Very good video. I was looking for "extra" tips for promoting "extra" blooms. I have grown Encores for 20 years here in the North Carolina Piedmont. I have 7 varieties, many rated for zone 6, the others 7-9, so when we get the sporadic winter with 0 degrees or lower temps and very hot summers, mine do just fine. Encore has added more varieties since you posted your video in 2019; they have 33 now. Encore advertises all as blooming THREE times per year; in spring, summer and fall, not just two. However, from my experience, even if you provide them ALL of the best conditions (sunlight, slightly acidic, well-drained soil, appropriate H2O amounts, depth and frequencies, timely and appropriate (early spring) fertilization and pruning, just a few bloom in summer (early summer), and just a modest amount. Making sure that the plants have appropriate phosphorous levels and a Ph about 5.5 to 6 (yes, that low!) has been my key to getting the most blooms, even from some Royalty growing in semi-shade, but with early morning sun...they face due East !! The other factor (that Encore reveals, but not readily) is most Encores require at least 3 to 5 years after initial panting (early fall is best) before they bloom twice or three times per season. It took 9 years and all the right conditions for my Lilacs to bloom in the fall, but when they did, they also put out a modest early summer bloom. They just got to get "all grown up" and get all the right conditions. Thanx again, and may my experience help others.

Wow that pink encore Azalea looks beautiful. I have a question, I hope you can help. just planted a 2 gallon encore Azalea, I am in zone 10 southern california. The azalea gets afternoon sun about 6 to 7 hours. Some of the leaves turned to an orange brownish color. Looks like it is starting at the center of the leaves. I am wondering if I am not watering enough or watering too much and this is the issue. Any suggestions? You mentioned it will eventually become drought tolerant but how many gallons of water should i shoot for weekly?

Hi! love ur info, however I'm confused, you said on bloom-a-thon ones last blooming in fall but soon after u say last is in 1st frost? ok, so I bought a 1gl or 1 ft azalea in SoCal, bloomed tottaly, I planted in the soil, but is the first blooming and we are in middle Spring. Shall I still expect another blooming in July, another in Spet. and the final in frost time which is actualy towards end year.Help me please. Thanks!

do I let the dead flowers to fall alone or shall I cut them right below the flower or pull them out...? Also is it thinning out same as cut the canopy? and does canopy includes the twigs with the flower of without the flower?

How are your azaleas doing - don't hear you talk about them. They do not take sun here in 8A (Texas) - just gonna try them in the North Garden.

Hi, in February 2019 we planted 6 of these encore azaleas. They get more than 6 hours of sun and have been fertilized in spring and late summer. We are zone 7b. They have never bloomed. I don’t know what to do to help them. Can you advise? Love all of your videos.

Do you prune them?
@charris721
@charris721 3 года назад
No, they haven’t been pruned. Last summer, if you remember , it was so dry that we watered just about every day and they grew about 6 inches and then this spring with all of the rain we’ve had they’ve grown several inches more. We have had no blooms. I am being patient, but hope to see some color this year.

Do they tolerate shade?
@GardeningwithCreekside
@GardeningwithCreekside 3 года назад
Not these varieties. There are some old-timey azaleas that do handle the shade quite well, like 'Formosa' azaleas.
