Dealing with the general public selling a vehicle these days sounds like not a ton of fun. I'd trade it in.
@aaronbritt2025
@aaronbritt2025 8 месяцев назад
Not me. I'd never trade it in. An F450 is easily worth $10K TO $15K more as a private seller than as a trade in. I've sold dozens of vehicles private party. I've not had to deal with idiot low ballers because I don't use the free ads like Marketplace or CL. Paid ads tend to bring in real buyers. JD says it has an $80k trade in value, but I'd want to see that in writing. I doubt the dealer will actually pay $80k, unless that includes the tax credit. I'm a dealer and I calculated a trade in of about $70k.

I have a 2020 Platinum F350 SRW - had to replace an LED taillight - cost was over $1400 at the end of the day. The plastic housing had cracked exposing it to rain. Congrats on your upcoming truck build! These trucks really hold their value these days too - glad your current truck is worth so much - that makes this a no-brainer.

As a super duty owner, I still think the carpet delete is still one of the best “options” you can spec into a truck. I love having a high trim level F350, but no carpet to get filthy from kids,dogs,camping, etc. I’m excited to see your new rig arrive.

I did the same thing over the years only with Cummins Ram trucks. Traded up every few years to get the latest and greatest. Had a 98 1/2 with the 24 valve 47RE trans, an 05 with 5.9 and 48RE transmission, an 08 with the 6.7 and 68RFE trans, and a 14 with the 6.7 and Aisin trans. New stuff is nice !!

Congratulations 🎉. It’s a beautiful truck. I would say you should start your build over and let the other truck go as is. I’ve recently been down this road. One thing is for the air compressor and stuff your getting a brand new truck why would you want to put “used” stuff on the new truck. Your better off trading it in it’s easy and a guaranteed done deal and you can drive it right til the end. Vs if you wanted that money up front for the new one. Another plus with starting the new build is the new products you could now choose and feature.

Congrats!! I'm a RAM guy but the F450 is in it's own class. You'd be crazy not to trade it in especially post the covid mess. My 18 Ram 2500 fully loaded CTD Laramie Mega Cab is worth more than what I paid for it new in 2018. You bet when the right circumstance comes up it will get "refreshed" even though I love my truck immensely.

I took delivery of a '23 F250 SRW Lariat in May of this year and really enjoy it. The 6.7HO coupled to the 10 speed transmission is the towing dream team. And when you factor in all the ways the vehicle systems are interconnected, it makes towing even more fun. I traded my Rapid Red '21 F250 Lariat with the diesel and 10 speed and got $62,000...making the $87,500 price tag somewhat more palatable. I know I'm lying to myself but it helps me not cry when writing the check. I'm a carpet delete guy that loves to drive so I opt for fewer "driving aids" so I don't constantly have something dinging and/or vibrating. My "Lux" package Bronco is a serious case-in-point of too much junk...I recommend that others order the Mid package. As far as cool options are concerned, the gooseneck/5th wheel prep kit is the best buy. Interestingly, the 5 plastic trim rings that fill the gaps between the bed floor and hitch components are not installed from the factory...so warm them up and be patient...they fit but you have to nearly turn them inside out. You're gonna LOVE the retractable bed sidesteps...I'm 59 and "stocky" so it makes accessing the forward corners of the bed much easier and safer... I'll look forward to seeing the new rig early next year.

I still find it crazy that trucks and SUV's from the Big 3 can now be easily spec'ed to cost over $100k. It doesn't seem that long ago when TFL made a big deal over the first one to be capable of that (I think it actually might have been an F-series truck or the Raptor). Though I can also remember a time when you could buy a nice house for $100k, and I'm only in my early 30's.
@Scout819
@Scout819 8 месяцев назад
You're right- if I recall it was in 2019 or so- whenever Ford first released the Limited trim for the superduty. F450 limited was the first truck from the big 3 to hit $100K

Not many people can afford 100,000 dollar truck. You make it sound like it's easy to buy a new truck. Your 2017 F450 isn't worth 80,00 .You're living in a dream world. The common working man is out of the truck market.

