This makes so much sense oh gosh. At first he is denial of the gravity of Wilbur's death by spending time with Ghostbur avoiding his past. He never showed anger directly after this part of the story but that's fine bc grief isn't always a clear cut model and I can imagine that maybe Philza was a bit angry at Ghostbur for avoiding talking to Fundy about serious things and adoption. You then sort of see bargaining as Philza tries to step into the role of Fundy's father for Wilbur and be a good grandfather to Fundy. But as he is put under house arrest and Techboblade is executed, Philza sort of enters a darker stage that can be interpreted as depression where he loses hope in everyone but techno and blows up lmanburg with Techno. In this part of his character, he loses hope in governmnet because of how he sees it corrupted Wilbur, Tubbo, and others important to him. Phil blowing up Lmanburg also shows a reoccurrence of the anger stage and how Philza blows up his friends homes in anger, even leaving Ghostbur's Friend to die. Finally after Ghostbur's resurrection attempts, Philza comes to a sort of acceptance in that he is fine with his sons wishes even if it means that he will lose him again. Of course he's still working through his grief and his healing is a bit fractured, but he is mostly content with Wilbur. But now Wilbur being resurrected is gonna royally fuck with his healing
Me, clicking the thumbnail: "huh, 'Not Your Fault', this looks cool, wonder what the song is gonna be" *Mumford and Sons starts playing* Me, suddenly crying: "oh I see"
I find it crazier that Ghost remembers it as a happy memory. a HAPPY one. All three of them always make me question how long I have before I only exist as tears lol.
Philza's character (his serious moments) always gives me this bitter-sweet sadness. I really am happy that his character gets alot of recognition, but I also think he's underratted.
It's actually super nice that Phil seems to have warmed up to the idea of doing more roleplay and lore lately. I enjoy how he gives us crumbs even in the middle of "normal" or semi-lore streams, revealing glipses of his character's backstory, feelings, and way of thinking. It's also cool to see him talking about headcanons, AU and fan content in general, and how he takes inspiration from them; I, for one, am quite pleased by the recent inclusion of his wife as a supernatural force (probably a goddess of fate or death) into the Dream SMP canon, for example.
@@straightjacket_kickboxer Phil has said on stream that he's actually super terrified doing lore because he compares his own performance to that of his friends (Tommy, Wilbur, etc) and sees himself as inferior. Because of that, I'm so incredibly proud that, without any of the "theater kid" talent or training, Phil's still courageous enough to push past his limits and put himself out there regardless. Philza Minecraft is so brave!
I wrote in the description and on my twitter that there are deviations from the canon. In short, Phil did not know about Fundy's existence and installed the tombstone before they met
@@ThreeRatsInACoat I recommend Passerine, that's what started me crying at books when before I never cried. Well, I also just started randomly getting super emotional since then but still
I love how this animatic doesn’t show the blown up L’manburg. They showed him trying to reason with his son and then him cradling his son’s body in his arms. They don’t show the button being pressed because that is not what matters to Philza. It’s his son, his son who needed his help. This is an animatic about Philza, not the fall of L’manburg or the button. It is about Philza trying to save his son and mourn. It shows what truly matters to Philza, his son and not some country.
Oh my God as stunning as always! Phil and Wilbur always wanna make me cry, and that scene at Wil’s grave with Phil and Techno was heart shattering. I’m also assuming the unseen man that was holding Fundy’s hand when Phil saw them was Eret? Anyways, animatic was lovely. Absolutely breathtaking
not sure if it was intentional or not but i love the symbolism of not seeing wilbur’s eyes until phil killed him and this whole animatic is just so amazing
@@Knp I noticed that you didn’t show L’manburg blowing up. It’s because this is a Philza animatic. He doesn’t care about some country compared to his son. We see him trying to stop Wilbur, then we see Wilbur dead. It is truly beautiful.
This would honestly be the coolest thing Netflix would have ever done. And instead of letting Netflix write it, just let their animation team do the animation and let them keep writing and voice acting.
Not me. Dream Smp is media that really only works as well as it does because of the media it's in, and when that's combined with Netfix's track record of mediocre adaptations, I'm not sure how much I'd like that. However, animatics and stuff? Gorgeous, beautiful, showstopping.
