The reason it kept flaring up is because when you would lift it, more oxygen was introduced. the roll off dumpster idea is a valid idea. Smother the fire! lol. nice job bro!
Glad everyone was ok , as an ex volunteer firefighter , I saw cars go up and stay flaring up even though we had water on it , awesome job to everyone and amazing speed to put the car out .
@@CowboyCarCrushing your luckyier than A M Jones scrapyard in widnes uk explosion was massive half of town heard it, fire involved 2 cars and the crane for handling scrap
That was intense - almost felt like I was there. At one point you were in the fire almost "too long" and I started thinks - gotta move Cowboy, don't cook the hydraulic lines. Well done, that was awesome teamwork.
Gasoline vapors can be insidious. Whatever it was, your cool head and being able to operate your machine well saved the day! It is incredible how fast and how hard vehicles burn once they are on fire. Tires are wicked too when they burn! Your whole crew were trying so hard to help as well! I was hoping a puddle would have been deep enough to help extinguish the fire!
It's good that you got the car out but I'm surprised for a scrap yard you have no fire extinguishers you just had one but the guy were brought over that's surprising for a scrap yard are you should have one in your tractor but you did a good job😀👍👍🔥🔥
We used 6 or 7 fire extinguishers including the one in the loader. We've changed a few procedures out there hopefully it won't happen again. But we ain't scared...hahaha. Thanks for watching and commenting
@@CowboyCarCrushing WOW I will admid that i was a little chocked over the fire, and that it was so close to other cars :-) Nice to C how you admanced it!!
Had this happen 10 years ago at a garage opposite my house, guy drilling out a petrol tank of a scrap car, to reclaim petrol, he dropped his drill on the metal deck of the recovery truck, the car was extended with crane.... there as a spark and bang, the lot went up, petrol running all down the yard, the owner was trapped next to his truck, he was trying to get the car away from his truck and buildings...but did not work...he had to climb over a high wall to escape..!!! The biggest fire I had ever seen, seemed like ages before the brigade showed up, even caught light to next garage to it, full of cars and gas bottles everywhere,.!! After 20 minutes it was out, 3 cars and a truck were completely destroyed, my house only 30ft away, scary stuff indeed...!!!
I watched an old car recycling video where standard procedure was to fire the car before reycling to get rid of the rubber and cotton and such... Can you imagine burning every car out before you crush,The sky would be black!
Brother they burned cars in Ft. Worth up until the mid 70's. They had cable cranes that would stack 50 to 60 cars in a pyramid. They would have 3 to 5 of these pyramids burning at the same time. They would burn for 3 days. It's really wild just the think about think about that
In Britain there was a specialised train scrapyard that dealt with old passenger trains with blue asbestos by firing them so that the asbestos could then be removed from inside the shell. But they used a special incinerator, so probably much less air pollution.
One day about 30 years ago on my way to work a 1980’s Ranger going the other way pulled over and the older driver got out. Smoke coming out of the hood. This was right across the street from a new fire station so I ran inside alerting them thinking that they would run out with fire extinguishers. Nope they opened a big door and drove a fire truck across the street after I moved my Mazda B2000 out of the way. The smoke from the Ranger really grew once it reached the dashboard. Tires popping make quite a bang. I asked one fire fighter about the gas tank exploding and he said “that’s quite rare for them to explode because they are sealed, the fire would have to progress a lot for the gasoline tank to explode”.
@@accouti I still can't believe them boys had that fire white smoking in 6 minutes. Fire out in less than 10. Not bad for not having high "water pressure".... hahahaha. Really proud of em
@@accouti I'm still digesting it to be honest. This video is allowing me to conduct an after action review. I can see a couple things for next time. I hope it never happens again 🤞. But I ain't gonna kid myself. Ain't the first time, probably not the last time.
