Houston, we no longer have a problem! Plan B has been a success, the old school tunnel ram topped off with the classic Holley carbs works great! As you saw in the last video, we were wrapping up the Holley 450 CFM tunnel ram carbs, and the rest of the fuel system. We got as far as we could, we ended up needing two fittings for the fuel bowls. No biggie, I called Holley, and they had what I needed, and they were in stock and ready to ship!
Fast forward a few days when the parts arrived, time to get this done. I immediately headed to Jimmy's shop and got to work putting the finishing touched on the fuel system. Very little was left to do, and it went pretty easy! After adding some 114 octane race fuel and hooking the battery pack, it was time to fire this up for the first time with the new induction.
So, how did it go? well, it fired off like a Saturn V rocket! Man, it sounded so good! We ran it through a few cycles and it performed pretty well, no leaks, no pops, no bangs! Definitely a win win for 2 Hacks Garage! Jimmy's real fine 409 small block Chevy is a very healthy engine to say the least, I was impressed how well it sounded! Today was a 95% success, we did find one minor issue, a gasket leak. Once again, dealing with vintage speed parts there is always a chance of something happening, we know this all too well. In this case, it was the gasket between the intake base and the top. It didn't quite seal right and created a vacuum leak, that was the surging you heard. No big deal, I will go back over to his shop and get it fixed ASAP!
The J&J Speed and Machine "Jumping Jack Flash" nostalgia front engine dragster is about ready to hit the dragstrip, I can't wait! This has been a really awesome journey and I have learned a lot. Hard work, staying focused on a goal, and keeping an open mind really paid off! This journey isn't over yet, much more exciting content on the way! Be there or be square!
