Nothing is taking the apple approach of not using numbers for example apple don't say ipad 10 they say ipad (10th generation) just like that ear is ear (3rd generation)

Except it doesn’t actually say that when you go to their site etc it just says Ear then Ear 2 lol

I also hate the Nothing Ear (a) case. The design is ugly and looks cheap.

It threw me off completely when initially unboxing. Coming from ear 1 I didn't expect it. Even comparing them to cmf buds, I would go with those over ear a personally.