Put a damn bucket on that loader an put some damn dirt on it lol. Unless you don't have a bucket in that yard but you did handle it very well tho you caught ur self starting to freak out an u stopped it nice job
Really gets your blood pumping. Im not some fire pyro, but it is fun. Trying to solve a problem under those conditions as fast you can. That's good stuff 👊👍
I had a van do this on the trailer once,Lucky the man at the yard is a friend,He unloaded the van before it got the trailer or truck. The fire dep was not impressed, and the van had to sit for two weeks in summer before we could re weigh it and get it crushed.
Perhaps need to get something like water tanks on site that stay on site that are just filled with water. perhaps a pump or two that can be attached to them with hoses. just for this reason. Until firefighters can get on scene. at least stuff wont be burning as much.
I don't think "steel belted radial" his how I want my brisket smoked... hahahaha. The guys on the shovels and buckets put it out. They jumped right in there
Years ago I worked in a grocery yard and we've caught a few quite a few cars on fire had to call the fire department one time we had five of them on fire
How are they working? cars need to be decontaminate before pressing them batterie, coolant, oil, gas. at least if you don't remove the tank drain it correctly. drop a strap wedge a bar to incline the tank. also cats but we don't talk about that not for nothing that theft are sky high now. 🙄
Cowboy fast thinking about the puddles and trying to get that fire out fast and efficient and thank goodness everyone is ok and most of all A+++ for the fast thinker!! Thank goodness your Guys are as fast as you are!!
The answer would be to keep one of those large containers you have there full of water and place it in the middle of the yard for events like this ,have seen it done over here in English yards .
I witnessed a couple of car fire first it was a 92 Toyota Corolla wagon second a Volkswagen Jetta wagon but I never had a fire situation of my own but had a gas leak problem & a gas smell problem on my street having to call Con Edison
This is why you drain all fluids from a car before you scrap it and remove the fuel tank. We have quite strict regulations in australia on car dismantling and if the car has airconditioning the scrapyard has to bring in a specialized person to remove the gas from the cars airconditioning system before scrapping otherwise if you get caught letting the gas out into the atmosphere thats a hefty fine and same if you drop the oil or fuel left in the tank on the ground ,its all get to be removed and taken away by contractors so if i were you MR cowboy car wrecker dont wreck the enviroment while wrecking disused and old cars.
If the Fire Department shows up and has to put that fire out more than likely they are going to shut you down for a few days to evaluate your procedures. If you got the fire out before they show up more than likely you can return to work.
At my friends yard in Pennsylvania, they just move them away & either let it burn out or dump loads of dirt on them with a old front end loader with a bucket on it , once my other friends place tossed it into a old scrap dumpster & literally let it burn 🔥 literally a dumpster fire 🤣 back in the late 90's my friends bodyshop had 2 cars catch on fire, I just crushed them with a steel track excavator & tossed them around like rag dolls ,until I pushed them in the hole in the field & buried them, the fire dept finally came ,but the cars was literally gone & the ground was all steamy & smokey, they canceled the call so no one got in trouble or fined ,the cars was scrap anyway so no insurance claims was needed
I’ve had a few junk cars catch fire over the years. The burn hot, and spread quickly. I would of thrown it in the puddle, and let it burn, as long as it’s away from other flammable stuff. If they had something with a bucket? They could of scooped water up, and dumped on it.
Well I never been in a fire situation but what I witnessed I was coming home from school 1 time & I saw a guys Toyota Corolla station wagon went up in flames
As a Cert Firefighter. Grab that bucket and dump loads of dirt on top until FD. Takeing a piece out of the fire triangle with is oxygen. No oxygen no fire 🔥
@@CowboyCarCrushing I would agree. You don't want to spread it or "push" it, you want to snuff it. I would think your local fire department might try to put foam on it or something to snuff it out.
@@googleusergp that place is out in the country. We had the fire out and finished processing the car and crushed it before the fire Department showed up. I showed the video. They loved it
How did this catch on fire? Jesus that was wild for a minute. Could have gone badly wrong if the gas tank wasnt drained or did it still have fuel in it?
