A nice sunny warm day railfanning at Metropark and New Brunswick went sour as Amtrak experiences downed wires in the Jersey Meadows. Trains came to a halt in New Brunswick as the line was closed between Metropark and NYC. By 8:30 PM the line was still closed and I had to resort to alternate transportation back to New York City. We enjoy a good mix of NJT and Amtrak trains as well as bad public address pronunciations prior to the deterioration of service. As a result, I didn’t have dinner until 11 PM at home when I had planned to have dinner in the city, but I was trying to beat the Rangers crowd back home.

What a difficult day for railfanning! A good mix of Amtrak and NJ transit trains though. Sorry it turned sour and you experienced a very late arrival home. Thanks Tim
@rodeliot
Another great video. Glad you made it home.

The LIRR announcer is worlds better than the NJ Transit one. She actually announces names properly!

Aside from your personal inconvenience in "taking the bus" home, I truly enjoyed the documented "chaos" of Northeast Railroading at its least finest! This was a joy to watch & thank you for sharing. This is Peter; out!

I was actually coming in to Penn station after the Hudson rail excursion and saw a whole crowd waiting for Nj Transit. Didn’t know what happened until seeing your video makes a whole lot more sense to why there was so many people. Great video and some awesome catches.

It was a rough day for sure. But hey, I got a rare opportunity to use the Newark Light Rail as I abandoned Newark Penn Station where there were no trains in favor of catching the #59 bus over by the Newark Museum. That bus hits some of the same spots as the Raritan Valley Line as it makes a long, 23-mile journey to Dunellen (which when you think about it is very far for a local bus to run, stopping every couple blocks). It didn't actually take as long as I thought it would, at least to get as far as I needed to go, but there were people on the bus with me who were going at least to Dunellen and even beyond, and I really felt for them. And then I got home just in time to watch a fairly depressing hockey game, which had me wondering how upset I would be if I had gone to the game upstairs at MSG, then wanted to go downstairs to Penn Station to get home and forget about the game, only to have no trains running.
@Will.Seader
Thank you for keeping the camera rolling even when the trains started to slow down. Most importantly, glad you were able to get home safe! I heard there were about 500 people waiting for Uber/lyft at Newark Penn and many commuters were stuck in NYC overnight. Crazy crazy evening for sure!
@AJTLfilms
I was on 85 from NY to Richmond that day and i’m so happy i just missed the mess that was caused by the power issues. I was sitting on the left side of the train so I didn’t see you.
@ShluffyMonster
I was railfanning yesterday afternoon at Rahway. Unfortunately, or so I thought at the time, I had to head back home earlier than planned - about three hours earlier. I left rahway near four instead of around seven. Turns out my equipment being annoying was a blessing in disguise.
@bornjamerican52
I felt bad for everyone that was stuck out in Jersey and NY trying to I get home or their destination . Yesterday was REALLY BAD! Good morning brother from bklyn ny 😊
@littlestevey4172
At least you were able to get some weird track placements and strange stack ups on the line... Still good action
@DanknDerpyGamer
The squealing of Amfleet wheels as they brake is so iconic. It's gonna feel so weird not hearing them anymore when the Amfleet I and II cars are eventually retired.

Love that station. I live about the same distance from S.Amboy and Metropark, but used Metropark for the year I worked in Jersey City. Usually caught 3708 going in and either 3721 or 3723 (which was almost always Arrows) coming back from Newark. Parking there is pretty good and I always found the NJT crews to be mostly very friendly and professional. And nice seeing Amtrak ACS-64 608. I think have the HO scale model of that.
@Westlander857
I just returned from a trip back east that had me riding all up and down the NEC for a week. This made me glad I left when I did. Good on you for sticking it out and keeping the camera rolling. Hopefully with new projects like the Portal Bridge and Hudson River Tunnel, things like this will happen less often in the future.
@njtrailfan4106
Yeah there was the down wires which I heard was really bad good that you made it home.
