I never give out customer info . With a question like that I always tell them I charge by the square foot and give them my card . Then ask if they want an estimate . Neighbors are nosy and if you get into a chit chat with them you might say something that gets back to your customer and you lose an account ! All biz and no gossip !
@@xbebe I Spray fert and weed control . I'm not in the lawn mowing biz . I have a per square foot price for flat and east access lawns and up my rate per square foot for mountains and really fussy customers that call me everytime they see a weed between apps ! I charge per app !
I used to get asked that all the time when I was mowing. As far as pricing goes for me at least, sometimes even the same square footage lawn could possibly be priced differently. I take in account all other aspects that could make the job more time consuming. So yeah, I would never give a price to a random person asking, because then you have to explain yourself why it is higher, say if they have a pond, extra beds to edge, a fence/gate, etc.
Funny, you bring this up Johnny. I kinda had a bad day today. Just because of a small situation. I picked up a brand new customer last year, called a few weeks ago to confirm, didn't hear anything back... Was next to his house mowing today, and heard Yo!!Yo!!(Number one whos' Yo??) and I stopped to see what he wanted. He asked if I had time to do it today and I said no, and let him know I called a few weeks ago to put him on schedule. I told him I could come do it next week and the rest of the season and he told me No!!!! He said it's not hard to do it himself and proceeded to pick weeds. I said ok have a great day and went back to working. I thought to myself I'll give him 5 mins. before he stops, and sho nuff, not even 5 mins. he was sitting down. Now, I know they're going to call in a few weeks and want it done, and then I'm going to quote it at double for the first one and get the money up front!!! Long story short, it's from watching and learning from you guys to "Know our Worth". Hope all is well, Dirty Jersey out!!!
I get asked that alot in Tupelo,Mississippi..but i never give out any pricing to anyone for any reason..Keep up the Good Work!..keep making these videos..I am showing them to my people here, so they can learn..THANKS GUYS!
Aloha from Hawaii! Love watching your videos. People take lawn care for granted. You take pride in your job. Stay blessed. Mele Kalikimaka....Merry Christmas
I had a guy ask me that question once. I told him I was too busy and wasn't taking any new work but thanks. Come to find out later, he has his own lawn service company too. I think he was just trying to see how much I was cutting yards for in his neighborhood. Trying to be SLICK! 😂
I have had someone ask before. I generally give them a range, lawns in this are from this to this. Really it’s no big secret, most lawn service people in my area charging a similar price per cut.
Swimbait1 Thank you for responding like a normal person and not like a lot of these jerks in this video I have a hard time talking to people....I could see myself asking that question just to get an idea of how much a lawn cost .....I could never guess how much it would cost to mow a lawn Ive done it myself for the past 10 years but I always wonder how much it would cost if like my mower was broken and I could not mow for a bit .....I never have found out because I just don’t like bugging people
Never had that question as of yet. I would've handled the same way you mentioned. Tell me where you live because every yard and service I give is different as well as how often it is given. Wonder if he would've liked it if you would've asked how much money he brings home every week on a paycheck! People man.....
You got what it takes to do what you do. You have a great personality, you have fun doing work, you treat your people right and the results of your work shows that you care about what you do. Unlike your employees, when you get off work you don't get to go home a lay back. I'm sure you are taking care of the "owners" side of the business. I noticed you had to let the guy go that could only make it a half a day. You got to do what you got to do! Lawn care ain't for the lazy. If the guy wants a cool office to work in, he needs to look for an office job. Good luck with your business and God bless you.
Disclosing what another client pays is never something that should be mentioned to a stranger, by giving a quote based on their individual property is a smart move because not everyone has the exact same property as well as maintenance needs.
Tell them that every house is different. Because it's not like you're charging a huge house the same price for a small house. You got different sizes and conditions and you price accordingly
Omg i know people do that but i juat decided that im going to also. I dont even remotely look OR sound like i speak a word of Spanish so i cant wait for the occasion!
xLittleBoy- in my area , the Spanish speaking neighbors are not nosey. They stay to themselves. But if they were nosey, I would respond in Haitian Creole.😂
I'da done what you did. Pretty ballsy if you ask me. What you charge is no one's business except for you and the home owner. BTW, love your videos. I'm a one man lawn care operator and watching your vids is teaching me a lot. Keep up the good work sir.
