The most well-known company in Odda has been Odda Smelteverk, which was established in the early 1900s. The smelter produced, among other things, carbide, calcium carbide, and ferrosilicon, which were important products for various industrial sectors. At its peak, the smelter was one of the largest employers in the region.
Its so cool to see you guys riding around where i live and grev up. It makes me think of how lucky i am and what i take for granted. Love your videoes, Thanks for sharing.
Hi Benjamin, thanks for your comment. We said many times to each other that this must be a fantastic place to live and grow up 😊. As you can probably see from our enthusiasm we had an absolute fantastic time touring your country and hope it's not too long until we can return again. Thanks for watching the series and we really appreciate your kind and encouraging words! Sean and Emily 😎👍
One of the first things I learned about this area (Rogaland/Stavanger) was to expect four rainshowers pr. beer, thaqt`s just how the weather is on the coast
Hope you continued to have a nice ride the rest of your time in Norway. Nice to make your acquaintance. Maybe we'll meet another time on the road. From "The Harley guy" 😁
That road over Röldalsfjellet was the main road before they built them tunnels. Been there with caravan in the 80,s and mark my words when i say it took time back then. Lot of reversing and stops it was. Glad you find them roads because main roads are often packed.
Wow that road must have been busy!! I cant imagine how difficult it must have been to get a caravan through there! -that's skill! We really loved this road and even more so as we were the only people on it. Cheers Sean and Emily
19:36 and 26:47 the north-west side of the path. The postal route went through this pass, and it was so dangerous in the winter that the postmann was said to have a coffin ready in his barn. Januar 1903 postman Gunnar Turtveit and his assistant got surprised by an avalanche, the assistant managed to escape. The boy was not able to find him and went for help, but the search party had to return due to bad weather, and the postman was left for dead. After three days of digging using his post horn, the postman managed to dig himself out and deliver the post to the next "post farm" (relay points where the next postman carrier the post for the next leg) In total postman Gunnar Turtveit was taken three times by avalanches, and survived all times. Beside this road (between the lake and the current road) there is a stone that has inscribed on it: "In memory of postman G. Turtveit buried for 56 hours under an avalanche 3 Jan 1903, dug himself out with his post horn"
Awesome video. I live in Sauda and you passed my house by 30 metres. The waterfall that you passed at 14:16 is called the 'bridal veil' and its beautiful after heavy rainfall. For info, I can tell you that Svandalsfossen can become so big that the road is closed due to too much water over the road so that you cannot see the road on the other side of the waterfall😄. Too bad you didn't have the weather on your side. I have a MC identical to yours and I drive on these roads all summer. This road is loaded with MC all summer. Have a good trip
Hi, thanks very much! Oh wow, so next time we will stop by for a cup of tea =) -what a beautiful place to live! Thanks for the info, we pass through so many places in a day it's hard to keep track so we really appreciate your local knowledge. Wow, we had no idea that can happen! it must look amazing when that much water is flowing -albeit very inconvenient lol The weather has improved a lot now but rain or shine it's an epic adventure to tour through Norway. You have the perfect bike for the country! Thanks again and kind regards Sean and Emily
Emily I nearly said, “be quiet and let Sean concentrate” lol, some of those pass roads are certainly not for the feint hearted! One great aspect of the GS is it does give fantastic engine braking, so you don’t have to wear your brakes out when descending ! By the way I’ve not really been a fan of all black bikes but as the pair of your are dressed in black and the bikes luggage is black etc it does look very cool, very James Bond 😀. I’m going to keep a reference to this trip, definitely one for the bucket list! Ride safe ! 👏👍😀🏍
Hi, hehe when Sean's really concentrating almost nothing distracts him lol. Yeah the engine braking from the GS is amazing -funny enough the back brakes wear out quick as the engine braking shifts a lot of the weight to the back before the brakes are applied. Thanks we life the look too -there are glimmers of reflective silver that you cant really see on the video and they look cool too -James Bond licence to thrill =) Thanks for watching and best regards Sean and Emily
Hi Ian, yeah it's a fantastic country! We are looking at touring Scotland this year so looking forwards to that too. It's rumoured that in 2026 the ferry form the UK to Norway will be open again!! www.forbes.com/sites/davidnikel/2022/07/07/bergen-cruise-line-plans-to-reinstate-norway-england-ferries/?sh=7d8b8fe757e9
One of the best videos , considering 😅the amount of rain you had the pictures and the drone’s footage was amazing looking forward to the next one 👍Graham L , ps well done , wish I was riding this one
Thanks Graham! The rain is indeed making it difficult to Film and edit lol Pictures require an umbrella and the the drone works best in the rain flying backwards =) Glad to have you with us for the ride and thanks as always for your support and encouragement. Kind regards Sean and Emily
Hi Gary, you're welcome and thanks for your comment. Sure, we are using the old BMW Nav V but for this trip we navigated with the Calimoto app using the twisty road setting and it worked really well! Part 2 out Friday. 😎👍
13:07 "... roads are off the beaten path", while driving on a trunk road. (green signs). The the old roads ahead (used as tunnel bypass if the runnels are closed) are nice tor drive if you have a small vehicle..
