A hilarious docudrama from the Norwegian woods. And a comprehensive guide to the most Norwegian thing ever; Hyttetur (stay at the cabin). For Norwegians this is a sacred place for enjoyment and mindfulness. But my God it comes with a lot of rules. In this rich, sarcastic and funny video you will learn all you need to know about what to do and not to do. It’s a saga about the Norwegian soul and mindset. You get an inside view to a typical trip with an ordinary Norwegian family. A stay that should have been relaxing turns up to be a stressful experience with a lot of activities and work to do. We will go trough each one of them, from the toilet call to the dish washing. If you know and have learned all the skills presented in the video - you can call yourself a real and true Norwegian. Are you ready for this bizarre fairytale?
For the first time Yourway2Norway travels outside of Oslo and far out in the middle of nowhere. Deep inside a secret and beautiful Norwegian landscape packed with work, serial killers and pines. Mads is scared and has anxiety due to the distance from his home. Ronald is all geared up to enjoy and explain to all of you the inner meaning of the stay at the cabin. Its not what you think. The tempo is unexpected, the comfort is bad and the closeness is unbearable.
Mads is shouting and screaming, Ronald is working like a mad man and in the middle of the stress, the whole family breaks up for some heavy trekking in the woods. This is a story you will never forget.
The whole video is recorded in a weekend and represent an authentic family and friends life in Norway. It’s a peak behind the tourist brochures and communicates rare and raw scenes from the most important happening in a Norwegians life.
Thanks to the owner B, K, J M, M, P and H. WE LOVE YOU!!!

** ABOUT YOURWAY2NORWAY **
YOURWAY2NORWAY is a different travel channel. We combine education with humor and entertainment. It’s an authentic inside guide to real life in Norway. We highlight small and large themes, cultural characteristics and Norwegian phenomena. All the stuff you won’t find in a tourist brochure.
The content is perfect for people who travel to Norway as tourists, visit friends and family in Norway, study in Norway or work in Norway. It is ideal for anyone with Norwegian roots and DNA. It is also interesting for anyone who wants to learn more about other cultures and people. And for all of you looking for some smile and laughter.
The guys behind are; Ronald Sagatun - a enthusiastic and sarcastic Sami Latino with a Norwegian passport. Throughout his life he has tried to find out what it means to be Norwegian. Now he shares his hilarious experiences. Mads is a grumpy Norwegian dude, providing the channel authenticity and the typical Norwegian way of viewing the world. We always try to be funny, self-deprecating, human and, when it´s necessary; sincere and passionate.

Many years ago a German friend of mine quoted an old German saying. I can only remember part of the German, though. "Life is like the little ramp going up to the chicken house: kurz und scheissliche." (Short and shitty.) (Apologies to delicate readers.) That really stuck with me. I think a "vacation" like this might also qualify. Nevertheless: this is one hilarious video -- with terrific production values.

There's a crazy couple in far northern Sweden who moved from London to live an authentic ancient Nordic life. They were featured on a special by Kevin McCloud of Grand Designs (UK) fame. They collect freezing water from a stream every morning of the year, make their own fur clothing, no mobile nothing. Not sure if they will enjoy it as much when in their 60s/70s/80s ...

I agree! I grew up on a lake in the country, with a field and woods across the street.....but my dad would still take me hunting for mushrooms locally, and would spend weekends up north at my grandparents' trailer. It was very much like this, only less spacious.....now, I will only camp with water or electricity. Otherwise, you'd better be able to offer an activity, like rafting or something. I Won't go without electricity and water just for the privilege of sitting and drinking a beer by the fire.

When I want to relax, I go to my shed, get my bicycle out. I take with me: 1: a book 2: something to eat 3: something to drink 4: a foldable chair 5: maybe some maps but they are not really necessary. I put everything on my bicycle and go. At least 4 or 5 hours later I am home again. Now that I am older it has gone down to 2 hours. I have no plan, go wherever I like: forest, heather, meadows, river, sand drifts, very small hills. Any type of landscape is within reach. Except mountains. When I see a nice place to sit, I unfold my foldable chair, take my book, enjoy nature. It is very relaxing and definitively not work. I like your way, except for the working part. The toilet reminds me of my youth holidays. I still can smell them. You have spectacular nature. I think I could sit all day and watch the views. But I still needed my book of course.

