Wanna hear something ridiculous? The reason Samus herself never appeared in the show despite one of her arch enemies being the main villain of this show was because the writers "never heard of her"......wtf?!
DeathofInk How? Just... how? First of all, anyone who's even heard of Metroid knows who Samus is. Second, how do they know who Mother Brain is, who only appeared in three Metroid games (Metroid, Super Metroid and Metroid Zero Mission) but not Samus who is the MAIN PROTAGONIST OF THE GAME SERIES?!?!?!??
What is it with video games and their movie/tv show representations in the '80s and '90s? Did the creators even do their damned research? Slightly related, we had to put up with this "adults know better" mentality for at least 100 issues of the Archie Sonic comic. Those were some dark days.
In short, no they didn't. Remember, back then video games were a niche, kid's hobby. A lot of the animators weren't of the generation that played games. Not unlike now, where the kids who grew up watching Captain N, are now in the industry kicking ass.
How do the writers know about mother brain but not samus, despite the fact that you need to play as samus to get to mother brain? Good fucking question.
tyrant1384 Yes, Alessandro Juliani, who played L in Death Note, also did Kid Icarus, possibly back when he was around 14. He also played Emil Hamilton on Smallville.
I pity anyone who grew up with this show. I can understand why shows like Sonic and Adventures of Sonic may have a nostalgia fan base, but this--- show, there's just no redeeming qualities to, period. Captain N is the ultimate mockery and kick in the nuts to all Nintendo fans. It took all the cool and awesome video game franchises and raped them in the ass with a sand paper condom until they started bleeding and screamed for mercy, after which the sand paper condom just got switch out with a chainsaw condom. The animation is atrocious, the character re-designs are a joke, and the choice of voices are laughable. I remember stumbling on this show a couple years ago, when I read that Pit stared in a cartoon. I then followed a link, and I was scared for life. I then went on to look at MegaMan's design, believing it couldn't be worse than Pit's......I wanted to sit down in a corner and cry.
PikaLink91 I did grow up with this show. At first, it annoyed me but it always came on between both showings of Super Mario Bros 3 so we always had to sit through it. I had no idea what this show was trying to do at the time. But it was via this show I learned about Castlevania, Megaman, Kid Icarus, Metroid, Zelda, and Donkey Kong. This was during a time frame when these game franchises weren't yet well known. It became nostalgic after awhile, but it's still very silly.
I didn't actually see most of the games until long after the show was out of my life. I think only Mega Man was found and played. Now if I see the show today, I can actually make sense of the silly world they put together and it's mostly just ridiculous plots like what the Super Mario Bros Super Show used to do.
Well, like I said before, more power to people who grew up with the show and actually like it (although I can't fathom how such a thing can be, but then again no one can fathom why I love Sonic X, so I guess we're Square). My only real gripe with the series is the re-designs and voices.
Really. At least Pit and Simon were done (kinda) Faithfully in design to the games they were in. Mega man.... WHAT ARTWORK OR GAME SPRITE SHOWS HIM AS GREEN?!?!?
I think this is a great reason why Doug thinks cartoons now are better than they were back then. People working on today's cartoons grew up with the shitty ones back then and know what not to do. Like, oh, you know, thinking kids want clichéd tropey versions of their favorite characters instead of being as faithful to the source as possible. It was like the creators thought they knew what kids liked when they really, really didn't.
Apparently one of the writers said that the reason Samus wasn't in the show was because they never heard of her. Yes, they apparently had heard of Mother Brain and several elements from Metroid but not the game's main protagonist. ...Just let the stupidity of that sink in for a second.
On paper this was the best idea they could ever have come up with. They just didn't try hard enough and half assed it and now Captain N is like a bad word in the gaming community...that is to the people who remember it.
they have to call them princesses because that is what test well with focus groups. with her show MLP: FIM Lauren Fuast wanted to name Celestia, Queen celestia but the network wouldn't let her because younger girls liked rulers with the title princess better. I don't know why, it's not like every female character they grow up watching is named princess or something.
