Don't feel disheartened, you did a top notch job👍 . I bet most wouldn't had even checked the bores. At least the customer has all the information now moving forward.
As I found to my cost 6-8000 mile oil changes are a must on these engines, otherwise timing chain will wear out prematurely. Ignore the long drain interval rubbish. My Astra 1.6cdti's timing chain had to be done a few miles short of 80,000. Noticed that in it's service history oil changes were done at 20,000 miles before I bought it. Chain replacement was £1245.00 - 9 months after buying. Now gets oil & filter changed every 6-8000. So far, so good. Now at 116,000 and counting. Oil is cheaper than metal..Great video Baz..but oh the pain of this one..!!
🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢 box of matches that car needs Amazing job Baz as always..massive pleasure to watch as always. Just think you just rebuilt a car in two days. Amazing job!
Baz the best he has seen it all in manufactures and sharing part baz has seen it all and yes i respect him for that and yes any1 out there keep following bcos we are all learning hey 😊
Hey vauxhall engine the old best engine they made was the red top the 8valve plastic distributor drives use to break who been in the game long yes 👍and yes never me being master tech I use to work for Boardman's recovery failures that's what this channel and sharing the wealth hey baz understands me 👍
Im in the trade so i understand what he goes threw fiat lancia alfa master tech all of u good 1s as we say keep following this is the real world as we say it includinding problems 😮
I don't understand why a lot of car manufacturers put the timing chain at the rear of the engine requiring gearbox removal to replace? Why not fit it at the front of the engine like the good old days! I must be missing something?
Is there an other dump ass manufacturer have the same setup as this,I'd like the people that designed this engine to do what baz did and then give them a good kick
actually im very satisfied with my car Opel Astra with the same 1.6 cdti engine. i drive 100km every day for round trip to work and ive done 220k km so far and the economy is a blast, averaging around 4.5L/km ... but im dreading when the time comes for this chain change, massive job indeed. wish i was closer to UK, i would have drive to Baz and i would have know its in expert hands
Well done Baz you,ve done your bit and all is good. Its a good job you checked with the scope because in a way you just covered your ass in case he tried to blame you in the future.
Please don’t get disheartened Baz. You do awesome work and you did what the customer asked for in fact you went above and beyond by identifying the cracked piston. A quick question. Could running of the vehicle with the slack timing chain caused the damage to the pistons?
Christ Baz, what a bloody faff of a job and a gutting result at the end. You put your heart and soul into it. Ah well. You did what you could. Maybe it’ll last 1000 miles, maybe another 50,000.
It’s no wonder car repair bills can be so high nowadays when engine designs are so complicated, especially diesels with all their extra emissions reducing components, & in particular this Vauxhall unit with it’s rear mounted timing chain. All credit to Baz for his amazing patience & perseverance!
I wouldn't even attempt a job like that Baz, so fair play.........it's soul-destroying when it bites back but you'll soon forget about it and move on to the next job.
Vauxhall lost their way after the MK3 Cavalier, then it all went to s*** Overfuelling injectors has killed the pistons. No doubt some poor bugger will buy it.
Airport Company local to me uses E Class Mercs nothing unusual to get one with 500k + on it still running well, The Maintenance they do is Absolutely On the Ball Though.
Soul destroying going through all that work to discover that faulty piston. @ 162,000 miles I'm surprised the taxi driver owner didn't just replace the engine.
Bazarooney, a hard lesson learned (we learn something new every day). I have no idea about the car's value, but with hindsight, was this a write-off? Moving on will you be telling the customers we have to remove the injectors to inspect the pistons before we can give you a realistic quote for replacing the timing chain and, clutch assembly?
Are you sure that was a crack in the piston ?? It would be running like a dog and bellowing smoke out the exhaust , love your videos and as a fellow mechanic of 28 years I feel your pain , it’s by far the hardest and most expensive trade to be in , I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone,
Gotta think it came in for you to do the timing chain. Not a diagnosis on the overall health of the engine. You weren't to know. With the cost of parts and your labour to do that. An insignia with that mileage I was just wondering was it even worth it!? Big job that like.
I'm not as clued up when it comes to cars, but can't those pistons just be replaced with new ones, how big a job would that be and how much would it cost ? And if you left it and did nothing how much more could you get out of that engine till it completely died, maybe about 30k miles if lucky ?
@@bazmeredith have you got a link bud would help a guy in the trade out massively, I had a nightmare similar to what you’ve had before, rocker arm needle bearing dropped down cylinder luckily I fished it out with a small magnet
you can tell the insignia b is more peugeot then vauxhall... i have a insignia a biturbo and to me when i get under the bonnet still feels gm like despite having a fiat engine, saying that ive not had many issues... this looks more like my dads peugeot 3008...
@@khalidacosta7133 the engine might be gm... but the rest doesnt feel like the mk1 insignia... looking at that expansion tank... it doesnt look very gm of later years most of them were more square... the dv6 in my dads 3008 seems ok but feels budget and it did have a rocker cover leak... saying that my mrs mokka is cheap feeling and that is gm...
@@danp8241 Insignia was always GM. Sure there might have been small Pug bits in there, such as expansion tank etc but that's always the case with manufacturers. My friend's VW has the same expansion tank cap as my Pug for example, but the important bits were GM. With Stellantis now owning everything, it should have meant we should get a stonking 508 / Insignia, maybe with V8 power ... but it seems everyone just wants an SUV now.
That's why I've seen the changes sharing part and after certain year they was fiat engines this was when fiat did a deal with vauxhall they had are engines we had there crazy m32 box who's robbing who 😂signs of times but as a master tech fiat lancia Alfa made the best engines 😮