@@orion3threat thats why I said to let. Netflix’s team only animate. Because their adaptations are horrid. But maybe if we just gave the animation to Dream works or something instead and just put on something easily accessible. Either way it would be cool to see an animated series for the Dream SMP. But yes I am quite afraid of Netflix and their adaptations.
there's actually people working on creating "The Dream SMP The Animated Series" rn. also Ponk is gonna be voice acting as himself in it. you can follow the updates for it on twitter youtube and tiktok and they have a discord for it.
I really like how you put Techno's mask on when it would be appropriate for his character not to show raw emotions. He felt safe with Phil in his cabin so he was comfortable showing his true feelings.
How beautiful that at the start it's Phil singing as he goes through his grief, but the final chorus is Wilbur singing, taking the fault on his own head and absolving Phil of his guilt.
Tbf, Phil couldn’t be really blamed for Wilbur spiraling into madness. Wilbur told him in his letters that everything was fine and dandy and Phil only realized how bad it was when he arrived.
This animatic shows so beautifully the ways of interpretation and how pictures speak where words do not. At 2:17 Techno has his mask on. I like to think that he keeps it on purposely because he wants to be strong for Phil, be there for him, but we know he's crying too. Excellent job!
i just thought of this really cool AU where phillza is an ageless god and he continues to make new timelines to have his original family back and the worlds include his hardcore world, SMP earth, dreamsmp, etc. i think the is a really cool idea.
I wish Philza could ever see it. You did a piece of such a creative work! I need to say that I've known "Little Lion Man" song for years, and I certainly would never come up with this kind of idea. Keep going with your stuff, it always look stunnin'! (Also, sorry for any typos in that comment! Was trying my best at writing flawlessly ngl)
Ever since I read passerine, I always assume that there was one flower there that was yellow and when I saw the bouquet in Phil’s hand I started sobbing XD
I didn't read the caption beforehand, and immediately breathed a very happy "noooo" at the screen at the first second of the song. OH MY. I love it so much and it's so fitting! I knew right then I would cry. And oooooooh yes I did. This is stunning.
2:01 he was a father too :( But other than that, I really love this. It’s really great to see how you are slowly gaining popularity in the DSMP fandom, you deserve it!!!!
All your animatics are absoloutely beautiful and have such great compositions for each frame!! But this one just hit me in a certain spot with phil rewatching his memories and being just a spectator. The whole video just showing the process of showing his grief is just amazing
oh my gosh this is amazing!!!! the scene with will and techno playing as kids to the grave is breath taking and the progression is amazing. your amazing. thank you for making this art
This is one of the most beautiful animations I have ever seen and it brought me to tears. It's so powerful and the music really helps I was crying the first time I watched it, then I saw Fundy in one of the frames and was like "eEeeE Fundy :)"
this is one of the few animatics that actually gave me a clear insight on what the events of the smp would truly look/feel like. i got weirdly emotional watching it just now. very well done.
1:56 actually made me tear up. This scene is so well done. It makes me feel this bitter-sweet sadness idk it makes me feel the pain with him. Amazing job!
Ooh I love this animatic so much and it shows how Philza is processing his son's death, his guilt in assisting his suicide, and his grief of losing him. One character analysis I greatly reccomend is an analysis by the channel scrawls. Thanks so much for this gem!
This was very bittersweet for me, it felt like healing❤️🩹 I love how you portrayed Phil’s grief and guilt, and how he slowly accepts what happened. And him turning to Techno for support😔 that hurt. Thank you for this masterpiece!
Jesus you never cease to amaze with your incredible art work I'm struggling with drawing anatomy a lot so it's very inspiring to see your work and wanting to reach your level one day
You have no idea how many times I’ve replayed this, and I am extremely inspired to learn how to draw more, and better, and this makes me want to. Great job!
You know the most weirdly conveyed part of the dream smp is that philza has went through most of the five stages of grief. This animatic really captures that, good work dude.
Good lord am I emotional rn, SBI content never fails to make me cry tears of joy and rip my heart out simultaneously. Absolutely stunning work П.С.
I like to think Phil is the guy who says, "I failed my son once, He needed me and I wasn't there. I will adopt any lost and lonely children who need me. And I will not fail them."
This is an absolutely breath taking animatic. Your line work, use of framing, and story beats really make the emotions hit so much harder. This is one of my favorites yet. You’re awesome!!
I have never cried, when someone that I knew maybe I was close to died, but when something like this happens ,for some reason I tear up like, I just lost everything
I couldn't find any comment recognising the reference to the famous Russian painting “Ivan the Terrible and His Son Ivan” at 1:06. Such a fitting reference!