***** oh come on dude, can't we be friends? Friendship is magic you know (and can be turned into a giant laser to kills monster with/send them to tartarus)
***** according to what people have told me, genius, idiot, smart ***, good boy, good friend, a**hole, wise, smart, crazy, insane, strong, buff, fast, short, small, big, weird, inventive...those are the only ones that come to mind. As you can see most of them are contradictory because I behave differently around different people and everybody perceives my actions in different ways. for example, you are perceiving my actions right now as annoying, but the friends I'm showing this conversation to think I'm hilarious. Mainly because they also watch MLP. Just saying.
Boomer Jojo look i dont even watch mlp but damn you calling them cancerous is cancerous in itself. even if he is autistic whats it going to prove you dont HAVE to deal with him infact instead of making a comment which describes him as cancer why dont you do something productive and stop making fun of a fandom cause you dont enjoy it. im only leaving this comment so dont bother replying
After seeing that green thingie coming from TV and that dog who jumps into tv, I got somewhat flashback to my childhood remembering the intro to the show, I never saw the show, but I definetily remeber the intro. It was one of the coolest things I saw in my life (before it hided to the corner of my brain), maybe because that was every kids dream, getting sucked into TV and become a cartoon character yourself. Holy shit, what a nostalgic explosion.
I wonder, Why the flying fuck is Little Mac from punch out not in the show? For that matter, Samus Aran, Dr. Wily, and Count Fucking Dracula weren't on there either. What gives? When we have the characters, Grab the respective villans and heroes!
Dracula and Alucard was in the show, look it up, but you're gonna be disappointed... Maybe it was for the best the other major characters didn't appear.
My favorite episode was the paperboy episode. The one that showed Saturday morning cartoons can get away with having minorities in a heroesque role, so long as they are also exploited for every stereotype imaginable. This was also the tropish "very special episode" that was so popular. The real world important moral? Reading turns you into a zombie.
As for the whip having a mind of its own... I believe it was 'Lament of Innocence' for the PS2 that showed the Vampire Killer Whip was made by taking the soul of the first Belmont's fiancé - who had been halfway turned into a vampire - and binding it to the whip to give it the power to kill vampires...and as it was being done, she made a comment of always being with him. So, technically, the whip could have a mind of its own... ...and I'm really defending this series. What the hell is wrong with me?
Until today I had actually forgotten this show existed. I just watched some other Nostalgia Critic videos and suddenly remembered he made a review about it.
Jay Smith I think this show could do better with Samus than Other M did. Just kidding of course. Naturally they would just insert Samus character from Other M into this show, she would fit in PERFECTLY.
Toupalacy MessengerOfDreams Jay Smith Josh The Mc-Knight Samus only appeared in the comic version of it. 1.bp.blogspot.com/-6xTp5AMc7sg/Tq6nXENYlPI/AAAAAAAABF8/OFyFbS_26JY/s1600/samusisagirl.jpg Which was based on her first comic design I believe; img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140109105854/metroid/ru/images/5/5a/Mt_hero2.jpg I think they portrayed her rather good as a very kickass bounty hunter with more money than Bill Gates, but I'm not sure. I'd recommend looking them up. I'm sure Metroid Database have them.
Seasons 1 & 2 were awesome, but don't even get me started on Season 3. Ugh! My greatest memory of this cartoon is this polaroid picture of a screenshot I took off my television back in 1991 from one of the episodes "Queen Of The Apes" where Kevin is holding on to Simon's wrist after struggling with some piranhas underwater.
2:50 Wait... I thought Kid Icarus couldn't fly without the blessing of Palutena???? I watched through the entire series, and she is never brought up even once!
Yeah Because Dic made this not Nintendo So it's full of errors because Nintendo didn't make it Also DiC thinks they can fuck up Simon Belmont and get away with it Also King Hippo isn't blue And Mega Man isn't green and short. Did they even look at the characters, I doubt it I imagine they just scribbled their in game sprites
After just finishing watching this Captain N: toon series i like everything about this series doesn't have any weaknesses except the way they drew and made some of the characters especially mega man & simon belmont so i gave they series an Overall 8.3 B- Grade : Animation: 8.4/10 Captivation: 8.1 Villains: 8.4 Storylines: 8.3 Intelligent Dialog: 8.9/10 Realistic Believability: 8.0
+Jaceblue04 A princess doesn't have to marry to be crowned queen, just like a prince doesn't have to be married to be king. That is just fairytale crap...
