Good day, everyone.
I gathered all of my KTC tools for this feature video. Nothing to bedazzle your eyes like their Nepros line of tools tends to do to people, but let's not forget that their standard lineup is their core business.
These are tools I've accumulated throughout the last 11 years. Not an in-depth review on any one tool, but just wanted to show a small sample of tools from a tool company that's been in business for 70 years now. I'm pretty certain that you'll find at least one tool in this collection that you'd find interesting!

What incredible tools. I've only recently found out about them and just ordered their 90 tooth next ratchet as my first tool buy from Nepros. Which I call more of a work of art than tools. Just look at all of what went into them. 10 steps over and beyond anything America would do. I don't know much about their plies but I would like to see how they compared with Knipex who is arguably the best pliers manufacturer there ever has been. Them wooden screwdriver set makes me drool all over the place every time I see them..

Those damn co workers! My shop started using my tool box as the community "free tool bin" when I'm not there or working in the office. Out of the 200+ wrenches I have, I can't even make 1 full set! I'm missing 8-12 in every single socket set I have. Most quarter inch are gone, and all the popular half inch too. Absolutely rabbid, lay a tool down for 1 second and it winds up in their box. Starting to crack down now, just bought a locking tool cart. My favorite is when I have to borrow something and they say "you bring this right back now" and it has my name or my dad's name marked on it. It would be funny if it didn't hurt so damn much.
@chriscas-ToolAficionado
@chriscas-ToolAficionado 3 года назад
That hurts! It always irks me when someone borrows a tool and they bring it back dirty. When I return someone else's tool, I make sure I hand it back cleaner then when I got it, and hand it back in person, with clean rag in hand. Reality is, not everyone views tools like us tool enthusiasts. 😂

UDC makes the best magnetic pickup tools. Loads of American companies rebrand their stuff, but I never expected a Japanese company to do so.

They sure do! Since you brought it up....I myself found that I mis-informed. The USA sourced magnetic pick-up tools/inspection mirrors KTC sells are sourced from Carica. I've never been able to locate Carica's website or find much information. I know that some Snap-on dealers sold them here in Western Canada for many years, under the Carica name. Hey Chris I was looking at getting a screwdriver set with JIS/DIN/ISO tips. I was wondering if you have any recommendations. I was going to get Nepros’s Wooden handle set but then I found out that they are Phillips/"their own standard" and I'm not sure if they will work with JIS screws. I’m looking at Vessel/Sunflag right now for alternatives.
@chriscas-ToolAficionado
@chriscas-ToolAficionado 3 года назад
If you've considered getting the Nepros wooden handle cross-recess screwdrivers, I'd try them out. They machine the tips according to their own specifications; not necessarily to comply with any international or domestic standards. Not all fasteners are produced equally so, my suggestion has always been to have a selection to chose from. Mate the best fitting screwdriver tip for the fastener you're dealing with.

I read on the Wiha comments that the IP for ratchet heads wrenches are owned by a TW company/person (Googled: Chin-Shun Cheng?), thus, almost all ratchet wrenches have TW origin (regardless of the company). So far, I've not seen a non TW mass produced ratchet wrench. If anyone has a non-TW ratchet wrench, I would like to know.

Bobby Hu is the inventer with a lot of patents under his belt. He started the wave of the modern day, forged ratcheting wrenches, starting in the late 90s / early 2000s. He worked at Lea Way, which is now part of APEX Tool Group. He started his own company called Hi-Five, and continues to produce many innovative tools and fulfills many international orders, for tool companies around the world. Look at Gedore (German), Snap-on, Proto, and SK for USA-made forged ratcheting wrenches. There are a couple Japan-made forged ratcheting wrenches (TOP and MCC come to my mind), but they are coarse-tooth.

Are there any Japanese made combination wrenches sold in a full set? I have seen most dont even sell large “full” kits and ones that do skip some sizes (probably never/hardly used in Japan) Similar question for ratcheting wrenches? Are there “affordable” options? Or is everything made in Taiwan?
@chriscas-ToolAficionado
@chriscas-ToolAficionado 2 года назад
Pretty unlikely to find sets sold in Japan with no skips. You'll have to order the missing sizes separately, meaning there's no space available for those additional wrenches in the tray/holder/tool roll. All the ratcheting wrenches (72t and up) sold by Japanese tool manufacturers are imported from Taiwan.
@bluezklewz8351
@bluezklewz8351 2 года назад
@@chriscas-ToolAficionado Appreciate the rely! Yeah I kinda figured that would be the case. Makes sense since there are fasteners that are never user in Japan. My follow up would be, do they even sell individual wrenches of those missing sizes? Do you have any recommendations for a non ratcheting combo wrench set made in Japan in the $100ish range? Ratcheting combo wrenches in the $150ish range?
@chriscas-ToolAficionado

@@bluezklewz8351 I'm not sure what range of sizes you're looking for, but I'm assuming a set from 8mm to 22mm? You'll be able to get the missing sizes...but depending on brand, they may not have a 9mm and 20mm.

Yes, I've sourced from many places over the years for Japanese tools. Knowing the Japanese language and travelling to Japan has made it very easy for me. Thankfully, in recent years, the Global Rakuten marketplace and Amazon Japan became available for individuals without any Japanese language ability. Unfortunately, the English version of the Global Rakuten marketplace shut its doors indefinitely, which leaves Amazon.jp as one of the most popular sources. If you don't want to support the giant that Amazon is, there's Ebay stores like NinjaToolsJapan (based in Japan), Factory Gear (based in Japan), Frankstools (based in New Hampshire), Palmac.net for Ko-ken (based in Massachusetts), IdakaAmerica for Tone and other Japanese brands (based in Kentucky).

I should clarify...I said Ebay stores, but only NinjaToolsJapan is an Ebay store. Factory Gear is a major tool store with multiple locations within Japan, one in Taiwan, and two in Thailand. They sell KTC/Nepros, Ko-ken, Fujiya, 3.Peaks, Engineer, and many other Japanese brands. They don't have an English version site, but they can manage English inquires and can ship worldwide. Email Mr. Yoshimoto (yoshimoto@f-gear.co.jp) with the part # and quantity you're interested in. He will provide a quote with estimate shipping cost based on your shipping destination. Frankstools might the only online tool store today selling a variety of Japanese tool brands. Not the best online storefront layout but here's the link: www.frankstools.com/ Word of advise: contact him whether the item listed is in stock or not. If an item isn't in stock, it may take a while to get. Palmac is the premiere Ko-ken dealer in North America. They should be able to help you out with all things Ko-ken. Use coupon code: MrSubaru5 Idaka America is a question mark at this time. I googled and it says they are permanently closed. Could just try emailing Jeremy: jeremy@idakaamerica.com Cheers.

Sold by SEK (Suekage Tools) with part # 9700000 Note that because of the coil spring, the tools you place won't be perpendicular to the rail itself. Also, it's not really suitable for small (8mm and under) and larger (21mm and over) wrenches....but that also depends on the relative thickness of the wrenches, which can vary depending on brand.
