Video: Neil Didsbury
George Plunkett took photographs around the city of Norwich his whole life. His passion for photography led him to capture some key moments in its history. With the advent of the internet, Mr Plunkett's son Jonathan spent thousands of hours scanning his father's pictures so that they could be shared online. EDP visual journalist Neil Didsbury re-traced George Plunkett's footsteps and tried to capture modern life in the same locations. So has Norwich evolved over the past 90 years?

Totally agree with the other comments, I had the pleasure of meeting George Plunkett around twenty five years ago when he signed two of his excellent books for me, I had cheekily popped round to his house but he was very welcoming and even asked if I wanted a cup of tea, left a legacy of Norwich when it was prettier, cleaner and more friendly.

Norwich born and bred with a short interval at Hyde park barracks at 65 I would say it has evolved into the 2nd biggest car park in the country .

That is a great little video which I enjoyed very much and sincerely hope you'll create more of similar format. As a big fan of Mr Plunkett's web site I tried to find one of the photos you have used but I have failed to locate it. It's the one showing Wensum St. and the Ribs of Beef plus the butchers next door from where, presumably, the pub got it's name. I just can't find this photo so could you point me to it's location within said website please? Many thanks.

Strictly speaking, it was a shelter and ticket office for tram passengers and was erected in 1928. Sad really, as the trams were withdrawn in 1935.
