I’ve started playing violin for the first time, I’m 2 month 2 weeks now and your videos are IMMENSELY HELPFUL I am having difficulties reading Music notes , I have a teacher but I also want to study and learn the best I can.
I just stumbled across this absolutely benevolent channel too. I really hope he's doing well out there. I can tell he's a great person and wonder to be around I am sure
I am a self learner for the last 6 years. I have done lot of research In learning the violin. I mostly play by ear. I was keen to learn the third position fingering. Most of the RU-vid tutoring shows how you get to 3rd position from the first position the rest of of the finger positions are not correctly shown. I came across violin fingering chart which shows all 3 positions. After watching your tutorial I was convinced the fingering positions for G, D & A , E agree with the chart. Thanks for highlighting the information.
Learning the violin is hard, but when I watched your videos, it made me learn faster. It was easy to understand. God bless you bro :) thanks for the series. Come back soon !!! BTW I’ll be the new Andre Rieu :D wish me luck
You've uplifted my spirit to have passion for violin again after how many years God knows how, your teachings are well explained and detailed. All the best sir.
Thank you so much! I have not played my violin in almost 20 years! (Hard to imagine it’s been that long!) I was playing songs by muscle memory; not recalling notes and finger placement, I started to RU-vid and found YOU!!! Thanks to your videos, I feel my confidence and love for this beautiful instrument being reborn!!! I can’t tell you the immense about of joy you have brought me...not enough “thank you’s“ could I say to express my gratitude!
So brilliant a person,, to half spent the time to help me people,, proves there are good people,, started music at 64,,brass now at 66 started violin,, god bless you, brilliant teacher.
Your videos are THE best..... i come here on purpose cuz i know how efficient ur teaching is.... In fact i gave u two likes. one from me and another from my dads acc. i hope you continue with more tutorials. Thank you Master!!!
So glad I found you. I hope you continue your series. I have learned so much from your videos, it's amazing. You give so much info in a way that is easy to fully comprehend the theory and application. You also make it fun. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
Excellent Video .. you are really a good teacher .. I am learning positions from you only … now I am clear in first position and 2nd from your previous videos … it a time for 3rd position.. thank you very much great job .. big like
I think it's the best way to fix all the notes on my violin. I knew them but I was unsure how to make a fingers properly to play some mesaure if I found two sharps or flats. It's not easy to think and do a lot of things at the same time ( good sound, fingers position, the bow..) Now, I did the exercise with 2 sharps and I'm so happy. Than you a lot and now I'm waiting for more exercises!!! please!!
Wow, congratulations! That is not easy to play! Can you try an A major scale (f# c# and g#? Just one octave :) and I'll be impressed. Ascending and descending
( a major scale)ok. I did it in the first position because it was simple. In the 3rd I was a little bit unsure, but I did! i put the second finger and compare the sound on the next open string ..so in this it way it was easier . from the 1st finger on G string, I change in third on G string and arrive to A on E string.I don't have a lot of time to study but i will follow you! thanks!!
@@joannakucia36 Amazing! A pity you can't give it more time, because with the way you practice I think you are understanding this very well! You will be an incredible violin player fast!!
Three questions to you sir... 1)How can you play more than twelve notes for any scales? 2)Notes shown in first position are different in second & third position. Why? 3)Zooming out notes is easier to understand better...yes or no?
1) You just keep going up the scale. On my videos you go further than just one octave. For this position changes are important. 2) The notes are actually exactly the same it's the fingers you use on them that change. 3) I am not sure I understand this question.
Hello I love your channel, please we need more videos, you don't know how important it is to have a didactic teacher, funny and with Spanish translation at the same time? I am from Argentina but I live in Australia, I am learning not only violin but improving my English with you, when I do not understand I turn to subtitles. There are many channels like that, but not like your channel. You must know. I hope you understand my English hehe Thank you Danu
I'm from Buenos Aires! I am glad you're learning violin AND english! That is an honor!! All the best of luck to you down there in Australia, how is it there?
Alguien debe conocer me imagino.
your videos are very helpful and ive been wondering why you haven't posting a video since 2019. well i hope you're doing great. i have violin exam in a week and im currently studying the music theory. i'll let you know when i passed the exam because i really helped by your videos. you're a great teacher, thank you
I've had 2 significant deaths in my family that put my life on standstill, I will resume making videos someday soon though. Thank you for your nice comment and let me know how it went!