I am surprised you didn't option in the PTO output for the transmission. You can add some extremely nice size generators to the underside of the truck with it. I have seen F450's with up to 60KW units. Would be nice to have in emergency times. I am going to add one when I get a new truck for sure. Having the ability to have mobile 60KW unit that is attached and be able to use at any point is great. Keep up the good work sir!

@@gailmail1 it’s not the most efficient having to high idle the truck but during emergencies it doesn’t matter much. Also with larger fuel tanks or auxiliary tanks the run time could be quite long. With JD on the coast it could come in handy. 👍

Keep your replacement Alcoa wheels and centramatic wheels. Keeping the bumpers would be nice but figure different shape so may not be compatible. Your build is exactly what I would do minus the color but with the supplemental heating. I am actually contemplating what your doing as I have a 2022 F450 Lariat. I am going to purchase a set of six Alcoa high polish wheels to allow for rotation of all six wheels. I want to thank you for your content and honesty related to the 450 and the 350. I plan on purchasing a fifth wheel and seeing our GREAT NATION. Your view and information as well as opinion has allowed me to make a educated decision related to my plans. THANK YOU and keep up your GREAT content. Good health and safety to you and your family.

Outstanding, enjoy the Platinum! Beautiful and feature packed! Red was a close 2nd, went with Carbon Grey. I’d keep the few things that have higher replacement value than you’d recover resale or let go with trade-in and easy to remove. Exp: Full set of Centramatic Balance Discs… easy $500-600 saved on next Truck. If same fit… tool box,etc but that may be enough off, not worth the time. Removing compressor & bags, maybe.

Thats kinda what I fell into as well, I ordered a 2023 in October of 22, and it was never going to get built. So I ordered a 2024 , and thought the same thing, I don't want a 2023 at the end of 23. Now we all wait , due to the strike and product shortage I can only hope to have ours built by Jan or Feb of 2024. We ordered a 350 Platinum and added all the little things so it was road ready when it came, I guess we'll see if that slows it down.

I got a 2023 f250 lariat just a few months ago with the Carmel interior. I love it! Besides me thinking it looks better than the black, you can notice a huge difference during the summer time with how hot it gets inside. Btw, for the price point I was trying to stay in, I chose the 2023 model gasser over a used diesel because of the changes in suspension. It’s a much smoother ride.

I felt blessed to find a leftover 2022 dually that needed to be sold before they delivered the 2023s. I did ok on the sale, but I needed the truck so what are you going to do. I did this just last February, while I was in .... Texas! I called my local dealer here in Northeast Ohio about ordering a '23. He told me then (Jan/Feb) that I might have to wait till 2024. When he asked me why, I told him unsold '22 duallys were showing up everywhere around me in near Dallas/Ft. Worth area. His exact words to me were, "I haven't been able to get a dually for 2 years. If I were you ....". I will say, I loved my old Ruby Red truck. But I don't care for the rapid red. I found a Tri-White Lariat. I wanted the LED lights, but you get what you get when Ford really restricted LED lights that year. Enjoy your new ride!

This new truck will l be good for you and your channel. Leave all your upgrades and gadgets you had installed on your 2017. I'm sure there are new goodies out there for you to review and install on this new truck. My 2017 RAM 3500 Limited is paid off as well, but I don't think I'll be upgrading as I have just turned 200K miles on it, mostly highway. I maintain it very well and it still runs and functions like the day I bought it. I opted for the 3.42 rear gears which yield an average of 23mpg on the highway, while not towing. I love the H/O Cummins/Aisin package. My only upgrades have been Bilstein shocks and aftermarket 5th wheel prep, as RAM would not include it with the Ram Boxes.