I had a neighbor of a customer ask the customer how much I charged and the neighbor called me and asked me if I was available to do her yard . Before I could tell her I need to walk around the large corner lot she went on to say "$65 will be fine and i need to speak to you before you begin each Wednesday. I was a little irritated but 65 ×52 Ain't real bad. And she requires an hour and a half. .I'm always done in an hour and 10 minutes and she times me lol so I have to walk around 20 minutes looking like a rookie. . If it wasn't once a week I'd quit it! Never tell anyone how much another customer pays.
That’s not smart and waste of time it doesn’t matter if they want hour and half if it’s takes you hour and 10 because you are using commercial equipment then that’s just what it takes no if ands or buts
@@sonofanug she's in a neighborhood I want to be in. I got yards there and I want more.it's once a week. . Man I'm just looking for the good in it! Too late anyway, I should have spoke up back when
Bruh this lady obviously has a sexual crush on you but is too shy to come out and say it. I’d kiss her next time you see her. Then you will get all those accounts in that neighborhood.
Since you’re kind enough to ask for our opinions, I have to tell you my opinion is not based on the experience of a business owner, but an observer. The question you were asked, while a bit strange, was not at all that unusual. It’s a clumsy way to try to extract information without committing yourself. Many people think that if they invite you over to give a quote, then they are committing themselves to hire you. But the thinking is that if they just ask, then they are not committing themselves to purchase your services. You handled it just the right way in not giving the questioner an out. By the way, hang onto Q. Not only does he have a strong work ethic, but he comes across as very intelligent. Try finding that combination in young employees these days. Good luck to you in your business. Your videos are superb. As these are basically infomercials to advertise your business, you need to let your best side come through. And from what I see, your best side comes through loud and clear: intelligence, honesty, pride in your work and integrity. I plug your site to people I know and tell them to subscribe because you are truly one of a kind.
I think you handled that the way you should have. I have had several people ask me that and I handle it the same way you did. Tell them I'd be happy to come look at their property and give them a price.
To your question I’ve seen and heard story of people asking that question..then they go and tell the homeowner that they will do it for less then you .. I mow every day and come home to watch you mow ! 😂💯👍🏿👍🏿
What nice video, you got it going on, very professional and it show's in you finished work, and on the question, yes I have been ask that question at least once a day when was in that business! Good Luck On the Job Pops Smoke & Q!
As a homeowner, I have asked that same question. I notice that depending on the area, the quotes are different. Those that lived in higher property value was quoted higher, even if the yard was smaller than those with lower property value and more yard. Not all, but more than a few.
Awesome to hear you're vegetarian. I'm mainly plant based and it makes a massive difference in your work and body. Lightest I've ever been with more agility and flexibility as well. Only set back I have is mountain dew. Also love intermediate fasting. You are what you eat. Health before wealth.
Was Qs attitude and demeanor always this good, or is this something he learnt from you? I haven't found an offsider anywhere near his quality yet. And they don't last or stick around long enough to become a pro like Q.
He prob wanted to use you for your price. (Example) You would have told him 30 weekly, he would have pulled over the next guy and asked how much just to tell him to do it for 25 because he "knows" someone that will do it for 30.
Yeah..fuck those people. I have mulch jobs coming in and it's ridiculous to me how people want to talk me down 50-100 dollars because another did it for that much less. Same with mowing I had a guy with what to me is a huge lot, about .6 acres, I bid originally $85 (partially for size, partially because the lot has drainage issues) biweekly, and they wanted me to go down to 60. I told them $70, and the guy is like.."You want 70, I want 60, let's meet at 65?" That was last season, and only cut once, but now I tries to get him back on and he goes "I thought we agreed on 60?" I agreed in the end, but I'm not mowing the whole lawn. I do his neighbor's lot for $50, so maybe he just thought he should get a similar price, but..pshsh..I left a good area, not finished because he was misleading me by telling me the grass hadn't grown much,(only about 8 inches of weeds though lol) I adjust my work to the price. I don't like people that want to tell me to go back and do better work or do it a certain way and then still pay me the same cheap price.
You did the right thing ……by telling him why you ask!this happen to me,but this guy wanted his yard cut and just wanted to know how much do I charge!you can’t really be sure!i charge 35 an hour!!
All the time! i make counter tops and people are always asking how much they are. The price changes dramatically depending on material, edge detail and anything custom or unusual and square footage.
