I can't think of the last time I went out for a ride and came home after the ride thinking I wish I hadn't bothered..... But very regularly before a ride I don't feel like going out at all and feel really grumpy too, but always end up coming home much happier and grateful, than when I left!

Hi Katie, i grew up in London, England area and took the wet weather for granted until I moved to Ontario, Canada as a teen. Here the sun shines five days a week and mostly rain showers when not. Now retired, I get to drive to Florida for the winter to ride everyday in sunshine. I'm 79, bike 12,000 km per year and loving retirement. BTW, I will be in Mallorca, your favourite place, in Sept 2025 with 35 cycling mates/buddies. Second visit. Yesterday was 17C and mostly sunny.

Hello Katie, This might have been my favorite video of yours of all time. I admit, part of that was because we got to see your sidekick, Stevy "McShizzle Bad Boy Supreme." But mostly it was because we humans do tend to react to the world around us through contrast. So it helps to be reminded that often life is more beautiful than it seems if we stop and consider how things look through the eyes of others.

It's good to show your true feelings. Just because you're grumpy, it doesn't mean you're not grateful. I get the hump on my morning commute with this bum weather. I viciously slag off everything in my head, and then it clears, and I feel terrific. You're just doing it on camera. I totes appreciate you being real ❤ (and agree that the weather is proper PANTS)

1. Cycling - finding it the way I have at this point in my life to help me sort through the mental health of a global pandemic whilst being great for my physical health. 2. My Family - a beautiful wonderful wife and daughter are the reason I do most things, but also my brothers and parents and all the other feel like family people in my life that ‘charge’ me. 3. My Job - at 40 (12 years ago) I made a pretty substantial life changing career jump to a job that is equal parts challenging and rewarding.

Health and wellbeing (physical and mental) are everything. So important to both appreciate and look after them. That said I'm also fed up of the weather :) Went to wider tyres recently Katie. Got 30mm on now and it's great. No slower - faster if anything - and just dont feel as beaten up by the crappy roads. Not sure what you're using but worth a try. Even wider might be better still.

Gratitude is an attitude. Not always possible for us to be 100% grateful for what we have 100% of the time. The woman in the wheelchair allowed you to step back from the superficial discomfort to rediscover your gratitude. I fight this battle daily. Boils down to this for me: When I am disturbed, it is because I find some person, place, thing or situation - some fact of my life - unacceptable to me. I can find no serenity until I accept that person, place, thing or situation as being exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment. I have to ask what is it about ME that needs to change to get in harmony with what's going on. That being said...this sh*t weather has to end. Gray, wet and cold here too. Let us know what event you're training for. My first post surgical riding event is Tour of Battenkill...I'll be slower than I want, but faster than sitting on my couch with a tub of ice cream 😅

1: whatever level of health and fitness you have right now, in 20 or 30 or 40 years, you would just love to have back. So I am grateful for what I have and the enjoyment of getting outside and riding and hiking and enjoying being alive and challenging myself to improve. 2: Family that I can help take care of. 3: Worthwhile work. 4: Finding Katie K’s channel when I had C19 in Sept. I was stuck home, couldn’t exercise, couldn’t do anything, and just binged for over a week. Got addicted to your cheery attitude and adventuring, and it made me want to get out more, but it also motivated me to try harder things than I thought I could do, and refusing to accept setbacks as permanent.

So I'm disabled. during flare ups I need to use a mobility scooter (and used to have to use it for most trips out). These days I am able to also cycle on an ebike. complain all you want. the roads are crap. The pavements are crap for folks in wheelchairs and using scooters and the roads are crap for people on bikes. And like, I am so so grateful to have my scooter for those periods when that was the only way I could get out and about - it gave me freedom to do things even though the pavements were a pain in the arse. And now I feel the same about being out on my bike. We absolutely should appreciate the things we can do and make the most of them, but sometimes the road surface just is crap and the weather is rubbish and it's all a bit pants and that's ok too. (but also, please please please take the time to contact your local council and report faults you see with pavements that reduce accessibility. Take part in local campaigns and consultations and champion the right for everybody to be able to get out and about safely whether that's on a bike or in a wheelchair.)

When you discover that every step of the journey is the same. You can enjoy the first step and the last step and every step in between. Crossing the line is euphoric, of course, but that's all there is. It's short lived. After a couple of days you're back to taking single steps again. If you want to be happy you must enjoy it all, at whatever point you are at, from the beginning to the end. Because ultimately happiness is the acceptance of the journey as it is now, not the promise of the the other shore. 😉

It has some of the worst wearher on the planet regardless what anyone says, its not the cold its the grey and rain , its all year round....i dont a winter there for tge past 20+ years for that exact reason because the weather & the politics makes UK a severely depressing place in winter 😮

@@KatieKookaburra ... depending how long you wanna get away for also dictates the best place to be in what you wanna do there, and how much cash you have ...For me the last 20+ years has been INDIA, you have so much variation here and it's still easy to make affordable without having to work, the weather in the South of India in UKs winter period is second to none , from November through to the end of February the weather is Idyllic in this part of India and then March/April really gets hot but by then you can go North to HIMALAYA which in April is Wow, I know cause I'm here NOW 😜 😂...But of course many people fear coming to INDIA because of ridiculous western media telling them it's like this and that, usually negative...but if you try and LOVE IT be sure you'll find it too irresistible to never return to it 🙏 "Om Namah Shiviah"

A grumpy day on the bicycle is better than dealing with a mystery illness that causes you to become extremely dizzy. It's going to be another battle with the medical folks again. What I'm grateful for: I'm alive. I have come close to being killed several times in the last decade. Another is that I got my bicycle back after it was "nicked" in relative good condition. The last is that I have an understanding partner who was helping me get around last night.

I’m on number two. Last year should have been number two but we lost Mr Kerr (my complete hero) … of course last year there was no rain and a mad rush on ice creams. Massive challenge for different reasons nonetheless. #chapeau ALL APNers
