I've been using Notepad++ for years and thought this "Intro for Beginners" video wouldn't offer me much. I wasn't familiar with Joe's videos, but stumbled across this one on Notepad++. I decided that I could speed up the playback speed to save time and give it a quick look. I'm glad I did! Joe pointed out a few tricks that I hadn't become aware of, which will help me save time. Looking forward to more of his videos, particularly ones related to coding tools and languages.
Great tutorial. I just wanted to let you know the easiest way to open a new document is to click on the blank space to the right of the last tab. It will create a new document tab.

How do you get the collapsing function at 0:45? It's not showing for me, and if it's possible, I would like to have it work when writing something else than code (as well).
This has to be the BEST video ive seen on youtube for a quick leaning on Note pad ++ especially as a beginner. His voice is very ........consistent and not all crazy fast talking like other videos other people make. He takes his time AND GOES SLOW at a pace but not too slow to the point where its agonizing. very nice particularly useful was the CTRL-Q shortcut for toggling comments on and off; way simpler than the menu commands for comments which always struck me as way too complicated many thanks for sharing your knowledge
I hit the like thumbs up, but this is NOT for BEGINNERS. I don't know anything about "Notepad++" Especially how to use it with Google Chrome Developer? Starting with the basics of HTML.
I just bought Notepad today, and I have no idea of how to use it . I had thought that I just dragged the material to be edited into Notepad, but that's apparently wrong. Python? Hell, I just want to correct spelling and punctuation. (10/1/23)

All i want to know is if I can use it like I used to use Notepad- just to type out a page of something, more or less as one would on a typewriter. And if so, how?? Where to find that info?? No luck trying to figure it out on Notepad++ . Want Notepad back...

I just found your video in 2020 & it's really nice but actually i was looking for it's "how to install notepad++ with all options explained during installation process" i.e context menu, auto completion file, plugins etc, Don't use %appdata option, allow plugin to be loaded... etc" what are they and how to properly install it.... can you do a video on it... Hi!! I am using the Notepad ++ text editor but it does not recognize the "src" and "url" in the @ font-face of the css code to import custom fonts. What can I do to solve this problem?
Hello Joe, Thanks for sharing this video. I am not a programmer and I have no idea what I am doing when it comes to coding. I do however need to ask what language coding would I need if i wanted to remove tabs from wordpress? There is a tab called "Additional Description" in my uniform clothing website that I can't get rid off but was told that I can use notepad++ to remove it. Thanks in advance :)
I'm not very familiar with WordPress, but I believe it's written in PHP. Notepad++ is a text editor for editing code. That's about all I can tell you. Good luck.
@Jeo James, I am struggling with notepad ++ to create a text-based adventure game but instruction videos about it are small and they teach the same thing but teak it in between or they made an episode 1 but never made an episode 2 about 7 years. I just download notepad ++ and this is pissing me off I want to be a game developer here can you help me, please?
@@oggiai Yeah, how in the hell you code choices in notepad ++ it seems these youtube instructions are too fast or too slow or even not enough info. Why in the hell people make text-based instructions and they make only one bloody episode and stop making them. I tell that pissed me off because I only know the basics now. Do you know how to do theses can make a couple vids of theses so I can make theses because I want to have fun and make a little bit of money you know time is tough?
I'm using Triller which makes music Videos and the filter packs use a file filters.json. I wish I knew how to understand it more hopefully this will help
It’s probably a pdf or word format. You can’t open those in a text editor. There is no converter either, except saving the document as a text file from Word.

I use a console window for that. Specifically, I use ConEmu in Windows to run my Python and Java code. If you're using Python you can use Notepad++ to write/edit code, and use ConEmu or some other console window to run the code (which is what I do), or you could you an IDE like PyCharm that does both. If you are already using Notepad++ and ConEmu or equivalent but are looking for some shortcuts to run the code in the console directly from Notepad++ I believe that exists but I don't use it.
+libertyunderlaw yes, English. No, as far as I know there's no special language or tool for pseudo code. I have used some special tools for class diagrams though
+joseph dunn oh, I think you're asking how to view the HTML code rendered in a browser. You could either upload your HTML file to a web server, or if you will do ongoing development on your laptop then you should install WAMP on your laptop, which is kind of a virtual PHP server that runs on a Windows laptop or MacBook.
+Your average Brit & Whovian I know you can run web code directly from Notepad++ (e.g. HTML, PHP, JavaScript) as it can pop open a browser to render the page. But for Python I use a separate console window to run code. And for Java I compile and run the code in a separate console window.
+GustasZGaming %0 Notepad++ is a text editor, like Microsoft Notepad or Wordpad. Except that it has a bunch of additional features specifically for software developers. So if you're not a programmer you won't get it.
Joe James: Can you please help me... I just started using Notepad ++ and I wanted to take all my microsoft word documents and search for /archive and replace it with /archive/filter-by/video and yes it did it but, when I go and open any of the files in the folder, I get an error screen saying "WORD EXPERIENCED AN ERROR TRYING TO OPEN THE FILE, TRY THESE SUGGESTIONS" and it lists *check the file permissions for the document or drive *make sure there is sufficient free memory and disk space *open the file with the text recovery converter What do I do now? Please Please Please help me- I am not proficient in using Notepad++. Thanks a million in advance for your help.
+joseph dunn I have now idea how to fix that. My video shows how to edit software code in N++. I wouldn't recommend trying to edit Word docs in N++ because Word is a proprietary format, not a text document.
I do not recommend this, it gave me a virus after installing, it made it so that i was not able to open my files. I had to factory restart my PC after downloading.
