I never heard of Linda till I saw a video today of the 1987 Grammies where Whitney acknowledged Linda whilst accepting an award. I know all the songs Linda wrote. What a talent.
Its easy to simply look at the singers that are on stage and think they are the ones that wrote the songs but there are lots of people behind these songs. We hear these songs and while we know that they are some of the greatest songs ever and we know the singers and worship them, We never really know who wrote the song until we research them. The last couple of years Ive done just that and it's really opened my eyes to so much talent that Ive never heard before. There are so many people in the background of all this music and people like Thom Bell and Linda Creed absolutely amaze me! That they can spit out the greatest lyrics like they did was nothing short of amazing.
I didn't know Linda, but Jean, I agree. Linda Creed was a treasure. I remember the day of her funeral. I was a snot-nosed wanna-be intern at WDAS Radio Station. The telephone rang off the hook all morning about Linda's service. May she R.I.P.
She is right up there with Ellie Greenwich (RIP), Pam Sawyer, Jackie DeShannon and Diane Warren as some of the best White Female R & B Songwriters. You Make Me Feel Brand New was used in a Commercial for Wool-Lite in The 1980's.
Many are unaware that Linda was not only just an amazing writer; She also provided background vocals on several of The Spinners’ classic albums in the 70’s as well. To me, Linda, Thom and The Spinners are the triple threat dream team!
Nobody would/could take a White Girl Seriously writing R & B Songs. In the future her Songs would reach a whole new generation of Fans. For example You Are Everything was not only sung by The Stylistics it was later covered by Marvin Gaye (RIP), and Diana Ross. In 2001 it was sung on The Finale of Pop Idol where Gareth Gates (The Runner Up), and Rachel Stevens (S Club 7). You Are Everything was the love theme for Kevin Arnold & Winnie Cooper on The Wonder Years. The Stylistics most notably Russell Tompkins was a major influence on Barry Gibb of The Bee Gees and Jordan Knight of New Kids On The Block. In later years, Simply Red did their Version of "You Make Me Feel Brand New". Before there was Dianne Warren there was her. Young Folks are discovering The Stylistics and they love it.
Thank you, LINDA CREED for doing your part to help tame and save mankind with your gift and talent. Your music started as the soundtrack to my once young life and still continues. Your legacy is sealed. In the meantime, I'll keep the music playing.
Thanks so much for enlightening us about the remarkable Linda Creed. Amazing and informative video for those of us who grew up and thorougly enjoyec the 70's music.
Sun18102020 :::1253::: Only songs of Linda Creed I heard on the Johnny Mathis album (vinyl) - I'm Coming Home. What a gem she is / was. Linda Creed you are Blessed. May you Rest in Peaceful Perpetual Light.
Mount Airy was actually a neighborhood inside (and bordering) the city limits of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Linda's high school, Germantown High, was IN Philadelphia. My high school, Central High School of Philadelphia regularly played Germantown High sports teams, as they were both in the then Philadelphia Public League, each being public high schools.
I remember watching Linda dance (in the Recreation Room opened after the first 20 minutes of a lunch period) after lunch at Leeds Jr. High in West Oak Lane (next to Mt. Airy). She had a swing and a rhythm that was unmistakable.
That may be true, but they were a pair. Thom has said that he worked with others, but he mostly worked with Linda Creed whom he called "Creed". You can bet your Bibby that Creed has influence in the lyrics. My comment is based on listening to Thom in an interview. R.I.P. Creed.
@Richard I don't see you contributing anything of Value (on RU-vid). I suppose your male modeling career is keeping you too busy to make ANY intelligent comments.