Hold up, they MADE UP a princess for this stupid show when Nintendo had princesses like Zelda and Peach? Why the fuck would they make up a new character when they could have slipped in another character? Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they didn't, like they did in the super show, but WHY didn't they?
What I love the most out of the bad designs is how they have King Hippo as a blue beast even though they showed him as how he looks in-game in Punch-Out!!
+LightSoul ADV (LightSoul98) I'm tempted to say they did no research. Supposedly Megaman is green because the creators played Megaman on a maladjusted TV set.
+LightSoul ADV (LightSoul98) i get that is hard to adapt a character at the time only based on the video game sprite but HE IS BLUE!!!! THEY EVEN PLAYED THE GAMES!!?? IS A BLUE ROBOT KID!!!!
What did they do to Simon Belmont? I don't even do Castlevania, but I'm insulted! It's like reading the crappier fan fictions on Quotev (no offense to the fan fiction writers, at least they were trying!) This show badly needs Samus Aran to go postal on its ass with super missiles and end its suffering. Kind of glad she never ended up on the show. Otherwise we'd have pobably seen Other M twenty years early.
Captain n shoudlnt be able to pause reality.. He keeps hitting the button closest to the directional pad which is the select button. Instead some menu or something should pop up.
Anyone else notice at 13:12 Simon Belmont is reading a magazine called True Love with him on the front cover admiring himself? Egotistical is definitely the right word to describe this version of him.
It funny what he said about the guy who voice of mother brain and the plant from little shop of horror. It is the only roles he ever played in his career.
so like...why nit Mario, Link, Samus, even Donkey friggin Kong in the show? lets be honest, all the ones they actually had were B-list at best. Megaman and Simon are great, but if you wanna sell Nintendo, why not use the biggest and best??
Mario, link, and donkey kong all had crappy shows. Dont drag samus into this. Besides even the companies themselves have shown they tend to have trouble making their games with no real plot* cough sega with sonic boom cough cough nintendo already mentioned
+ilopominecrafter cough cough sonic boom is actually a good show cough cough and cough cough at least Sega can make better shows than Nintendo cough cough
the only reason why they use american knock offs was because the REAL simon and link keep fighting over who was the best hero and every one got killed in the crossfire of lasers, magic, boomerangs, stop watches and fire
A live action Captain N remake could be a hit today, on RU-vid. Or something even bigger, that doesn't only revolve around Nintendo, but around games in general. Think about it, a webshow about a guy exploring video game worlds like it's Star Trek, meeting gaming icons, facing endgame bosses and leaving towards the next game after gaining powers from the previous one, Megaman style. I can totally imagine someone like FreddieW pull this off.
The only one I saw was the Tetris episode... and I didn't mind it. I found it inventive that they made a world out of tetris blocks and an actual villian.
That bit with Kevin deciding to stay instead of go home is a classic cliché - in these scenarios the hero always ultimately resolves to 'finish the job' and help his friends defeat the bad guys instead of going back to his original life. Dunno why, it's just something these stories always do.
When I watched this with my brother as a kid, I thought it was awful how they had Mother Brain and not Samus, now that I'm older and wiser I'm glad Samus didn't experience the horrible injustice that is this show.
Palutena: And you were a guy whose head was on fire... and got punched into a river of the dead. Pit: How many times do I have to say that guy isn't me in any shape or form?!
I borrowed this show from my libary and saw a few episodes and aside from the many flaws the critic points out, it drove me nuts to constantly hear the charecter I knew as pit being called "kid icarus"
Sometimes I feel like when producers were thinking of Link's character design to the actual TLOZ series and captain N their design-pics were accidentally swapped after one very wet DiC-company party.
You know it's a shame about the whole princess thing. As I understand, Lauren Faust had wanted Princess Celestia to be QUEEN Celestia but the execs shot her down for the reasons pretty much listed here.
This is why I want there to be a remake this, change Simon Belmont to either Trevor or Richter, and make them badass not a show boat, the real megaman, Pit [from uprising], and add in Link along as well and not for one episode! And the villains would be Dracula, Bowser, and Ridley. Perhaps throw in a few minor villains for them to defeat easily perhaps. Also have Link as a mute but have a companion do the talking for him, like Navi or Midna.
I guess I see their point, but Simon could have been a good point for Captain N to measure his own greatness. Sort of a serious rival instead of the absolute JOKE he was.
