Drew York, cleb (beartooth) can scream an hour? Cuz they make it the other way, then it does Marcus. I don't say that Marcus can't sing. He can. And very good. But in scream I'd rather prefer the old vocalist.
Moran Flog have you seen caleb? He doesn't sing half the time and even then its more pitchy than marcus. I know what its like to scream for a long time, it takes a toll on your voice and it takes a lot a lot more breath and force than singing so its inherently more tiring. Marcus did sick, he had the full package, screamed well, sang well, and kept up an energetic stage persona. Not even a big nothlane fan and I can see that he did well.
People not liking his scream has nothing to do with the performance, its just that his tone is a bit monotone and just plain boring. Adrian had a better dynamic going on with his voicy fry yells and those bone crushing lows.
@@davidhampton7982 I went to school with Adrian. Dude was an amazing bloke. He writes insane lyrics. I'm not the biggest marcas fan but i won't say marcas isn't a fantastic singer. Adrian lyrics are god tier across multiple songs. I still prefer Adrian.
Just for the record Marcus has always been amazing, what people are picking up is confidence, I fell Marcus is just becoming more confident in the role of the Northlane front man. Hence his deliver is becoming more powerful.
Kinda the sad nature of the human voice is that after you scream a lot in one session it's difficult to hold cleans for a long time with perfect pitch, as it is, Marcus does a pretty solid job. Live vocals are hard, kids.
Bullsh*t called here. I have watched Howard Jones transition between cleans and highs flawlessly. also note spencer sotello and M. Shadows. It all comes down to practice and form. Allot of vocalists these days just do shit on record that they know is impossible for them to do live. In this case here it is the case of marcus singing someone elses vocal line. It wasnt written with his vocal ability in mind. Adrian had a completely different patter and method compared to Marcus. Also Marcus hasnt been doing this that long in retrospect. Give him 2 years and i bet he will nail everything always.
chris M. Shadows and Howard have lower register voices that allow more controllable power and screaming mostly fucks with upper register an Head voice. Spencer is definitely inhuman through, he's a beast.
Clearly you're never discovered mr. Devin Townsend who is able to scream, growl and sing perfectly fine and better than most. He is the man that debunks this entire comment!
Marcus can't scream, check 1:21, his cleans are way louder than his "screams" which are just lost behind the music. Adrian did fry shouts, Marcus does fry screams (which are pretty creaky and quiet and weak)
There's finally a good quality live video of this song, yet it's Marcus and not Adrian. Not discrediting Marcus, he sounds decent here, but there's like no good quality videos of Adrian doing this song and that disappoints me
Keep in mind this was their last song on of a headlining set, so it more than likely came close to an hour and 30 minute. His voice of been worn as fuck by the time they played this. I say marcus is an insane vocalist for still even being able to pull of the lows on that considering how long they had played for.
Mitch Hazel if you understood vocals you’d understand that he uses fry screams. Fry screams are not about volume they are about tone. So him cupping the mic is cause the screams themselves aren’t very loud.
@@stannats1493 No excuse for cupping the mic. The tone always goes to shit when people do that. If your screams are lower volume than your clean singing, then hold your microphone away a bit during the clean singing parts, and move it closer during the screams.
to everyone complaining about marcus' vocal.. stfu. go to a show and hear him live, or watch another video. this guy smashes and is better suit for northlane anyways. You're also getting direct mic live feed from this video so you get to hear every single nuance lol
Dude just attempt to sing the ending chorus in the octave he's at... you'll see realize how fucking amazing Marcus is. Given you would even be able to get anything but voice cracks if even that.
You can take any vocalist and take their last performance and they will not sound as good as they did in the first song. ANY Vocalist. pick one. Oli, Corey, CJ, check.
Benjamin Smith yeah even the most consistant vocalist imo Dan Tompkins von Tesseract fucks up his last songs haha Marcus is a fucking beast I saw him life a couple months ago and he hit every note actually and his stage presence has improved so much
just to give the example, back in the day oli used to force his voice to scream the last song just like the first one. and today he lost his voice because of this. this people dont know shit.
Yeah man, exactly hahahaha. They both has the same appearance (With black facemask, the dressup) but Sabian is much more aggressive on stage though. Love them both!
Izmeq Fenner Jon did it 6 months + earlier then everyone else though and the only reason he's not as aggressive as Sabian is because he's not playing easy shit,It's cool other people are doing similar get ups but it should be clear who the originator is.
Northlane rocks and, in my opinion, with Marcus, their new stuff is even more lit. I need shows to come back, man oh man, I wanna see them live so badly. I saw them with Adrian and they were good but I need to see them with Marcus!
I️ hear you, I️ feel like this album was more suited for Adrian cause it’s more powerful & Adrian had a lot of that in his vocals. Marcus fits really well in Northlane tho imo, especially in the direction the band is going, not sure if Adrian could be able to fit well with their newer sound
Give this guy a chance. Dan Tompkins from Tesseract had to have a period of adjustment when he joined as he was singing Ash's songs. We all know how incredible he is now.
Those screams are actually insane. Cleans aren'tperfect but they're still freakin great! They had also clearly been on stage a while already and the screams are savage and on point, killed it.
I dont like the guitar tone at all and Marcus doesn't sound that great eitherI know that this is still just a live recording and they sound great live, but it is still surprisingly disappointing
1:21 OMG his "screaming" is quieter than his cleans? WTF? If you can't do loud fry screams, just reduce the volume at least so people don't understand it's fake... Adrian was waaay better at screaming. Marcus is awesome when it comes to cleans though