Yes 'Roads that we ARE going to be doing' (future tense) one has to still use the ferries to cross the Fjords. We take the old road 'Roldalsfjellet Fjellstolen' to Bypass the tunnel and we agree it was a really nice road to ride. Cheers Sean and Emily
This year I've discovered your youtube channel and it's been awesome to watch you guys! 😁Do you have any tips for a new motorbike traveler when it comes to booking accomodations? I'm about to embark on my first trip and I'm wondering what is the best approach when it comes to those things?
Hi and welcome to the channel, we are happy to have you with us 😊 Personally we always book accommodation about an hour or so before we need it using hotels.com. This enables us to not be so restricted by how many miles we have to do. However if you plan on staying in places that are popular then it's better to book in advance or at least the morning of the same day. That's how we do it, this way you are never stressing about missing one of your bookings and thus missing subsequent bookings. If you start searching an hour or so before you need to stop you will at least have the option of finding somewhere within the area so you don't have to double back on yourself. Only a few times have we been caught out with availability and had to ride an extra couple of hours to find something. Thanks for watching and in the description of these heading North episodes you will find a link to the days route in case that's useful 😎👍
@@SeanandEmily Thank you for taking your time to write this. It will be helpful for my trip planning. 😁Also, I started to play around with ChatGPT to see how AI would plan the trip for me. It has been surprisingly helpful.😃
Fantastic video! I thoroughly enjoyed watching you both ride the BMW GSA 1250. Out of curiosity, what's the average speed you guys maintained throughout the journey
Hi Joseph, Thanks very much! i think we have posted 45 videos to this Heading North Tour now =) The speed limits in Norway are 80 kph on most roads and in Finland they are 100kph, as speeding fines are expensive we kept to the limits at all times.
Hi, yes we do have the Shift assist it's actually really good as you say. I find though on the GS at lower revs it's a lot smoother to use the clutch, so when riding casually (on autopilot) i trend to go for the clutch without thinking. when riding 'sporty' the shift assist is super smooth and fast. I've noticed the shift assist is a lot smother on the 4 cylinder bikes (as is everything else lol) Sean and Emily
Hi, thanks very much! Actual we are still using a 10 year old NAV 5! But the Connected Ride Nav will hopefully arrive this week and feature in our next series 😎👍🏻
@@SeanandEmily that’s great…can’t wait to hear and see your thoughts on the navigator. I pickup my Triple Black 2024 GSA this week and am getting the navigator as well.
Hello Can you tell me the stop you got off was it Forsand. My wife and I are travelling your same route from Denmark. taking the same ferry on the Fjord we have booked thanks to your advise.
Hi, no we got off the other side of the Fjord at Oanes. If you check the description of each episode we have put a link of the exact route we took. Good to hear you have booked this ferry as this one gets booked out very quickly. Here's the Link: calimoto.com/calimotour/heading-north-ep05-r-FQtkqZLQZm If you need a 30 day free trial of Calimoto or a discount code let us know =)

Hi Gilberto! Welcome to our channel -great to have you with us 😊. This Heading North Playlist was one of our favourites! Great to hear you are enjoying the videos and thanks for the Sub! Regards Sean and Emily
Hi, you're very welcome and thanks for watching! We appreciate your comment and are lookin forwards to the warmer weather too! Norway has been one of our favorite places to ride and as you can see we enjoyed every minuet of the Heading North Tour! 😎👍
Shaping up to be a real adventure! Em what’s the brand of heated gear you wear? Marie is often cold as pillion and the gear we’ve tried is either too thick and warm, or thin but heated unevenly. We plan to do Norway in 2025 so this is a really great view for us 😊
Oh it really is! -loving every minute of it =) We are both using the heated vests from BMW, they are great and you can buy the optional controller which allows 3 different heat settings. By the end of this tour we will have shared our entire journey so hopefully that will help you plan your trip =). Glad to have you along for the ride! Cheers Sean and Emily
Your videos are excellent. You both totally rock! We have never been sold on Norway before due to watching other RU-vidrs moaning about the weather. Loving the routes you've taken. And the enchanting waterfalls discovered on the roads less travelled. 💚 What a beautiful country! 🇳🇴
Hi Jane, thank you so much!! Your comment means a lot to us! Norway has been a dream of our for a while now and as long as you expect and prepare for the weather it wont disappoint (after all without the rain it wouldn't be as beautiful =) It's hard to pick just 1 route as there are so many options but really glad with the route so far. Thanks again for your encouraging words and we hope you enjoy the rest of the series that we will upload over the coming weeks. All the best Sean and Emily
Nice views & stunning roads 😁💯 Btw ; you’re a couple of weeks ahead on your touring trip when we see this , and how about , before the season is over , can’t you both try the BMW 1250 RT for a couple of days ? I’m curious what you both think of the RT.
Thanks Ake! loving every turn. Yeah that's right, a YT episode takes a lot longer to edit than IG stories, either that or the GS is also capable of time travel lol. We have been wanting to do a trip on the RT so maybe next year we will do this, i think it's a bit late in the year for taking press bikes. Cheers buddy! S&E
Hi, thanks very much and welcome to our channel!! We not long completed the tour of Spain and Portugal Playlist and now we are heading to the Nordkapp. Glad to take you along with us and looking forwards to your feedback. Kind regards Sean and Emily
New episodes Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday evenings 😊 In the meantime perhaps you will like this short tour through the Swiss alps and into Italy: 😊 ru-vid.com/group/PLl_mRzVHVQ0xN6hpboQjhpn9x4nhoGLkx&si=BLNE-JMyw9PsEN96
