I'm always glad when the house you are spotlighting is still standing.

What a relief to get to the end of this video to discover that his third house not only didn't burn down, but is still standing today!

I really love the sitting room and library. They both look like you could curl up with a book and a brandy and be comfy for hours.

What a lovely classic, elegant house! Not overdone and quite livable. I'm so glad it's still standing. I so enjoy the video tours of these grand houses.

Third times the charm. I like this third one. Simple and elegant. A hint of class. 😊

Enjoyed the video, because of age, I know I can't travel there, yet I appreciate being able to see these mansions.

Love that close-up photograph of the grand portico of the Long Island country house; very lovely inside. Ironic how both houses were lost to a fire and within just a few years. The grounds at Still House and the interior, just beautiful. Wow, that two-story library. Thanks, Ken.

It's surprising how many of these houses don't last for very many years! Love the interior photos of all three homes. Thanks for sharing!

I loved the stair hall at 3:42 and dining room murals. The portrait of the lady with her dog in the stairwell was most interesting. Thanks Ken!

Thank God I'm a country boy. I've been very fortunate having had a career that offered opportunity and access to many significant people, although I was never one of them. Well, I have to give Cravath credit for not giving up on what he wants. He absolutely had some beautiful homes, but not showy as if he just wanted to impress others.

Surprising amount of daylight for a building that owes much to classicism. Perhaps this is what helps it to feel more relaxed. There are also some interesting contrasts in scale going on at the entrance, a kind of studied relaxation.

Did bad electrical wiring destroy the two previous houses? I’m happy to see the last one still stands.

According to one of the newspaper clippings I found it was “bad insulation.” There were no more details to clarify exactly what that meant.

One has to consider rodents chewing on the (then modern) know & tube wiring.

@@ThisHouse - 'bad insulation' at the time often was a reference to the wiring. Wires used in most circuits at the time were insulated with paper and covered with a flammable woven cotton cover that was not flame resistant. Also, housing codes governing safe and sound amperage, voltage and circuitry had yet to be developed in the early days of electricity. It's rather ironic that the legal champion of the AC eletrical standard lost TWO magnificent homes to what were very likely electrical fires.

The first house doesn’t seem to have a porte-cochere at all! You have to be able to drive underneath a porte-cochere! The close up just shows 2 columns and a grand entrance 1:49

The photo had to be cropped to fit. If you search google images for Veraton you will find that I’m absolutely showing a port cochere.
