That makes more sense.

Honestly, just hoping I can find a Neo-Vintage early 90s DateJust through the CPO program. There are tons of DJs without box and papers floating around and in this instance, I think the CPO program could seal the deal for me and my long lust for a classic DateJust.

Austin, I'm having a beer in the local pub, and thoroughly enjoying your content.

Excellent setting - I love pubs and pints. I, myself, had a 500ml can of Kirin Ichiban Shibori, so at least I'm getting the serving size right!

This will make going into an AD much more appealing. Who knows what kind of military or historical watches could be found!

Well, the new generation Rolexes have a 5-year warranty and recommended service intervals of 10 years, right? The idea that a 3-year old watch (with 2 years of the original warranty, and 7 years to go until service) would get given the complete treatment always seemed counter-intuitive to me. It needs to be authenticated and checked for timekeeping, but I guess that all.

It’s likely that many of the watches going into the CPO program will be Rolexes own watches which have been recycled from the ADs “for exhibition only” cases all over the world. The service requirements will be negligible as these pieces have never been "sold" or even previously worn other than by hundreds of people in the AD stores. This gives Rolex total control over both the retail and secondary market. A second source of supply will be owners who bought retail and want to trade in a watch for another piece. Every time a piece is seen by the AD it will be verified against the register to ensure its provenance. Genius.

Hi Austin, hope you are well and safe. I am heading over to Tokyo and other parts of Japan in March 2023. Am hoping to do some Rolex shopping (probably just 1 Rolex 😅). Could you advise me on where would be the best place(s) to look for Rolex? Many thanks.

This just really screams money grab. The ad is going to just pay for the tags. Their meaning is diminished

So….why buy pre owed, any pond shop will have the same thing and as you say it can be serviced at a different time by Rolex.

@@watchsymposium …….I commented on that video…..it’s all total 🤘🤘…..only a sucker will buy POC. You should be siding with people that need to hear it’s a farce if you want to maintain you’re credibility you know these A.D are ripping off watch owners. Get you’re shit together!

I'm not on any "side". There's no dilemma here, just another option at ADs. That said, are you saying there is no advantage whatsoever in going for a CPO piece?
@ccsheday
@ccsheday Год назад
Austin you might clarify that the watches in the CPO program must be 3 years old or older. So the Explorer II in your previous video would be very problematic for the AD as it is only 4 months old. Therefore it couldn't enter the CPO program for 2 years and 8 months. Which is why the story on your previous video seems fishy!
@watchsymposium
@watchsymposium Год назад
I'm not sure whether the AD I talk about in that video is even part of the CPO program. Even so, they wouldn't be able to sell the Ex.2 through the CPO program because it's not 3 years old. I assume they would sell the watch outside the program. I'm just illustrating the kind of deal you might get if you do sell or trade your 3 year old piece to an AD that wants to sell it via the CPO program.

In other words, no different than any grey dealer but still more expensive than a grey dealer would charge. I wonder how many of these CPO watches will be one owner watches (a proper second hand watch). That’s a watch sold to the AD by the guy that bought it new from an AD. Will the used Daytona at Bucherer go though as many hands as a grey market Daytona might? These popular grey market watches even cross international borders (so strictly speaking they’re third, fourth, fifth, etc …-hand watches). I guess a guy could have moved. Will ADs card they person selling that watch to them? The Rolex database tracks the name of the first customer and where the watch was sold, even if it’s been over 20 years. They don’t card you the first time (except for the credit card and the registration process). What about that CPO time?

@watchsymposium Год назад
The difference will be the safety, authentication, official Rolex documents, and AD buying experience. I'm sure it'll appeal to some. Anyway, to answer your question, it's my understanding that it's completely up to the AD how and where they find and buy the watches. They just have to be willing, upon owning it, to have a Rolex watchmaker give it the green light.

@@watchsymposium I’m thinking Rolex they’ve been stock piling the watches over the last three year’s all along. Only to later be released for more the offered at retail because of the so called waiting list bullshit and so called shortage’s. There’s no shortage only the dilemma they’ve lead people to believe. It’s fraudulent to build reason for higher prices.

The selling point is going to be the safety and authentication. And to an extent, the highbrow buying experience.

Will they polish if they think it needs a polish?
@watchsymposium
@watchsymposium Год назад
From what I gather, only if it needs a polish. But I wouldn't be surprised if they want these looking minty, and will polish out any visible wear. (But I'm sure they'll be 3 year old safe-queens that turn up and won't need it.)
