This is one of a series of videos covering the full dismantling, restoration and rebuild of a Norton Commando engine and gearbox. This particular video shows the front engine sprocket being removed from the crankshaft in the Primary Chaincase - and what a job it proved to be! The sprocket really, really didn't want to come off despite using the correct sprocket puller, it took a lot of tension and a lot of heat before it finally let go - with quite a bang!

The engine sprocket can be a real pain to get of I have had the same problem a number of times, the solution I have found to work well is to use an impact driver at a low torque setting on the extractor nut, it works well and has the advantage that if you are not rebuilding the engine you don't have an issue with the heat damaging the crank oil seal. I must say that even though I have removed ten's of engine sprockets it still makes me jump when they finally break free.

Bloody hell Chris, a bit of a tense moment there. Heat is your friend.

I believe it's Whitworth. (I can't remember exactly but having looked at video No 6 of that nut being removed it looks like I'm using a Whitworth socket)
