This is exactly my situation right now. All my childhood I have been passionate about joining defense sectors, but the law doesn't allow homosexuals to be part of defense sectors. My career seems to be not in my hands because of law. I want to contribute to my nation, but it's forcing me to move out of the country for my masters and where I could live my life with dignity. It just feels awful when I think of middle/lower class families who cannot afford to do so. It's unfair. The extent to which this affects individuals' mental health is horrible. The way LGBTQ+ individuals are treated amongst their peer groups, friends, and family is way too challenging. Bullying, mocking, judging, criticism, and whatnot. We are devoid of our basic rights. Not allowed to live our lives with dignity. It just affects individuals well being and the country as a whole.

You're highly mistaken my friend, no ancient civilization accepted LGBT+ folks as there was no concept of sexual orientation or gender identity per se. Also, you have to read Dharma-Shashtra such as Manu-Smriti in order to realise how wrong you are about your perception. Indulging in same sex activity could cause a loss of caste for an upper caste individual. The only Indian text that remotely could be considered sex positive is Kama-Sutra by Vatsyayana. That too doesn't have deep understanding of anything like we have today. And it wasn't conferred with authority like the Vedas and other texts, for this very reason. Nonetheless, Indian religious texts have either remained silent for the most part at the cost of LGBT+ folks being made outcasts or have maintained a less hostile stance compared to the Abrahamic texts. Because Hinduism believes in pursuit of moksha and every soul, regardless, is equally capable of that.

I'm as capable as a straight boy of my age would be. I want to marry my partner and lead a normal life in my own country without having to move out to some other country just to have my basic rights away from my family and friends. It’s basically my story. When 12, I knew I was different and being born in India in a lower middle class tribal household didn’t help. I worked hard, and whenever I felt depressed or demotivated I just thought of my need to be independent to be a man of my own will, or to say simply, to move out. I got into a medical college. Grant MC Mumbai to be specific, the best in the state & one of the oldest in Asia. And now that I think of it, as much as I want to live a happy life in the States or UK or Canada, I don’t feel like to leave my country in its present shitty state. As everyone can relate, there’s no way we can live here with dignity. Luckily I got a set of very kind and accepting friends, but again, everyone doesn’t. It’s so painful to work so hard, having 12 hour and sometimes even 24 hour shifts serving the society as a doctor who are often equated to god, but then get words like filthy, faggot, chakka, unnatural, product of the west and so on so forth imprinted on my back just for loving whom I love. It’s so much pressure, feels like a burden. Life feels like the myth of Sisyphus, meaningless. But I didn’t come so far to back off right? I’ll not be the one getting shamed for society’s own wrongs, for the society is the one to be ashamed! However, I managed to attain certain powers to escape the “Discreet Gay” destiny (which most of my past Grindr hookups possessed), but not everybody can. Although my traditional Hindu family would be hard to convince (don’t mind my username, it’s just a spare account), I’m certainly at a way better position than top 1% of gay men (in matters of overall wellness) in this country. Seeing my own struggles so fucking hard & deep, I cant even imagine what others must be going through. We can’t stay hidden for long. Those who are privileged must increase our visibility, amplify our voices and ask for rights. In this fight we don’t have a class, caste, religion or gender, we’re undivided, we all are QUEERS in here. We need to stay strong, be visible, be heard, fight together and ultimately win!!!!!!

