Todd Howard seems like an evil super villain. He talks so smoothly and calmly, and every line he delivers sounds like he's hinting at something with it. Kind of spooks me.
I get that feeling that at any moment Todd Howard is gonna say: “Don’t use the word ‘Scrolls’ in the title of your game” And then he straight up kills notch...
Notch:"I saw a speedrun with someone beating Oblivion in like seven minutes or something-" Godd Howard:"Yeah, there was a g-gg... we call it a 'feature'"
Justin B Todd Howard stated at E3 that they started designing Fallout 4 in 2009, after 3. After reading and watching many interviews with bethesda and Todd, the way it works is that they have 2 projects, the main one where most of the focus is at, and then the side project that, after the main project is completed, will take its place. Its a really good tactic actually, but yes
+Simme Rocky LoL, wanted to say something similar... like, that 3 years ago...in time this interview took place, Todd secretly is making Fallout 4... and NOBODY KNOWS except for development team obviously ! Oh man, they are some sneaky developers :D
Honestly if I were in his position I'd be so worried about saying something stupid and ruining a massive connect for future shit. Like, imagine having the potential to team up with Todd on something, even if its just a texture pack...and you say something dumb and he just throttles you on camera before devouring your soul.
I've dreamed about skyrim before, and minecraft. But never Godd himself. You must be the prophet. Go. Go to every Wendy's and seek him out. If you find him...perhaps he will bestow upon you the sacred real trailer for TES6. Perhaps a free copy of Starfield. Perhaps just beat you over the head with a copy of skyrim.
is this why fallout 4 is horribly unbalanced and has boring quests, the story is just the opposite of fallout 3, instead of your dad leaving vault its your son leaving vault and he was taken. than you find him leader of some big project ringin any bells?
And more ideas Notch had one good games Todd had multiple best selling games under his belt. Don't get me wrong I appreciate mine craft the game, but Notch obviously is a one hit wonder
+Daniel Lopez I think it is worth mentioning that Notch's one-hit wonder generated him a personal net worth of $1.5 Billion dollars, while Todd Howard's income isn't even listed.
There's rarely any game dev's that openly state the games that inspire them, Ubisoft only mentioned Red Dead Redemption when people picked out the similarities. Todd straight away mentioned the inspirations.
You can tell how awkward it was when they realize they were accidentally mentioning and alluding to flaws in their games. Like oblivions balancing problem.
How does something like this even work? "Hey, I know you two are busy heads of your dev teams but can you both come into this room and talk to each while we film you?"
It's funny how those two where already discussing the Skyrim Minecraft mashup back then Right after Skyrim was released and to see those two together was pretty cool good video definitely worth watching
Is it just me, or does it look like Notch is a naïve young officer trying to interrogate a criminal mastermind played by Todd Howard and it appears that Tom is really the one with the control. That's the way it looks with the lighting on Todd, anyway!
4:34 Notch: I started roleplaying Todd: THATS THE POINT Also Todd: (Stares at him with the eyes of death for the rest of the fucking interview) Notch: *Is nervous*
It's really funny how they (Bethesda) went completely off their philosophy for Fallout 4. Todd's talking about how their general directive of giving the player tons of options and letting them do what they want is what the majority of their fans want. He even mentions how having Fallout 3 end was something that the fans didn't like, and how they thought it was good, but it doesn't quite work out. Then Fallout 4 comes along and what do they do? They quadruple-down on everything. Sure, the game doesn't "end" when you finish the story, but the entire game IS the story. All of the factions are firmly embedded within the main story. They give your character attachments that are embedded within the story. Most of the main NPCs are discovered while you're going through the motions of completing the main story. Like half the companions have a vested interest in the main story. You can't escape it. I really hope they learned their lesson with FO4 and they take a few steps back. The fans do not want voiced main characters. We want to read our responses and offer supplement our own internal monologue. We want to have a game full of option side quests, not a game that is full of one huge main quest and a few side quests here and there. We want to explore interesting towns and settlements and find interesting and unique people who give us quests with various outcomes and unique stories. We don't want to build half the wasteland and do tons of repetitive "radiant" quests. Bethesda needs to return to the philosophy Todd spoke about in this video.
Fighting Mechanics...Skyrim: I can choose from shooting the elements at my enemies, confusing them, turning undead, cutting throats, using poisons, crushing them with a war hammer, cutting off their head with a great sword, using two one handed weapons, or avoiding it all together. Minecraft : Spam left click. Being creative...Minecraft: I can build a house, a castle, anything. I can construct machines using pistons and redstone to perform a specific task. Make a farm. Skyrim: I can spend thirty minutes trying to put that damn model ship on my shelf in the thieves guild. I can spend $40,000 on a house.Crafting...Minecraft: Awesome.Skyrim: Awesome.
Watching this again 12 years later, was such a special time in gaming history! I really enjoyed both these games and were very influential. Can see now why Skyrim added the Notch pickaxe on top of the one mountain!
todds confuseing he makes me think these things 1. he's gonna kill notch 2. he's gonna take his shirt off and jump over the table and do stuff with notch 3. he's gonna start a game war called the skycraftian wars you never really know with him
It's interesting watching this now and knowing that Bethesda is actually coming out with a Skyrim for consoles that will have mods. Like for the past who knows how long Todd's been wanting mods on the console and now his dream is coming and has come to fruition.
TODD HOWARD ,American god of role playing and adventure. NOTCH, god of creativity. GABE NEWELL, god of pc gaming, HIDETAKI MYAZAKI, Japanese god of role playing and adventure.
TheRedAzuki Bethesda = cool nerd people who make video games. Zenimax = businessmen, lawyer, accountant. People who gamers usually avoid like they're radioactive, which could be true.
The Sage and the Savant. Notice how this Notch fellow is giving away things? He is very honest and open, and responds rapidly (may be editing) to Todd. In turn, Todd Howard talks slowly, and discusses other games, but shares only what he intents on sharing. He is in charge in this conversation. My advice to people: be Todd Howard. Know what your ideals are, learn what people want to hear (by listening to them), ask the right questions and don't share your interests with just anyone.
+Very, Insanely, Ridiculously High Fructose Corn Syrup Ummmm.... they are two different kinds of games you know I like them both for what they are. Skyrim is an RPG with an actual end here are people who tell you how to fight + voice acting and such. minecraft is a here you are alone no one else except derpy villagers that you never find HAVE FUN! No real end no voice acting no point accept to do what you want.
+Very, Insanely, Ridiculously High Fructose Corn Syrup There great games for very different reasons. I don't think you can say one is better than the other.
