Jan-Einar Johansen has 32 eighteen inches elements in his bass wall. They can play above 140 db and are amplified by 47,000 watts. It's so extreme that we didn't believe it until we stood in the middle of the large sound room.
Another great video. Woah Jan-Einar was SO pleased when "normal" was already face melting 128 db and still had 4 more extreme levels to go. That was awesome, he knows the time and effort spent on this setup so far and how enjoyable and amazing it is. *thumbsup* Keep up the effort
Awesome job, JBL pro drivers all the way, their one of my go to drivers, 2226 15s I like alot and have been using those for a couple years now. 4 inch voice coils and 1200 watts max and highly efficient, a perfect driver. I could only imagine the pressure in that room on a bass sweep test.
Who could ask for more out of it? And JBL pro drivers are pretty well top notch and versatile and remain very efficient compared to other low impedance drivers. Also are made to have great mid bass properties if needed.
@@JukeboxAlley Thank you. Thats the reason I use them. I have tested and heard alot of drivers. I wanted a driver with a good motor, low moving mass so I could use them over 40hz. Ad 10 watt to each driver and you play 130db easy. The system is extended to 36 drivers since this video was captured.
Misschien !
He have built them himself with used speaker drivers. So not as much as you would imagine. But he also have 47 000 watt of power. So this is not a budget system 😜
For some reason this video triggered an idea. What if we could have like a community center even 1/5" as epic as this that everyone could rent or access and bring in music to be able to really experience it on a new level?
@@Tacsmoker Right! yeah theres a difference between listening loudly and listening clearly. Maybe less of a party atmosphere and more like a kind of therapy.
Seems like less bracing than would be ideal if you're going to have a sealed enclosure with dual 18 inch drivers in it. Personally I think he should've ported the speakers walls, tuned the cabinets for like 18 or 20 hz and had a bunch of front facing ports. Might have brought more oomph out of the wall. Having said that, this home theater is definitely the coolest I've ever seen, definitely built by someone who loves speakers and sound, no superfluous wood, no hidden speakers, everything is ideally placed. I can't imagine how cool it would be to watch a really hard hitting film such as the new Dune in a theater like this one.
Speaker cabinet is bulid of 27mm baltic birch, the internal walls are of 27mm baltic birch that separates drivers, 2 and 2 drivers share one "box". Then there are additional bracing in every "box". Then there are Iron bracing that Connect the boxes togehter. I've tried portet boxes, 27 of them. This has been a work in progress for several years, I dont miss the ports..😊
@@JanEinarJohansen You know after I left that comment I did get to thinking that perhaps with the large number of drivers, ports might not really be necessary and I guess I should've went with that. 27mm is actually much thicker than I expected, so good work there! Out of curiosity, what type of internal damping do you use in the boxes? Just wool, bitumen pads, something else?
@@CockatooDude just a very small amount of isolation. As you say , there are alot of drivers . The Main thing with the system is not to play loud , but the internet want it otherwise 😅.
@@JanEinarJohansen Ahh right, so because the drivers don't have to move very much, the internal reflections inside of the cabinet are relatively small compared to the output, if I have that correctly. The more I look at this driver array the better of an idea I think it is. You've inspired me I must say.
@@CockatooDude The only reason I have those big amps is becouse I can. The system needs very little power to play very loud, when I play 120db in sweetspot [5 meters away] you cant tell if the speaker is playing or not, hardly no movement.
@@franksemi_modular Thats Great 😊 We have noticed that people from Denmark and Sweden use less time on our videoes. So this time I’ve made subtiles in danish and swedish
Jet aircraft, 50 m away 140 db Threshold of pain 130 db Threshold of discomfort 120 db Chainsaw, 1 m distance 110 db Anlegget kan altså spille over 140db, som er imponerende.
not that iam Dr Evil or something buuuuuuuuuuuuuut what whut happen if look in a person in the room and slow and slightly max out the volume from a safe distance?
Not in a SBA setup. By making it a planar wave, one doesnt only eliminate sidewall and roof/floor reflections, one eliminates any room gain too. So it behaves like it's outside.
@@crisfiler6128 jupp, but he built the entire room for that purpose. So, not a big deal. With that many drivers, a dba setup is a possibility too. A second array of drivers on the back wall in reverse polarity. Time delayed the distance from the front to the back. Then it would swallow the entire plane wave and nothing reflects back. It could probably be less than 32 drivers too, since there is a loss in output over distance. So it only needs to match the volume of the wave when it reaches the back wall.
Very funny. Putting half of the subs backwards will prepare for proper dba and flattens bass massively. Will perform 200% better with active absorption. And all is there already
I’ve seen bass measurement of this. Never seen better. And we have been to three setups with DBA. The positive with passive absorption is that you get even bass in all of the room 😊 But 1 1/2 meter of absortion is not for everyone 😜
No distortion in this wall. If it sounds distorted it’s my microphone 😊 At 128 db 50 hz the bassmembranes was barely moving and the bass was even in the whole room. Try that at home
@@Stereopluss I was reading the distortion figure from your display. It would be stupid for you to think I would listen to MY speakers and criticize yours. Even though I operate my 2, EV 30W subs at under 2% THD and up to 127db at 32 hz. I'm acutely aware how audio/acoustics works. My, PhD in electronics (from 1979) and a lifetime of playing upright in a philharmonic aid me in my audiophile obsession. It's not that I disagree with your assertion that 50hz is bass; but it was chosen (by you) as the only note your wall plays at all. It's NOT ideal, and the lack of distance spec is also very telling. The speaker you chose is advertised as a mid-bass driver. I call you out as a LIAR when you claim 12% ~ 150% THD is "no distortion in this wall". I question your miking method to populate that display. Your coupling and nodes are your downfall. You are basically sitting in one CUP of a large headphone. Or inside of a horrid Isobaric box. Your box volume was too small, the wood too thin, you didn't even flush mount. You gave NO THOUGHT at all to making a working enclosure match your drivers OR room. You just threw a large amount of speakers at the problem. It is the least imaginative solution I have ever seen and it fails. It may knock the socks off the ignorant; but it's NOT the goat. Your own on-screen analytics prove that.
@@communitycollegegenius9684 The THD on measurement is not valid at all. The measurement is done by a pressure sensor not a normal mic mountet on the sofa, just to read SPL. I have real THD measurements of it , that shows otherwise. How the hell do you think 32x18" would get that THD with just a few watts of power used :) I`m not shure why I bother to answer, but Stereopluss is a magazine that travels around and makes videos of peoples systems. I am the owner of this system. The speaker I`ve chose is advertised as low frequency transducer, not mid-bass, what drivers are used ? Since you know. How big is the box ? since you know it. Is 27mm Baltic Birch thin? "You gave NO THOUGHT at all to making a working enclosure" Well, thank you. 50hz was just to show how stable the FR was in the entire room, like it is from 8hz to over 200hz. sorry for that one, next time I`ll play som pink noise or even better some music ;) Have nice weekend JEJ 🙂
