Nothing But Tank Engines !

Our first video of 2019 sees us pay tribute to the smaller preservation stars which frequent our preserved railways and from time to time appear on the big railway. The compilation features a heavy Great Western flavour with 11 out of 14 locomotives on show all of Great Western origin. The video also features an array of double headers which make for a fine sight, especially on the mainline ! In this video there are 36 scenes spread across 8 preserved railways, as always captions feature in the video.
I hope you enjoy the compilation !

I really enjoy your RU-vid vids, they are well shot with great sound, they are "I think" some of the best collections of restored railway engines on RU-vid, please keep them coming

A wonderful selection of locos working hard. Much more impressive than when they are coasting.

Great exhaust sound of 0-6-0's slightly uneven at times reminds me of galloping horses.

Absolutely fantastic, thank you so much for all the work! I'm in love. 😍 The American locomotives feel so industrial, while these are so quaint and have such a lovely charm! When I picture a train, it's these. We gotta bring these back.

Not real, but the engines are based on real ones. I believe some of the engines here are like Thomas's friends. Duck and Oliver came from the GWR, so I bet each one's basis is here.

I will always love tank engines, they are my favorite type of locomotive. They're the ones that do all the work, yet they get little to no fame. Amazing video here showing all different types of them! My favorite part were those two Panniers double-heading that passenger train at 60 mph

I was probably 4 when I discovered tank engines because of Thomas videos. I also found a book called The Little Engine That Could and I suspect the title engine of being a tank engine because of the bunker. I gained that knowledge from those Thomas videos I loved as a child and am now very nostalgic about. When I say videos, I mean the ones I had to rewind, as someone who grew up with the models.

What a splendid and meaningful theme for a compilation! Many thanks, Liam and Phil, for such an enjoyable video. My favourites are the cab glow at 24:25, the SVR starting about 29:50 and all of the 'Ramblers'. Excellent captioning throughout. Kind regards, Bob.

None have survived into preservation, sadly. I've heard rumors that they're gonna rebuild one at some point, but I'm not sure whether that's true or not. As of now, the LMS Jinties are the closest we have to the E2s

I enjoy something like this. However, something scary is on the delivery cards for me. You've heard of the 1361 Class 0-6-0 Saddle Tank Engine. 1363 is preserved (GWR Green Livery) at Didcot Railway Centre. In model form (00 gauge status), a deceased sister of 1363 is due to be delivered to my door from Kernow Model Rail Centre. This deceased sister engine, no. 1361, is in Photographic Grey Livery. I've already thought of a name for her: Spookie the Ghost Engine. A proper Ghost Train video is coming soon to Kelly Ashford Trains, my RU-vid channel. Prepare to be frightened out of your wits.

I enjoy these steam engine videos and appreciate them very much. However, the "Tank" Engines is lost on me. Seeing the title of this video, had I not had the picture, I would have assumed something about military tanks. Is the term British? As a Yankee, I have never seen it before.
@justsomerandompleb
@justsomerandompleb 5 лет назад
It's an old-fashioned British term for steam engine, I believe. Made popular by the children's books/cartoons "Thomas the Tank Engine"
@josephkarl2061

Tank engines don't have a separate tender, but instead carry their coal and water on the body of the locomotive. They were used chiefly to drive suburban passenger trains, where space (as in train length) was a concern. Also, they were happy pushing or pulling a train, which not all steam locomotives could reliably do.
@rishavbanerjee1371

No, a tank engine is an engine that Carrie's it's own coal and water. Even america has tank engines.
@eifionjones559
@eifionjones559 5 лет назад
clue is in the word tank , the locomotive has it's own water tank

The Central Railroad of New Jersey had some tank engines but they were very rare in the U.S., where their short range (typically 50 miles) would have made them unsuitable for most lines. Pictures of CRNJ tank locos seem scarce on the web but try www.google.com/search?q=central+railroad+of+New+Jersey+tank+locomotives&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=JN7hOeIFSC9uzM%253A%252C-k7lPBMiEsMfkM%252C_&usg=AI4_-kR_33Pjzpm8HUmQEkrI2h08eXOBlQ&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiG8t2en9_fAhWQSxUIHQ63Cu0Q9QEwAXoECAUQBg#imgrc=X7jDMLfGD-YlqM:

This is what I think, I think it might be for people who want to go on special train rides so it's a "brake van special" sort of thing