Here in Colorado, many city folk, like you, have cabins in the mountains. We have a lot of mountain ranges in Colorado. A couple of issues we face: 1. Monumental traffic jams. “It’s Friday, let’s head up to the cabin!” It’s a familiar sentiment and one at least a half-million of your fellow Coloradans share. The roads leading to the mountains from major population centers become horrifically grid locked. 2. You can never, ever drink safely water gathered from a stream or lake. 3. Cabin burglaries are an unfortunate consideration. You have a cabin, often empty for weeks or even months at a time; a tempting target for the unscrupulous. But the clean mountain air! The stars at night are so clear without all the light pollution. And the quiet. You can hear the wind traveling through the Aspen trees! Heaven.

My grandmother was Norwegian and grew up on a farm in Wisconsin. As soon as she was old enough, she moved to a city, later got married and never wanted to live in the country again. She said she didn’t want to live anywhere that didn’t have sidewalks. Our Norwegian ancestors brought the cabin experience to Minnesota. Today the cabins all are like regular houses with running water and electricity, but when I was a child there were lots of these simple cabins. My aunt and uncle built a cabin on Indian reservation land in the 1950s. No electricity or indoor plumbing, but lots of wood ticks! And working all weekend ! The city life for me!

I loved, love this video!! I haven't laughed like this in years. I went to Norway and was invited to the "Hytte" of a very prominent family there at the time it was really a cultural shock because I haven't seen snow before and the entire experience of using a bathroom outside was really scary especially at night time, not having running water was too much for me at the time. Having said that, I had a great time (once I came off my initial shock). I was also extremely surprised that we each had to contribute to the expenses incurred by the host. I love Norway, I do purchase Norwegian food here in USA., at least 3 times a year. Oh, I forgot the most important part. I then married a Norwegian man. I do not subscribe to any channels but you guys are too much and I am going to break my rule. You guys are simply hilarious. Keep it upt.

Generally, cabins in America have wells. If you go to the expenese of building a nice cabin, adding well is that much more. There are two kinds of cabins, in America. One is a hunting cabin, which is generally rougher. The second type of cabin is near a body of water, and you have electricity. Woman don't really like going without electricity. Because the second type of cabin is on a lake, you have gas powered water craft of some sort. The hardship of the second type of cabin is, you have to take short showers, because wells have little water. At night, you build big fires, in fire pits, and drink to much. Then you sleep till noon the next day.

I lived in Norway for 6 months with my friend's family. At Christmas, I ate too much walnuts. We planned hyttetur for New Year's. There was so much snow in Telemark so the outhouse was buried. we had to dig a tunnel. We were getting snow off the roof when I suddenly needed the outhouse....I needed the outside all hyttetur. We got back to Larvik and on the news...Salmanilla outbreak from walnuts! 😳

This was great! I can see that Mads really enjoys this😉. Will this become a monthly activity? It's remarkably akin to stays in State cabins, where you bring your own bedding, cooking equipment, axes, etc. It tests your planning skills and your levels of creativity😊. The section with the two seat toilet was interesting, if you like the buddy system...So, is Ronald buying Mads his own saw and headlamp for Christmas? And why didn't we see Mads' cooking skills here? Ronald looks so relaxed. I can see he's a natural at this.

This is so close to what some Americans experience at “camp”. There are even towns in the boonies where the majority of houses, known as camps, are only lived in during the hunting and camping season. A big difference I noticed was, obviously, no hunting was taking place. A small difference I noticed was no outdoor campfire to roast marshmallows over in the evening. I’ve taken to my “staycations”, as I already live in the woods. Love your videos!