Regarding the inquiry on pricing. Simple as address look on Zillow get the square footage and give the minimum price based on square footage of property information on the website and of course state upon actual onsite to offer a actual onsite review quote for specfic property
Oh yes! I've had many people ask me this question many times.. my only reply is that it depends on the work that needs to be done, I will inspect the property and then give my quote. Some people try to bargain a hard days work, saying the previous guy charged me this much... that is really discouraging
It was awesome to hear another vegetarian in the industry. Done properly, it helps you achieve amazing energy and stamina. Keep up the amazing work man.
I informed my lawn care guy on the first day that I am a very private person I don't speak to any of my neighbors and that they shouldn't be asking you any questions concerning me, I would even go as far as changing services if my guy decided to cut their grass just too close for my comfort... Me personally I would never go towards any of my neighbors homes to asked their contractors nothing I'll just hire my own
Me and my family also do landscaping here down in Florida ( West Palm beach) and last Friday the temperature Increased Pasted 100 Degrees and let me tell you it felt like hell on Earth .
Happens all the time.... I just let my customers know my starting price... I never do blind quotes...Ask for there address & go from there.... JL Lawn Care Service llc
He probably just wanted to know what the going rate was. Honestly it's good to know what's being charged so you dont wind up being screwed on a price to mow your own lawn. I'm more shocked your shocked than I am by the guys question.
Yeah that happens all the time up here in Ohio you did the right thing never tell tell him you'll come to their house and give them a quote very well played have a good day
That's great to see u using exmark.thats what I started with up here in NJ. First one was a 52 turf tracer.then 60 Lazer z. then 60 turf tracer .and last was 48 Lazer hp.all with catchers. That's awesome you are vegetarian. God Bless you and your crew.
It's like this. Depends on the neighborhood. In Nigeria where I come from, I happen to have a house in the more upscale areas of town, and another one that is more suburban and closer to my farm. So depending on when I have work to do on my farm, I stay on the suburban side. Now people in gated neighborhoods and posh areas make very bad neighbors. They keep to themselves and most times, I have to go out of my way to greet them or they would just walk on by. Now the same people would approach my helper or personal assistant asking them questions about things they could have asked me directly. But because they are just too uppity, they cannot. This is the situation you had with that fellow coming to ask questions he could have asked his neighbor directly. In contrast, people who live in suburban areas are more down-to-earth and can relate with each other more directly. I remember when I stayed abroad for a while and I lived among Caucasians as the only black dude. One time my landlord came around and after we talked and he was leaving, I overheard an elderly neighbor of mine (Caucasian) asking him questions about where I was from and stuff like that. Inside me, I was like...lady, your kitchen door is just 100 feet away from me. Why not ask me instead?
mine are in plant beds also lots of rain in wa St also run off with irrigation will get run off that sits in the edge of the plant bed along the turf not flat here most plant beds are bermed and slopped towards turf just wanted to call on your knowledge with the product
That’s all you eat !?? Man how do you make it through out the day !?? Without fainting... I have to be munching every hour and then lunch time I eat a big meal
Yea it happened a few times and I just tell em I’m sorry sir/mam that information is private but I would be happy to give you a quote after I’m done here.
I get these questions all the time usually more respectfully like “how much do you charge for a yard like this” I just tell them I don’t know they would have to call the office for a quote and give them a card
The Gonzales Family 909 it’s not over thinking it, since were making assumptions... assume the nosey guy asked his client first and the client basically told him it’s non of your business. Then the nosey dude over steps his boundaries thinking he’s owed to know the price and asks his lawn care personnel. He’s not over thinking it in reality it’s non of his damn business what he gets paid from one property to the next. All that matters is what he would charge him on HIS property.
It happens all the time for me. I had random people last year just stopping in that happened to be driving by and ask me about prices. (I only do if for relatives and close friends since I’m still so young) so I just tell them I am not accepting any new lawn care customer at the moment
Ugh!! Im so sick of nosy people. Especially lately, they are coming outta nowhere. Too much time on their hands i guess. And now there have been fence peepers as well! You guys do good work and I like your setup. Those mowers look FUN too!
I get asked that a lot. Ok I don't like to bid any job blind. Because the terrain of the lawns/ properties vary. I've done that before when I first started my business and ended up doing more work than what I initially charged the customer for.
