Thank you for bringing awareness to Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD)!! In an older episode Dr. Dubrow said it was a personality disorder, and it bothered me quite a bit. It is actually an anxiety disorder closely linked to Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). I’ve been struggling with it for nearly my entire life. It’s taken away everything from me. Thankfully I am not focused on one particular aspect of my appearance like my nose. I would never get plastic surgery, but I’ve known many people that have. Someone once broke their nose with a hammer because no plastic surgeon would operate on him anymore. It’s an extremely debilitating disorder that can sometimes lead to suicide. Thanks again!!

You can hear pre-surgery that her voice is nasal because she can’t breathe properly, but she barely mentions the breathing issue, it’s all about the look. I had an aggressive rhinoplasty in 1976, almost the entire nasal bone was removed, roof left open, cartilage at the tip sliced. It deteriorated over the years but I didn’t want ears and ribs chopped up just to look better. It wasn’t until the pandemic that I realized I couldn’t breathe under a KN95 mask. The reconstruction gave me my breathing back. A new bridge and better tip (using cartilage from the ear and connective tissue from the scalp) vastly improved appearance, bu that was icing on the cake. It’s great to see her looking good. In the long run, it’s the healthy nasal breathing that’s going to pay dividends.

@@riobrasilsambashowssambist1453it wasn’t a gaslight, it was true. Yes it’s obvious she couldn’t breathe correctly, but when the only issue mentioned was appearance, that’s a problem. If she went in there and told them she want a nose job because she could barley breathe and it effected her daily activities, they wouldn’t have had to have the convo they did.

The nose looks much better in the after photos, but I think it's interesting that she has more of a dorsal hump after the surgery than before.

It’s quite common actually, some people develop calluses after rhinoplasty. It might be scar tissue too. I like her new nose too, he did a great job ☺️

I'd say the only downside was her breathing was bad. It doesn't look bad to us, but she's the one that was living with it. Body Dysmorphic Disorder will mess with you in your mind. It will put in intrusive thoughts and make you feel bad about yourself.

We know that but she didn’t… that’s why the doctors brought up Body Dysmorphia Disorder. People with this disorder literally see something different in the mirror than what everyone else sees. When I was 16, I had a mild BBD episode. I lost a lot of weight. My friends and family kept telling me I looked good and didn’t need to lose anymore weight. My therapist was concerned I had an ED. Meanwhile, I thought I was big. What I saw and what everyone else saw was totally different. It wasn’t until about a year later while looking at photos from that time that I realized I had BDD. In all of my pictures I was clearly thin and I was stunned that I thought I was big.😂 I was delusional, literally.

It didn't look bad at all! I was staring trying to see while she was talking and couldn't figure out what it was. Wasn't till the overhead shot going into surgery that it was noticeable. It's great her confidence and especially breathing was improved though! We're always our worst critics.

⁠@@rantallaboutit its so crazy! I had the reverse, I kept eating horribly and gained over 60 pounds but literally did not see it. I was completely in denial of the weight gain and refused to change my eating habits because I just could not see it. It took a few years and seeing people for the first time after the gain and having them say "wow you got really fat" that I really started to believe it despite the fact I still could never see it in the mirror. It's crazy what our minds can do and the depths they can bring us to, and it's so hard to convince anyone of anything regarding how they look when they just don't see it, good or bad. I hope she really did get help for this, and wasn't just saying she felt better for the show. She looked so beautiful before and after, it's so fucked up that our brains can do alter reality in that way!

Her nose was crooked and was inhibiting her breathing. She also saw the difference between the before and after, and it had a significant toll on her mental wellbeing. Just because those of us on the outside don't see much wrong with it, doesn't invalidate her feelings about it.

I get it. Everyone told me my nose was fine. But I still hated it. Got it done and guess what, I got BOTCHED! I've had 2 reconstructions since.

I don’t feel like she has BDD. She doesn’t like her nose and she wants it better. I had a nose job at 21 and I’ve never had BDD.

Yes I also didn’t feel like she has BDD. The nose might not have been the worse but the previous surgeon f* it up and she didn’t feel like herself anymore. Good he decided to help her ☺️

Agree, I'm sure the experience of the bad surgery was traumatic and it did make it look pretty abnormal. I don't think she has BDD either.

