For some ports, the ship cannot actually dock at the port for various reasons (too big, etc.). For those ports, the ship anchors just a bit offshore and guests board smaller boats that go between the ship and the port. Not for us! We had a great time on our cruise! The ship only felt crowded if it was raining during a day at sea. That's when the indoor activities had more people than usual and made it more difficult to find seating.