What do we do in our country to relax? we just watch YOURWAY2NORWAY! honestly. Wow! We`re very impressed! the landscaping is simply breath taking and the view from the wooden dock afar into the lake is beyond the unthinkable for a postal site! for us Sydenners (used to sun, sand and warmth the whole year) a Hyttetur is the idea of a dreamed vacation into northen nature, there should be a United Nation holiday exchange law about it to improve humanity... I have a few questiones dear Ronald and Mads: 1 - What is the name of the region? 2 - Is that a lake or open sea? 3 - What is the name of the song at 5:40? (don`t recognize if it is an ¨A-ha¨ song) 4- Would you go back to Hyttetur to show us the midnight sun season? Thanks for sharing these great videos! have our best regards, Cheer! (PD: when Mads went for nocturnal number 2, I thought we would find Ronald relaxing doing mind setting Sudokus with a glass of wine at the small cabin, haha)
@YOURWAY2NORWAY
@YOURWAY2NORWAY 4 года назад
Agree 100% with the exchange idea! The region is called Finnskogen. A lake. The song is called; "Mellom bakkar og berg" To see the midnight sun we have to go North where I grew up, Mads says noooo. Hola, que tal?

At 9:13 - wait, is she really sweeping the forest? We thought Trump just made that up. :D This reminds me of the family cabin in Maine. We got there after a 4 hour drive late at night. Sometimes, in September, it was cold, so we had to light a fire first thing, even before unpacking. Then making the bed and falling in, piled with blankets. Falling asleep to loons and owls and a brilliant night sky. The next morning, making coffee, maybe getting the fire going if the day was chilly, breakfast, getting the kayak out and going for a morning paddle on the lake. Then cleaning up the cabin if no one had been there for awhile. Sweeping the deck, the entryways, scrubbing the shower, etc. (Oh, we had indoor plumbing). Clearing the brush from the path to the lake. More kayaking. Then the happy, happy year that an electric heater had been installed. No more lighting fires, except the obligatory campfire for hot dogs that evening. Then the next day, packing up, cleaning the cabin, doing the laundry and the last dishes, putting the kayak away. Bye, bye cabin and lake. The long drive home, joining city traffic as everyone else came from their cabins, too. :D

First, thank you for sharing your invaluable sense of humor. (I want to go to the hyttetur if it is in those woods) I have been considering the phrase, "There is no bad weather, only bad clothes." My first thought is what lovely sweaters every one wears. They are always attractive; expensive. The next thought is if clothes are bad why is everyone wearing them? seriously, I bought a rugged pullover waterproof ski jacket that I still have for excursions into in-climate weather. With that jacket in my pack, and warm layers, it feels like the weather is always enjoyable. For those that are wondering here is song in English: Between highlands and hills by the ocean the Norwegian has found his true home. He himself has laid the foundation, Built upon it a house of his own. He looked out on the empty land, lonely, on the strand filled with hard craggy stone. ‘Let us clear out this place and start building. Then this land will become our own home.’ In the winter his thoughts often wandered: ‘Oh, to travel afar to warm lands!’ But in spring shone the sun on the hillside, and his thoughts turned to home by the strand. And when meadows like gardens are blooming, filled with flowers on fields once so drear’, and the nights are as light as the daytime, there is no place that he holds so dear. BTW: Many Norwegians immigrated to the USA. My community is one of those in which they settled in great numbers. (yeah we have harsh weather) So, the only European trip I have taken was to Scandinavia, for the beautiful geography and I also became interested in where my neighbors' ancestors came from. God bless!

Ronald: "This is peaceful" 🎶 Mads: "This is Work!!" lol We already live in the country in Tenessee. Our idea of relaxing is sitting on the front porch, walking or working in our yard, and listening to the wild & farm animals. We go in the summer about an hour's drive to the lake for a day of swimming and fishing. No cold, no snow, no cabin, no fireplace, no outhouse. I guess that is our Syden. Ha en fin dag ❤

That's more like it. My parents both have cabins in Sweden. One of them is a sea cabin. It's small, but close to the beautiful Strømstad skjærgård. Dish washer and shower. If it wasn't for that the beds are too short for me. I love it. Actually I was a bit surprised by how nice I think this Hyttetur was. I have childhood traumas from a remote cabin in Jotunheimen. In Greece, on winter you probably go to watch a football match in order to "relax", if you are in the cities. Food and drink with good company is also very popular. In the summer, an umbrella by the beach, with good friends and a couple of beers would work fine. Someone who has a summer house by the sea can relate to this, but almost all the summer houses in Greece have water, electricity and at least a phone...
