Every Digimon has a backstory, their own attacks and abilities, their own place in the world, they are all essentially characters, not just animals. They have voices, identities, and character development. People don't use Digimon to fight, they help Digimon fight, Digimon don't actually live in the human world, they live in their own world, humans aren't really supposed to be there.
