I just bought a 2nd hand BEV I3s after the lease ran out on my MG Phev. Sure the MG was a comfortable car to drive and all the tech that came with was great. However I would get so annoyed that it only did 52 km on electric and took hours to charge at home. Also, especially during in the winter it would just not run on electric, even when the engine was warm. The car just said no. So this put an additional cost of having to use petrol. It really was so irritating. I felt like a real sucker. It certainly took out much of the enjoyment of driving. Having now bought a BEV and the fun I am having with the I3. I would never even consider touching a PHEV again. Especially since here in Norway, the electric charging network is now pretty good. Mainly charging from home also makes it very cheap to run. Another argument that wins me over now is that many of the new BEVs now run 500-600 +km before they need a charge. Charging times are also increasing. I can also see distances improving drastically over the coming years. I am just afraid that the government, in order to make up for their lost tax revenue on petrol and diesel cars, will start to charge by the km.

Norway's economy does is not dependent on oil and gas. They do make a lot of money from it but have also a very healthy diversified economy. The money made from the oil and gas goes in a national wealth fund.

oil will be needed for a long while, don't worry. plastics and long haul shipping/flights aren't easily decarbonized. No need to waste it on cars.

The situation in The Netherlands is a bit different. The government ended the incentives too fast. Road tax starts for BEV starts in 2025. Company car tax will be (almost) comparable to PHEV and ICE in 2025. Registration tax (small, but will grow) for BEV in 2025. Because the registration tax for PHEV is only a bit more, a lot of new car sales are PHEV (again).

EV's as of right now are too expensive in sweden for broad adoption. We need a good few sub 350,000 sek options before it really gets competitive. Most people in that segment are not really range anxious, but rather winter anxious. Proper parking with battery heaters and chargers everywhere are a must aswell.
@hadtopicausername
@hadtopicausername 20 дней назад
What's the prices of slightly used (two-three years old) EVs in Sweden right now? That's often a far better solution than to buy something brand new. And you don't need battery heaters, if you can leave the car parked at home while plugged in. The car can take whatever power it needs to heat the battery pack from the charger, before trips.

@@hadtopicausername Used EV's still go for more than same segment gasoline cars, even with taxes, but not by much over the lifespan of a car. We're still 2-3 years out from sub 350k sek EV's being well established brand new. Jeep Avenger is getting close, i'm waiting for Skoda Epiq. Automakers still roll out their high end big family SUV's in a market and segment thats well saturated. My next car is an XC40, but after that i'll go electric.

People don't realize in a hybrid the fuel will not last forever if not used. 3 to six months and it turns bad. Would cause injector problems and performance issues. Still range anxiety if you have to remember to use the fuel you did not want to use.

PHEV seems like more of a waste. You would still need to build both an engine/transmission plus all of the other parts that are needed for ICE AND a battery. Seems like a double waste and doesn't make sense to me.

When my parents decided to buy a new car back in 2016, a PHEV made perfect sense for them. They do lots of short trips, where the PHEV will run mostly on battery power alone. And for long trips, which they don't do all that often, they don't need to fiddle around with charging apps and all that stuff (my dad hates apps, and he doesn't even have a smart phone). They're very happy with the car, and it has been largely hassle free and cheap to run. If they were going to buy a new car today, I'd recommend that they buy an EV. I'd still need to persuade dad on the entire app thing, though.

Today you can by some decent EVs in China at prices much lower than ICEVs and that is the reason EVs are taking over in China and EU, USA and Can are posing huge taxes on them. BYD Seagull (Peugeot e-208 comp) at $9.700 or XPeng Mona M03 (Tesla Y comp) at $16.800 are phenomenal cars for that price and it will come to us in several years. Most of EU, Japan and USA brands will not survive it.

Phev growth is crushing Bev growth globally for the time being. Will be interesting to see where it ends up. We don't all have the 3rd highest oil earnings per capital on the globe to support the ev transition as amazingly as Norway has done.....and it's " never Tesla" for me due to Elon's behavior so in the USA it's Tesla or nothing for the most part.

Sharp argumentation 👍 PHEVs combines the worst things from both types of vehicles. Bad EV and fuel range (they have smaller fuel tanks to accomodate EV parts). They are heavy, as you are always lugging around a drivetrain that is not in use. If you drive on the motorway, then the electric motor will not contribute positively on efficiency and when you are driving on battery only, then you are lugging around an engine that is not being used - it is a niche product at best😆

@@OasisAmps well, nearly all manufactures (except Tesla) are either losing money or having paper thin margins, which gets worse with high interest rates… only competition will drive prices down, legacy automakers will do anything to drive margins up.