JD, I would trade the truck in. Selling a vehicle to the public is a pain. I would take the air compressor and airbags off of your old truck, but leave everything else. I had to deal with a similar situation when I traded in my old Ram 3500 in on my new 3500. I went from a loaded 2018 Laramie to a 2022 loaded Limited Longhorn. The dealership gave me what I paid for my old truck and they had the new truck below MSRP. Who wouldn't buy the new truck? I can't wait to see your new truck on your channel.

I would check and see if the add on items can be put on your new F450. I agree that it makes sense to trade in based on what your 2017 is worth. Did the dealer put something in writing with regards to what they will give you for your 2017? You will need to get quite a bit more for your truck to offset the taxes due if you sell it out right. I also love that interior with the seats. It’s about time that this is available in the Platinum. Hopefully your build will still make your February timeframe. Can’t wait to see the new one.

I believethe axle ratio is 4:30 for the F450. I've looked at them for a long time. Actually ride smoother than any of the Big 3. Also the turning radius cor a full size dually pickup is phenomenal. The way Ford does their packages, if you buy a trim and then option it up with every option included in the next trim level, it's always cheaper to buy the next trim. Curious why you opted for the FX4? Doesn't it decrease payload/towing? The nice thing about opting for the Ford camera is it displays on the built in screen, instead of requiring an extra screen placed on the dash or windshield. Regarding the Pro Power... If they ever come out with a hybrid SD, they'll up the wattage. I think a hybrid SD would be awesome. Imaging normally having 1200 Lb ft of torque to the rear wheels with an additional 800 Lb ft from an electric motor up front. They'd have to beef up the frame even more to maintain the 5k Lb. payload with the additional weight, but it's doable. They'd offset some of the weight getting rid of the transfer case, front axle and driveshaft.

Good luck. I hope you really enjoy it. As far as the accessories, how much time and labor is involved in removing them? Are they in good enough condition to be safe and reliable in the new truck? Are there upgraded replacement accessories that would be better for you in the new truck?

Congrats on the new truck JD, looks great. I was in a simular situation, have a '19 F-350 King Ranch, wanted to order another one, but the lack of the LED lights turned me off so went with a '24 Platinum, ordered it back in August, not expecting it until Jan-Feb (if then). For what it's worth there is a YT channel, Long McArthur Ford out of Salina, KS & they do weekly updates on the production schedule of all the Ford models and constraints, I've found it helpful to get a feel of how the production process moves along. Congrats again on your new truck, I'm sure you will love it!

You could order high trim 2023 F450s on October 27 2022, but they were not going to build them until Job 2. By January 2023 the order banks for the Platinum, and Limited trims and the F450 was closed.

I would love to see you do a video on how to build a F250 for a Airstream 27 . We are currently considering a F250 and an Airstream. Thank you for all this information.

It will be really interested to see how quickly you get the truck. I’ve been waiting for my 2023 F350 since Nov 2022. I just had to resubmit for a 2024 F350. I’m in California so I’m not sure if I’ll ever get it. I might have to go to Texas and order it from there. 😂

I just ordered a f450 King Ranch on December 20th, and they said you can expect it to come September 2024. I am upgrading from a Sierra 2500 at 4 2021.

I’d trade it in but there are folks that are hard looking. I have a ‘19 F450 Lariat and I’ve had dealers in FL offer me $80k for it. Had a resort site owner offer me $100k. But, he would not take advantage of me not having a truck to yank my 5th wheel around. Crazy market! Leave it all on there. Start fresh. Part of the fun is doing it all over again.

You make reference to the sales tax issue in benefit of trade in vs selling outright. I know that you are in Texas and I’m in Arkansas but here in Arkansas you can retain the tax benefit by selling directly to another owner. To do so you only have to have the new owner sign an affidavit that he purchased the vehicle. You then turn this in to the department of revenue when licensing the new vehicle. The forms are available through the revenue department or online. You might want to check to see if Texas allows this.

