Credits to the Pilots, nice landing! He most likely had problems with controlling the aircraft because of the hydraulic failure. And it is highly impressive that the pilot managed to land it so controlled considering the condition of the weather and aircraft. Not sure what happened, but I know that they had a hydraulic failure, only one wing with spoilers extended and damaged wheels bursting, maybe even steering damaged because of the hydraulics. Edit: I just read the article. And it turns out they only had spoilers on one wing to make sure that they landed on the starboard wheell to avoid the burst tyre.

The ARFF or CFR (I'm old school ) equipment should have been a lot closer to the runway and spread out further apart! The video was very nice. Thanks Doug ( Dallas, Tx.)

Norwegian pilots did well to stop at runway ofc ATC there had to divert orher aircraft for inc but with a blown tired it would risk to get more damange also they have to check the runway for debris which is a hazard for others landing there and also steering the aircraft with that issue would been diffecult.

You can see the tyre on the left main landing gear burst upon touchdown.

The tire is already damaged before it landed,seen here in another video.. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gWE0K-Zno4I.html

I saw what had happened on the other video john mason and I suspect the tyre was gone too low and its caused it to go bang and shredding it into pieces mate

John Mason Also only spoilers on one wing, steering seems messed up and hydraulics failure.

Why does response action always take so bloody long? Is anyone sure of what they're doing??
@simpleNomadUK
@simpleNomadUK 2 года назад
what are you expecting them to react TO? firetrucks have to wait for clearance to enter the runway, even then they were behind the plane before it had completely stopped. Then they are assessing - is there any fire? is the aircraft about to collapse? what are the immediate dangers? they are also talking to the flight crew via radio - his sensors and instruments tell him more than can be seen with the eye. just because from a remote camera angle there doesn't APPEAR to be much going on, there is actually a HELL of a lot going on

Why did they keep the passengers on board for so long
@travishatch2986
@travishatch2986 6 лет назад
Marvin Marvin The risk of injury for the slides is normally 4/5 people for a plane like this, and since there is no immediate danger such as a fire, they keep them on board as it is actually safer, if they used the slides, 1. People injured 2. Compensation to those injured and of course let the fire fighters do there job before all just running off

Hi John - any chance you would be good enough to drop me an email (you can get this in my profile I think) as I don't know of any way of contacting you as messages via RU-vid are now turned off. I'd just like your permission to use part of this clip in a training video for BHX? Many Thanks :)

I’m not a pilot but why couldn’t they get this aircraft off the runway and turned into a side junction to deal with it therefore keeping the runway open? To the untrained eye it appeared to be no threat or risk and the usual over reaction and let’s close everything down like the British usually do in a crisis for hours and hours.

Risk management. It's better to inconvenience a few thousand people for a few hours than risk the lives of a few hundred onboard. I flew into BHX on the last flight just minutes before this occured. Myself and the captain were listening on the fire rescue frequency and could hear talk of burst hydraulic lines and fluid over the runway. The runway was going to be closed at that point anyway to clean it up so why not deal with the situation on the spot? Hydraulic loss can give all sorts of problems from no brakes, to no steering. If you had hydrualic fluid leaking on hot brakes it's a huge fire risk. Not something you want to delay. Imagine the news reports had they delayed dealing with the situation to make sure the runway was open to keep the £££ flowing and keep people happy whilst 189 burned to death?

Alan Michael the way it landed he possibly had steering issues.. hence the possibility of it stopping on runway..and getting the FS out to any hotspots asap.

There may also be debris on the runway from the landing, so would need to check that out anyway before reopening the runway.

Because... 1. Hydraulic failure, so nose wheel steering doesn't function. 2. Tire failure so plane would have to be dragged 3. Tire failure so landing gear gets hot enough to burst other tires which then burn 4. To prevent 3 fire rescue must spray retardant on gear ASAP 5. Debris on runway could cause more issues (Air France concord accident) 6. Removing passengers before dragging plane off runway reduces weight and causes less damage to runway and taxiway 7. When fire rescue services are actively involved in, well, rescue services no other planes are allowed to land or take off anyway, you know, just in case they may be needed elsewhere

ARFF seemed out of position for the landing.
@efoxxok7478
@efoxxok7478 6 лет назад
Gregory W I don't agree. They wee clear of the runway which is necessary since plane was landing in a state of reduced control. Don't want them becoming part of the accident. It's not like in Airport 75 where they race down the runway behind the plane. Because there was no visible fire or smoke retardant was held until engines were shut down to avoid further damage. Unless there is visible danger they won't do anything without communicating with the flight crew. Likely flight crew asked for the retardant after they noticed a spike in brake temp, and they had a chance to shut down the engines.
@claro371
@claro371 6 лет назад
Efoxx ok I disagree. They were staged too far from the arrival runway. Obviously I was not there, but the video does not show any additional ARFF units at other locations.
@efoxxok7478
@efoxxok7478 6 лет назад
Gregory W you should review the aftermath of other incidents where control was lost on, or after touchdown. It was 30 seconds from when Norwegian crossed the taxiway till the first vehicle came into sight. They also could not move into the runway until clearance would be given by controllers giving them the runway. All together it was a text book example of fine work.
@simpleNomadUK
@simpleNomadUK 2 года назад
@@claro371 two units plus two officer cars entering immediately behind the aircraft plus another appliance approaching from the front of the plane. They will have been staged where ATC staged them
