I was in the scouts late 60’s early 70’s. The highlight of my youth. Never had a Yucca but can’t recall how I carried my gear. We did lots of camping and hiking but very little backpacking. It saddens me to see what has become of scouting.

I loved the video. I used to use the top center D ring to cinch rolled up items like rain coat, Jacket or sweater. And used a second cord to cinch the top. Tarp or tent was made into a horseshoe shape and secured around the pack. Here’s a tip. Use clear nail polish to seal and water proof a cloth tie where it is stitched to a tent or the ends of the cloth tie to stop it from fraying

I still have my pack,when I look at it today, I wonder how I ever got any gear in it! The large external pack frame fit it like a glove it cost 9.98 in the local scout shop... Oh those were the days. Great vid, Praying for you and your precious family, your Scouts and your students.

I have a green canvas with leather straps Forest Service personal equipment pack I often use. Very similar to the Yucca.

Pine Tree Patrol was a trek cart system. Yucca Patrol System was the name of that booklet.

i still have mine from the 50's and wonder how i got much in it.later our troop made pack baskets that were big and used for canoe tripping.

I remember some calling it the yucky pack. I do like Dave Canterbury's idea of the plastic trash can inside making a pack/packbasket combo. I would think for a classic look you would need a old basket of a size to fit. Add a light weight wood frame and it would equal a modern pack. In some ways the Yucca is superior to a Poirer if you are not portageing huge amounts of gear for a camp or winter supplies.

I had a 1950s Boy Scout Logo version of this pack. I DID NOT have several ditty bags to organize them and to keep them in place. I never liked the way things settled into a mass at the bottom of the pack: the load pulled on my shoulders.

It is July 14, 2024 and there are only 55 of these packs on eBay as we speak. They are definitely not a dime dozen. Most are in poor condition.

Hoi the Video is very Good. One like is in my collection. But not good. too small. Look on the Internet for swiss Army backpack. from 1930 The Aff. a cowhide backpack. Greetings Mario from switzerland