@@Rowdyjat Amara Das Wilhelm's book "Tritiya-Prakriti: People of the Third Sex", compiles years of extensive research of Sanskrit texts from medieval and ancient India, and proves that homosexuals and the "third gender" were not only in existence in Indian society back then, but that these identities were also widely accepted. Citing from the chapter "Purushayita" in the Kama Sutra, a 2nd century ancient Indian Hindu text, the book mentions that lesbians were called "swarinis". These women often married other women and raised children together. They were also readily accepted both within the 'third gender' community and ordinary society. The book further made mention of gay men or "klibas", which though could refer to impotent men, represented mostly men who were impotent with women due to their "homosexual tendencies". They (gay men) were thoroughly referenced in the chapter “Auparishtaka” in the Kama Sutra, which is to do with oral sex. Homosexual men who assumed the ‘passive’ role in oral sex were referred to as ‘mukhebhaga’ or ‘asekya’. The Kama Sutra's homosexual man could either be effeminate or masculine. While they were known to be involved in relationships of a frivolous nature, they were also known to marry each other. The book further mentions that there were eight different kinds of marriages that existed under the Vedic system, and out of those, a homosexual marriage between two gay men or two lesbians were classified under the "gandharva" or celestial variety - "a union of love and cohabitation, without the need for parental approval". Who Can Deny Khajuraho? It’s impossible to talk about homosexuality in ancient India without referring to one of its most affirmative and visual ‘proofs’, so to speak. The sculptures in the Khajuraho temple of Madhya Pradesh are known for their overt homosexual imagery. The temple is popularly believed to have been built sometime around the 12th century. The sculptures embedded in the Khajuraho temple depict what seem to be sexual fluidity between man and man and woman and woman. There are even instances of all-female orgies. While the sculptures also depict “accepted” sexual relations between male and female entities, it is well-known for showcasing the existence of intimacy between members of the same sex. Upon his visit to the temple, US-based techie Hrishikesh Sathawane wrote in DNA: “If you think homosexuality is a western concept, go to Khajuraho... It is debatable if these things were socially acceptable in India, but they existed.” Bhagirathi - The King Born of Two Queens According to Krittivasi Ramayan, composed by by 15th century Bengali poet Krittibas Ojha, King Sagara of Ayodhya was desperate to maintain his bloodline after losing most of his sons to Kapila sage’s wrath. The threat to the dynasty further worsened, when Dilip, his only heir, died before he could give his two queens the magic potion that would make them pregnant. But according to the poem, the widows drank the potion, and made love to each other to conceive a child, with one of them becoming pregnant. The child was none of other than King Bhagirathi, who is known in mythology for bringing the Ganges down to earth from the heavensVaruna and Mitra, famously referred to as the “same-sex couple” in the ancient Indian scripture of the Rig Veda, were often depicted riding a shark or crocodile or sitting side-by-side on a golden chariot together. According to the Shatapatha Brahmana, a prose text describing Vedic rituals, history and mythology, they are representatives of the two half-moons. “On that new moon night, Mitra implants his seed in Varuna and when the moon later wanes, that waning is produced from his seed. Varuna is similarly said to implant his seed in Mitra on the full-moon night for the purpose of securing its future waxing,” Valmiki’s Ramayana depicts Hanuman witnessing Rakshasa women kissing and embracing those women who had been kissed and embraced by Ravana. This is a clear acknowledgement of same-sex intimacy in India history and tradition.

Also about the 'pretending to gay and marrying into rich', there are plenty of straight couples out there who pretend to be in love for the money. Is the solution to stop getting people married in different financial status married? Obviously no, then why should the entire LGBTQ community suffer for these fictional scenarios. I understand that everybody is not literate in India but why should two people in love suffer for someone else's stupidity. Many couples are still having more than two kids despite all the actions taken and they are not showing signs of stopping. I am very well aware of the existing adoption laws. I know that the LGBTQ+ community still doesn’t have the right to marry in India, and parenthood is out of the question for most. I also know that lgbtq+ couples aren't legally allowed to marry yet so the general marry laws don't apply to them. I am just asking for a adressal to these issues for the greater good. In a country where rights for single parents and live-in couples with children is still an arduous battle, the discrimination against LGBTQ+ parents is not even part of public conversations. I am saying that this needs to change because Article 16 of the United Nations’ Universal declaration of human rights states that “men and women of full age… have the right to marry and to found a family.” There are 29.6 million orphaned and abandoned children in India which is a country with a disconcertingly low adoption rate. However, willing same-sex couples are still deprived of their adoption rights in the country. All I am asking for is a chance to fit in all these interrelated problems together, I don't know where 'stupid feminism' came in for you but I respectfully disagree with your opinion. You can also choose to do that respectfully.

We were the country where people could happily explore their sexual orientations. But nowdays people think it's not our culture. It's sad that even in the year of 2021 homophobia exist. But as a genz (2006) I think that our generation can change and I strongly believe that this generation would try to accept LGBTQ+ community as normal. Changes will begin. I'll make change ,we can all make changes by educating people around us. I hope for upcoming future generations we'll make a better & more open minded. society.

India is regressing everyday. We are losing our basic democratic rights. You guys are lucky to have escaped the majoritarian India of today. I expect India to take away the basic rights of all its citizens who don't support the BJP. So we can forget about gay rights..love is criminal in India today. Interfaith, inter caste, etc. India has willingly voted for hate twice already. We are doomed.

Things really need to change. The amount of struggles that the LGBTQ+ people face is immense. It's just two people trying to live a normal life. They're the same humans as us. They deserve the same rights as anyone else. And in my opinion one of the ways we can improve this situation is by being accepting to everyone despite of their sexuality.

Why educated people are gay? Can someone be gay without knowledge of sex? Imagine if we are animal we naturally attracted to female Animal . This is natural. Since human being have got mind so they can think differently in every direction (science, sex etc). So they can make up mind whom they can love. So everyone is free and independent. So we should not judge people. I am also gay BTW.

Well one thing is for sure that it is more of a social problem than administrative because lets be real even if the court passes the law that recognises same sex marriages it won't make much of a difference as you still can't live a normal life cuz the indian masses (conventional, conservative n orthodox citizens ie almost 80 percent populace) are still gonna persecute you. Now i know that in future the society may become more accepting and less hostile given that Gen Z is very unprejudiced in such matters (thanks to the western media n Netflix)
