Sat down to journal about the "Fireball in the Sky" and wound up going in a different direction! Well, down into the earth instead of up in the sky! Come on along for some shaky journaling! #journal

Love your stories and facts. ❤❤❤. Wow the fact documenting runs deep in your family. Oh wow I hope you can find someone who has your aunt’s genealogy work. That would be fascinating. Thanks for being you with your fun reenactment, cartoons and tippy buildings. You always make me smile. ❤

You make it seem so easy to build a journal page. I aspire to be able to do that too. Since I live near the Mississippi River we do have earthquakes every once in a while. The one I remember best was when I was about 12 or so and I was standing in the neighbors front yard and I had a very strange sensation that my knees were shaking. The lady across the street came running out of her house yelling about how her washer had walked across the basement floor. Of course it was over quickly but I’ll never forget it. We live on the New Madrid Fault and it could do some major shifting at some point. It’s so interesting that your great aunt wrote a book about the big quake. Thanks for sharing. Gayle

Howdy, Gayle! Thank you for sharing your earthquake story! Funny about the washing machine though. When I lived in Southern Missouri, we had a medium sized quake at about 6.1 ( I think it was). I got such a chuckle when seeing your earthquake reenactment back in April! I was quite taken by surprise with a lengthy rumbling of my kitchen door! But that was all we experienced here.

I live in south central Arkansas. Several years ago we were sitting in our home office and felt a little rumble. We joked around about it being an earthquake only to find out there had been an earthquake about 100 miles north that we felt!

In Ohio, we pronounce it New MAD'rid, with the accent on the first syllable (like the word mad). I think they pronounced it that way so it wouldn't be confused with the Spanish city. 😸😽👵

Your thought process being a little scary?? LOL How interesting that your Great Aunt Mryl wrote that book about the 1811-1812 big earthquake that happened. I have heard about it many times, since it involves western KY. I just cannot imagine how horrible and scary that would be. Probably have to change my underwear if I survived to do so! This is off subject, but I was talking on the phone to my cousin, and she was remembering when she was about 8 years old. My brother was at their house, and he was working on some sort of fan. He probably was 18 or 19 years old then. A really bad storm came up and the gutter wasn't fixed right and so the water wasn't going to go into the well. She asked her Mom if she needed to run out and fix it. Her Mom agreed and out she ran barefooted. She said she moved the gutter so it would work, but then lightening hit the gutter (at least she thought so), and she felt the shock, which scared her half to death. She came in and she said she was screaming, "I was struck by lightning!! I was struck by lightning!!" She said my brother looked at her and said, calm as could be, "Dummy, if you were struck by lightning, you'd be dead." That gave me a good laugh. That is exactly what my brother would have said!! I must tell him about that and see if he remembers it. He will laugh about it too!! My cousins had lost their Dad in a farm accident, so my brother was good to help them. He worked and had a new car (a 1969 green Plymouth Roadrunner) and they called upon him when they needed to go to the doctor or somewhere. Her sister got appendicitis but the local doctor did not treat her for that. He was calling it something else and she almost died as a result. They had sent her home and one morning they called my brother at 4 a.m. to see if he would take her to Lexington to the hospital there, since her fever was high and she was vomiting. He took her to Lexington and they operated on her right away. She was there for a week or so and then she got an infection and they had to go back in again. She got fine after that. Memories...............

Howdy, Precious Rachel! I love to hear your stories! This one was quite amazing! Happy she finally got the proper care and that your brother was there to give her a ride to the hospital.