As we go to higher position, the spaces between notes shrinks..Requires a lot of practice to find them intutionally :3 Your videos really guided me as a begginer.. I owe you a lot❤
Omg thank you so much!! I have a friend who has been playing a year shorter then me but can already play 3rd position when I couldn’t so I was ashamed (tho I shouldn’t be) but now I am proud for being able to master 2nd and 3rd Position in a day!! Thank you! I subscribed btw
Great video. Awesome tool and diagram for learning. Great for whole class I'm sure. So my question is. I literally want to memorize every note in 3rd position. 1st position i have memorized. I realized my 3rd finger knows F# in the 3rd position from practicing some famous songs. Will these scales give me that kind of memorization?
yes absolutely, but. The most important thing to remember is that the right way to learn them is NOT to assign certain notes to certain fingers (your 3rd finger is NOT an F#) but learning where the note is on the violin fingerboard, regardless of which finger you play it with (The F# is just THERE). This may sound harder in the beginning but in the long run it will make your position learning much easier and much much faster, it will allow you to play any position at any time without thinking too much about it. This is the way, I have spoken ;)
@@jamesbondaygee That is impossible to say, do it until you understand it and know where the notes are. After that, a refresher once a week wouldn't hurt.
you are a amazing I didn't know how to start learning with correct steps until I watched your lessons Thank you very much 🌹🌹 Could there be a video about vibrato?
Please for example on the string of E, it is necessary to count how much centimeter or minimeter between the note B and the note C #. how much between the note C # and the note D and also between D and D #
I understand what you´re saying Martine, but no, that is not the way. Play the notes while I am playing them in the video and make sure they sound the same. Everyone has different finger sizes and even the violin may be different, so giving you an exact measurement in cm or mm is impossible. Also the notes get closer and closer the higher up you are on the violin neck. What you have to do is play along and make sure your note sounds the same as in the video. Your fingers will learn the distance by themselves.
Thank you very much for this video . but to mark my violin well I would like to be on distance in centimeters between the notes for the third position. thank you for the answer.
If you mean the stickers on the violin, then have it done by a luthier or a music store (a violin store would be the best) You can also try finding the correct note, mark that spot and put the sticker on it.
I started it and will finish it, but it would also be a very good exercise if you try to figure out 4th, if you can do the first 3 positions, you can do 4th 5th and 6th
@@measurebymeasure3605 yeah I did something, but I want to be sure where to put my fingers on 4,5,6 and maybe 7 position. So pls make tutorial don't get down.
Thanks for the information . Why is that many RU-vid tutors are showing different 3rd position finger placements comparing to your demo. Eg.on your demo finger positions on A&E different to some of other tutors. On others they have the same finger pattern for all 4 strings eg . Fingers 1. 2. 3&4 together.. can you please confirm which pattern is correct.
I got an question, so does all your 3 videos cover all the notes and positioning on the violin? And if I can do everything from all 3 videos, does mean that "I can play violin"?
It does not cover all the positions, there are generally speaking 7 positions but the first through 3rd are very important and the most used. Once you get to higher positions you play by feel and ear more than memorizing every single note. The first 3 positions are enough to make you a very decent intermediate violin player and you'll be able to play most orchestral works.
my mum just got a violin for me by force without even telling me, now i'm expected to play it. please do make more on how to properly play it bc im still stuck💀
you will get it, and your mom will regret forcing you to play violin ;) On the other hand, give it an honest try while you're at it... you will have a lot of fun!! More vids coming soon!
Hi! I am an 8th grader, and I have no idea what 5 th position notes look like! I'm trying out for chamber in Highschool, and need to get 1st chair! Help! :D
hi miracle, I can't make a vid on 5th nor should I. If you can play 3rd and even 4th, you can definitely play 5th and figure it out. If you have any questions please ask away, I want to help you in any way I can! But remember, even if you don't succeed at first, the true test is if you will still play violin after a defeat. Only the people that do, are the ones that become great violin players.
There definitely won't be a 5th and I am torn on making a 4th position video. The main reason being that at this point I think it would be more helpful to a violin player to let them figure 4th position out. what's your thought?
@@measurebymeasure3605 we may be able to figure out but if we make any mistakes and continuing with wrong practice is very risky for long term playing and it's very to get out of intonation on violin
@@shubhamchavan9726 Yes I agree, but 4th position is already more advanced, I will make a 4th video but on 5th you're on your own ;) It's also very important to listen to one's own mistakes and you'll know when your intonation is off
@@measurebymeasure3605 I hope I can figure out 5th position, but anyway right now I am practicing 2nd and 3rd position and it'll take some time. I will be waiting for the video of 4th position
Great, but there is a question. When you start playing an instrument, you look at the neck not from above but along it, then it is very difficult to put your fingers on the right note correctly. This is the only instrument when playing on which the blind and the sighted will be almost in equal position. So it's useless to learn all these notes, no one teaches notes on the guitar - the correct distance between notes is important. On the violin -anologically
yes absolutely. On the violin you use your ears more than your eyes to tell if you're playing the right note. The best thing you can do is not to look at the fingerboard at all. The exact position of a note can change on every violin, if the bridge is not in exactly the same position as in another violin then the notes might change, albeit slightly. Practice with your ears, if it sounds right, it's right.
no, I am planning on doing a 4th but after that you are on your own. Once you understand up until 3rd you shouldn't have too much trouble figuring out the rest.
I will do a 4th still but I really think if you managed to learn 3rd position you can definitely play 4th 5th and on. But I am glad you're asking for it, it means my vids help some?
@@measurebymeasure3605 are you going to make more videos?? Your videos really help me a lot and I hope you continue because these position videos really help me.
