For context, the original Nosferatu was an old Silent Film era horror movie from 1922. It was an unofficial adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula that made multiple changes to try and avoid a copyright lawsuit, such as the characters' names (Count Dracula became Count Orlok or 'Nosferatu'), switching the setting from 1890s London, England to 1830s Wisburg, Germany and heavily changed the ending from the book. Stoker's widow still won a successful lawsuit and the courts ordered for all copies of the film to be destroyed. Thankfully some copies managed to survive and it has since become regarded as one of the most influential silent films of all time. So this new remake is essentially a new Dracula movie, but it is following more specifically in regards to the variations of the original Nosferatu film.
Nosferatu = "We don't need that copyright, what is Bram Stokers estate gonna do, sue?" So, almost all copies of this movie were destroyed in like 1930, and no one *really seen it* till the 80's. Only clips existed for the longest time, till film affianados brought different reels of the flick together from hidden locations all the available prints, and someone cut a cohesive version.
