Mike, I am sorry but I own the company and when we have these type of scenes and recoveries it is ultimately my decision on how they are done. There is a lot of different ways you can do things but in the end if things go wrong they fall on me. Nobody else. I have been around this business since I was a baby and have as much heavy duty recovery training as anyone in the industry. You may not like how I do things but I can say in all the years we have been doing these recoveries that nobody has got hurt and haven't cause any additional damages. Not to mention, we spend half as much time tying the roadways up as other companies in the area. In the end, I pay all the company bills and make sure my drivers have top of the line equipment to do their jobs. Not being arrogant but when I am on scene it's going to be done my way. - Donnie

Everyone is always saying that you need a heavy duty wrecker. Well here’s a case that they needed a red kenworth 😂. Donny and Clint were making me nervous standing by the winch lines. I think it’s just they were in a hurry, and I’m sure they know what they’re doing. But accidents happen. How do you keep track of how many stress loads and how much of a load a winch line has had? They must have to be changed out.
@towtruckaj
@towtruckaj 3 месяца назад
You don't keep track of what loads the wire rope has had, you simply inspect it regularly to determine if its still safe to be using. Then on each big job like this you at least calculate a rough idea of resistance which was probably 50-60k while it wasn't rolling and around 80k when fully sunk in, once they got it rolling on its own the resistance goes way down to under 10k, They rigged two 3-1s which are at least a WLL of 33k each side if they have 5/8 wire rope, likely a little light on the initial pull to get it out of the hole unless they had thicker wire rope, but they are still well within the 240k breaking load limit.

Well you can’t fix stupid but you can buy it I guess
@campbellstowingtx
@campbellstowingtx 3 месяца назад
@@Marksummerman please tell me what was stupid? The spool is 85k . The winches on one heavy wrecker are 35k; the winches on the other heavy are 25k. The trucks have computer system that will not allow you to exceed the WLL. We were using 10 ton snatch blocks and the wire rigging were rated at 50k each . The one wrecker when you snatch block back on one winch ups the WLL to 70k pounds on one winch. With both done that’s 140k . The other heavy also had snatch block increasing one winch to 50k. Plus it’s second winch. There was nothing unsafe, or stupid. I would not stand back there running winch controls if I was worried about exceeded WLL of my equipment. I’ve worked very hard to build this company. 0 people hurt, 0 damaged done to recovered unit and 0 damages done to my equipment. So, can’t fix you intellectual shortfalls, but you can take medication.

Retired Tow operator here, Obviously recliner Quarterbacking here in my Retirement . I learned from the late Bill Jackson one of the advantages of a hydraulic wrecker is the use of the boom. Ie Use the boom’s ability to reel it in by the raising of the boom as in reeling a big game fish. You obviously were dead pulling it out of its sunken spot. So use the booms to reel it in while you”re winching. Good luck. I enjoy your videos

Cables dont just snap, They were within the breaking limits by far, And I believe they were also within the working load limit. 80k spool, Probably around 50-60k in resistance, maybe 80k at the initial pull when it was fully stuck, They have 3 lines each, The lines are at least 5/8 but could be thicker, 5/8 is 11,600 WLL, That is over 66k combined. The breaking strength is over 40k each line, combined they had a breaking strength of 240,000 pounds... Well within the limits of that wire rope. And interesting you say they should of called a crane because a crane would come out with the very same wire rope to lift it... How is it the wire rope on a wrecker will just snap at a moments notice but the cranes wire rope wont?