Crazy, I ordered the exact same build, except color back on July 18th. I'm $810 lower than yours. Good luck on the resale of your current unit. I'm trading in a 2023 F350 Dully, for same reason.

The only 'content' reporting I'm interested in as a potential super-duty buyer are the essentials such as suspension, structural chassis, transmission, type/brand of dampers, AC charge chemistry, convenience of oil changes and trans fluid changes, ride vs cargo & towing capacity, engine type and longevity, ease and procedures of maintenance of all kinds, steering geometry and construction, frame stiffness, wiring and cabling quality and type, free block heater, salt and rust-proofing, bucket seat orthopedics and fit, et cetera. I don't give a rats dam about cosmetic and pseudo-luxury trim levels, or related electronics. I want to see a half hour of camera work under the truck, and in the engine bay, and rocker panels and pillars before anything else. And an episode covering selection and installation of an hydraulic pump into the PTO, and potential hydraulic tools and appliances such as rams and lifts and winches would be great.

Glad you are able to finally get your truck…. But I cannot afford these models anymore, so will live vicariously thru you I guess… these units are pretty much out of the average persons affordability scale lately…. Good luck and best wishes on your new ride…

Trade-in value really made the deal. As far as accessories, sounds like you need to do some research to see what will and wont transfer over. That's gonna make your decisions a lot easier. Not sure if your monitor, my monitor, your camera calibrations but that truck comes out looking a lot more orange on the screen than your present one. A lot of youtubers/reviewers wont talk about money, thanks for showing that part of it.

Nice truck, what you pay after trade in isn’t bad considering current inflationary prices. As for swapping aftermarket components, take a look at those components on the 2016 and look hard at the 2024. If you can then that’ll save you a buck you can use elsewhere on the new truck or the travel trailer. Why not.?

I always order my trucks, never take one off the lot. My dealer told me that retail customer order builds take precedence over dealer inventory orders so that is probably what the order code is.

We went with the RAM 3500 Longhorn Limited. Just overall a better truck for towing a 5th wheel. Interior was better and the ride was way better while unloaded.

Two things… Maybe it isn’t worth it for you, but I declined the factory bedliner because I found a local place that used the same material as Ford for 2/3rds the cost of the factory option. And maybe it’s not an issue anymore, but Ford was having trouble sourcing 5th wheel prep packages and it was delaying builds. With the aluminum body (and especially if you do it before you have a bedliner sprayed in) drilling into the bed to add it aftermarket can give you better options with no loss or risk.

On the priority codes, the lower the number the better. Only Ford corporate can lower the number below 10, 19 is the standard retail order number from the dealerships. Might be able to get them to put it at 11 and it should be pushed to the front of the line over other orders, but the issue is that it's a F-450 Platinum and very few have been built due to the shortages they have been having.

Impressive, your trade in value got me looking… outstanding! Using Kelly & NADA 2017 King fully decked, excellent condition avg $68k for IA. Must be more value down in FL, wonderful for your Trade; are they still offering higher than norm Used Values. Would like to see that in IA.

Yes the used car market is really bad. It’s partly why I’ve not bought another vehicle. I’ve gone without a car now for 3.5 years. I’d love to get another vehicle but with the higher prices it just doesn’t make sense. Of course yes myself personally there is a separate issue I’m building a beach house and if you’ve been down that path yourself you know it a money pit. But yes it’s a worthwhile money pit but buying a car during isn’t a good idea. So I’ll wait. But great on you JD. Do the trade in it’s the best option for your situation. And yes review what add ons you did that would make sense for you to remove.

If you trade it in, definitely pull all the aftermarket stuff off. You won't get anything for it. If you sell it private party, leave it all on. That could actually add a decent value for someone who's seen all the cool accessories you've added and wants a turn-key rig. I'm considering selling my Suburban and upgrading to an F-350 SRW in the next year or so.
