They should do non-hommages more often- they clearly know how to make a decent watch!
@watch_a_mod354
@watch_a_mod354 2 года назад
It just doesnt sell that well.... With each hommage they can lure in NEW customers while satisfying the rolex addicted old customers with yet another model for the watch box. The big problem would be to pull off a design that would be more lovde than a hommage .thats not an easy task. Imagine you can ruin your buisness with just one really bad own design .You might just stick to the hommages after all
@EEE_MMM
@EEE_MMM 2 года назад
@@watch_a_mod354 I understand that. However, I know for sure that I'm not the only one who downright refuses to wear homages (aka carbon copies) and while we may be a minority I'm pretty certain that they'll lure in another group of potential clients who wouldn't be caught dead wearing a Rolex clone.

This watch, and variants of it, have been in existence for years. There is definitely a reason why they keep selling it but also why they continue to make homages. I think they’ve done what is trending by the market while putting their DNA in every watch

The Ocean 39 GMT Premium also follows the same path. Case style, very Rolex. Differences are the hands, date window at 6, no cyclops, and a display back. An absolute bargain if you can find one. The Batman colourway that I own appears to have disappeared now, and has been replaced by green on green.

I own that watch for a few years, I love it really, it's one of my most worn watch. After a few years, a few very faint marks on the flat of the clasp and a couple invisible ones here and there. I don't know what you're going on about the clasp tho, it's perfect. It has eased off just enough really. Sure I would MUCH prefer one in the style of Zelos with a quick adjustment, but otherwise this watch is just great.

Think steinhart havr proved you don’t have to spend stupid money to get a quality watch as the ocean one will do anything the submariner will and pound for pound you get more for your money with the steinhart. Personally if I was spending Rolex money it wouldn’t be on a Rolex there are much better brands out there for that kind money. Also people who buy steinhart tend to of thought there purchase out where so many people who wear Rolex’s haven’t got a clue about what there wearing I have come across these people.

Huge fan of the channel here, I have the gmt version for five years now and it’s a solid watch, no problems with the clasp and it shouldn’t be a problem because contrary to what the majority o people think titanium is harder and stronger than stainless steel, the “scratches” you see on a titanium watch the majority are on the oxide film that titanium develops to protect it. Just rubbing it with a pencil eraser ✏️ you got rid of it. As I said I have one for five years now and it’s an amazing watch for the money!

@@JustOneMoreWatch Steinhart has a wide range of watches that has nothing to do with Rolex designs. Pilot watches, marine watches, military watches, ladies watches, chronographs etc. True, they have many Rolex homages, but far more of their own designs. This particular watch has no elements from Rolex. Everything is different. Dial, hands, case, case material, fonts. Rolex did not 'invent' a black unidirectional bezel for diving. BlancPain did that.

I own a Steinhart Ocean One Black Ceramic that I love, but have for years been eyeing this one. I LOVE the look of this and think it's almost the perfect watch. The only thing I'd prefer is a stainless steel version (and have emailed Steinhart several times stating my desire. So far to no avail). I personally am not a fan of Titanium. I think it feels too light and therefor cheap (to me) and don't like how susceptible it is to scratching. I don't mind (dare I say, even prefer) a heavy watch. If Steinhart ever release this in a SS version I'll buy it that day! Thanks for another great review Jodi!

I think this one's discontinued. Along with the similarly styled 39mm stainless steel Batman-GMT they used to have. Only model left is the 42mm Ti GMT with the same handset and basic look. I still wish I could loan you my 39mm OVM ... would love to see you review that thing. Alas... postage from Germany to Australia and back would probably exceed the value of the watch .. :D Glad to see Jody warming up to the brand - although I do completely agree about the case-shape for us guys with smaller wrists than Jody's. I have a 17 cm one (6.7in) and none of the 42mm versions I've owned or tried really looked right on me. The 39mm still has that insanely flat case-profile, but with the smaller size it doesn't really matter all that much. The 39 O1s probably don't sit as snugly on wrist as more contoured watches of the same size, but they're perfectly comfortable to wear.

I love homage watches. Make a video about this compelling argument that I am hearing more often now, that there are some homage watches that are better than the watches they are homaging! I have two of those homage watches that homage watches that are hard to obtain (if you can get at all) and very expensive. I own the Steinhart OneOcean OVM (One vintage Military) Diver watch that homages the vintage 70's Rolex MilSub 5517 used by the UK Special Service Naval Forces (I inherited one by my step-dad) and I got to say that the Seinhart is MUCH BETTER ! It has double AR Sapphire crystal, better 28,800 VPH/ 4HZ movement, 300 water resistance, etc. while the MilSub is way too expensive (upwards of $200K) for a watch with an old Rolex Caliber 1520 at 19,800bph / 2.75 HZ, Acrylic (Domed) crystal with Tritium Luminous Hour Markers, Circled ‘T’ on Lower Half (which doesn't lume at all now), 200 Meters / 660 Feet Water Resistance, Bidirectional Timing w/ Aluminum Insert, which is NOT good for diving! Also I own a Addiesdive watch Homaging a vintage Seiko Capitan Willard, and again, it has characteristics of an old technology, outdated, and very expensive.

The Titanium clasp is perfectly secure. It just feels a little lightweight because it is made from Titanium, but it is just as robust as a steel clasp. Let’s face it, the spring pins will break long before the clasp or the bracelet, as they are designed to do.

Would love one of these but only if they made it slimmer, lighter and about 15% smaller in size (I have a 1980's TAG Heuer 1000 and that's 37-38 across the bezel and for me the perfect size. I just received mine 5 days before this video was released. Loving it so far. Agree the bezel insert should be matte in finish. I would have rather purchased the GMT version but it seems to be out of production, and a one direction bezel on a GMT is unforgivable for me. I really love the finish and the handset on these. The weight is noticeably lighter than a steel watch (I have the Ocean Vintage Military in 42mm) but the Ti version still feels substantial. Thanks for reviewing this one.

Nice watch , no doubt about that. The 42 (not sure whether Gnomon has a 39mm) is quite long. Despite the female end links, needs a min 7.25". I heard their titanium is quite sensitive/soft and prone to scratches/marks. Personally I see Steinhart Ocean One quite different from Sub. Very different case geometry, very different crown guards and crown. The l2l is way different as well. Unless we are talking the first Subs, nothing is at 39mm and definitely there ain't no sub or sea dweller at 42. Quite well builds, reliable mechanisms, affordable pricing and prompt customer service. Why not, a must imo for every watch enthousiast. Edit: I agree 100% for the clasp, not just for the 500 but for all Ocean One that have a 300m rating.

This is the best looking watch currently available on the Steinhart website. The wide hands make the watch easier to read and they have a much stronger presence than the typical skinny hands on most watches. Why aren't more watches designed this way? I also prefer the look of titanium watches (as well as bead blasted stainless steel) vs. polished stainless, which always looks cheap to me.

It may not be as much of a direct copy as other Steinhart watches, but calling this an original design is a real stretch.