Competing with your siblings in that way isn’t healthy & something tells me even if her nose was as she wanted it she’d still feel this way. It kills me that people blame outside stuff on self esteem & self love-it definition is in the words itself-self. Plastic surgery doesn’t equal happiness. Trust me. Even when you get the results you want. It’s like buying something you really want & then getting it in a sense. I get that our bodies are with us for our entire lifetime but it’s not the end all be all. She’s beautiful even before nose job

To be honest there was nothing wrong with her face even before. I mean yes the nose might have been a bit crooked but she looked just as attractive before the surgery as she does after. The insecurities were all just in her head, it was her own perception and feeling of not being good or beautiful enough. I do not think that she looks better now than she did before, but glad to see she is happier with herself after she got it corrected. I imagine at least it's better for her breathing as the septum is straight now.

They have rejected lots of people who want things that are not good for their bodies. You can find them on RU-vid. Also, this is a newer episode. Their advice has progressed with time and more research into the mental aspect of plastic surgery.

I think it's a fine line between one thing and the other. On one hand, yes her nose is crooked and would absolutely benefit from corrective surgery. Her negative feelings about it are valid. What the doctors are concerned about is the intensity of these feelings and her hyperfocus on her nose. Remember we haven't watched their entire consultation and they probably discussed more things that we didn't get to see, which raised red flags for them as surgeons who see this all the time. They just want to make sure she's not striving for perfection, so that if she gets a 70% improvent, she fixates on that and not on the 30% that is not perfect. The goal is to prevent her from going to get more surgery in search of the 100%, which could end up in her ruining her nose on the long run if she gets multiple rhinoplasties.

What do you mean? She did clearly have a very asymmetrical nose (though nowhere near as bad as she was making it sound), and she got it in a wrestling accident, not because of a botched nose job. She was essentially just getting corrective/reconstructive surgery to make it straight.

As someone who's dealt with BDD and is finally improving once I got into my mid 20's, this girl definitely was suffering from it. She couldn't stop hyperfixating on the appearance of her nose and it greatly affected her self esteem to the point of it impairing her life.

To be fair, he does comment that he's a plastic surgeon, not the kind of doctor that deals with that side of the medical world. There are specialists for everything and his is plastic surgery. He may have just exaggerated for the camera as well.

@@mysterywilliams8241 Yeah I don't know though, I mean it was clearly well outside of the norm. It's not like she had a normal nose and was fixating on that, it was pretty darn crooked. I don't have BDD but I have OCD and I don't feel like she's reaching super obsessive levels. I think most people would feel the way she did if their nose was that distorted from how it originally looked (especially women, who have so much value placed on their appearance)

@timeiswhat the thing about bdd is that it's an obsession with a real or perceived flaw. You may actually have the flaw you're incessantly worried about but it becomes a problem when it's on your mind nonstop and affects or impairs your daily functioning. Even if a woman has a "flaw" it's not healthy to obsess over it at all times and feel like there's a magnifying glass over the one thing that you see wrong with yourself. I struggled with a lot of things but one of the biggest ones for me is I swore up and down that I was "deformed" and looked like a t-rex or centaur when really I'm just pear shaped. I have a small bust and a small waist and wide hips and large butt. Now that I've done a lot of work on myself and gone through therapy I recognize my shape in so many other woman and no longer believe I'm deformed. I would spend hours and hours daily staring and hyperfixating on how "terrible and unnatural" that I looked and was convinced everyone else saw me the same way even though the way people actually saw me says otherwise. I hope I made sense

I think you mean the little hump. It’s not unusual after rhinoplasty, it might be scar tissue or callous formation. Even so the nose looks great !!

I did not see anything weird about her before nose. Yeah it has a little bump on the inside of her right nostril but so do I I never thought of it as something unusual.

Im sorry but the difference is negligible. To me her before and after pic is no make-make versus made up.. shes pretty in both pictures.. her nose wasnt bad enough for surgery.. i domt see the difference

Maybe you just don't see detail very well? I see a pretty obvious difference, especially from her left side and the bottom view.
