I do love the fact that the videos really contain everything. When things don't go right...we get to see those too. And if I am honest, when a pro gets things wrong, it's a lesson for us all not to take things for granted, and to check. Makes the vidfeo even more informative than normal. Gonna put it down to it being a Friday, end of day and a job over running...but. I see no brake cleaner here. I feel cheated.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that has to deal with end of the day Friday dysfunction. For example we order parts at 3:00 and the driver shows up at 5:30 while I’m standing there wanting to go home and enjoy my weekend. And I’m lucky if it’s the right part. If it were Wednesday at noon, the driver would show up 10 minutes after ordering the parts and they would be the correct parts.

Sometimes people do jobs that are outside of mental capacity and don't take the time and pride to do the job right make sure they provide mechanics with the right parts to complete the job a lot of people out there like that and it's very frustrating been there done that and all you got to do is work with the proper parts when they provided because I've had people walk in my shop again and quitting time and I want me to do something on the lathe and when you start to cut you cannot stop so you just got to ride it out finish the job in persevere and do it right and then go home and enjoy your weekend have a good weekend thank you everybody

It's something that if you don't know Chevy's you wont know to look for it. All electric fan engines have the larger radiator. The majority of engines minus the Z71 platform and the 6.0 and 8.1 all have the smaller radiator. But GM has made things so easy to make upgrades and parts interchangeable that the smaller radiator uses the fan bolt holes while the fan shroud uses the big radiator bolt holes. Honestly they made die hard Chevy owners like myself have a massive amount of parts that we should never have to look far. Now if I was working on something I don't always work on I'm sure I would run into a similar issue. Love the entertainment Ray keep it up!

This reminds me of when a friend of mine and me were going to change the blower motor on his old Volvo 240. None of us had done anything like that before, and after a lot of trial and error, having to remove the center console, radio, levers and whatnot we were finally able to change the thing. After hours of reassembly, we noticed that we forgot a single part that was supposed to go right next to where the blower motor was, so... we had to do the entire disassembly over again. All in all, the job took us eight hours!

DAYS WITHOUT A MISTAKE: 0 You are now tied with me. I suspect that manipulating the lights, cameras and clever reparte may casue a bit of distraction, so mistakes may pop up just a wee bit more frequently. It was not clear to me whether the last radiator had a drain and I have not seen this mentioned in the other comments, but the drain may have been the first flag saying you should compare the parts because something is different here.

Red flags can be very small. He said he felt uncomfortable about it. That may have been the time to think a moment, although with the camera running and click ticking, that may figure into it. He was also surprised that it showed up so quickly. Maybe another red flag. Being a Friday, the customer might have been pressuring the shop to get it back for the weekend, rather than waiting for Monday.

Ray seems like one of the most honest mechanics I've seen. I always do my own work because every place I've been tries to rip me off. One places wanted to charge me 800$ to change a motor mount on a 2014 1.8L ford focus. I did myself. Literally took me more time to air up my compressor then the 5 minutes it took to swap the motor mount. The motor mount was the one on the passenger side on top. The mount only costed me like 70$

Happy Father's Day Ray and to all the dads! At the risk of sounding foolish, is there a reason all refrigerant doesn't have UV dye in it? I figure all systems are going to develop a leak eventually. I keep my engine compartment clean so any leaks show up quickly, I would think the dye would make it easier to notice.

Cost. Automakers will spend a lot of time and money to shave 1/10 of a cent off the production and installation cost of an armrest. Because it "pays off" when you're making millions of the same vehicle. Plus, most vehicles won't need A/C service within the warranty period, and that's one more thing to push someone to buy a new car instead of keeping their old one.

I have installed many, many new radiators over the years and I have always flushed the cooling system before installing the new radiator. With out not knowing how much stop leak the person put in the system, this would have been the ideal time to flush the system. Get all the not only stop leak out, but being an older vehicle, getting any of the old contaminates out. New radiator, clean cooling system. But Ray, very good video showing the diy'ers the correct way to install a new radiator and thermostat. Very easy job.

Good morning Ray and happy Father's Day !! As usual I read all the comments and people like to throw their two cents in needless to say anyone who says I would have checked the part first blah, blah. On a Friday after a long work week I would have done the same thing 😃 bummer. Thank you for sharing your expertise and your attention to detail (changing the thermostat) you are a rockstar enjoy a few frosty adult beverages and relax with your family 👍🇺🇸💪💯

You are a true craftsman. Very well stated. Your replacement of the thermostat because stop leak was used. Very well put. Some would ignore that detail. You looked for that detail to solve the customers issues the best. Been to the fast fix wanna be shops. Stopped going. When a car that had zero problems started getting more problems. Could argue just timing. Or could argue they just fixed some but not all. They lost a customer. Just because they didn’t try to add those parts on. You are speaking the truth.

Man, just from watching these videos I have learned quite a bit.I learned how to change O2 sensors from a video with a corvette. Today I learned how to change a radiator. I am not confident on how to change brakes, but I think I could change a lower control arm... if I had the tools to do so. Looking forward to getting a Mustang project car. Gonna have fun with it no matter what. Thank you Ray, I will continue to enjoy your videos. Keep em coming.

As you just mentioned you can use a fuel line type disconnect tool to remove the lines without losing spring clips on the trans cooler lines. On my own vehicles I delete the radiator trans cooler lines and install a dedicated trans cooler that won't flood your transmission with coolant if it fails. Transmission clutches are held together with a water based glue so any introduction of water based liquids means replacing the transmission every time, no exceptions.

I first suspected that it was the wrong part when I saw the Rad bolts going into the Fan shroud bolt holes, plus the extra room Ray had when positioning the clamp on the lower hose that was in tight quarters when removing. Friday evenings and Monday mornings get us all.

Your comments at 10:41 are spot on. On my central AC system in MA I had a leak. Nobody could find the leak because every time they tried they had gauges hooked up to the system. Finally my next door neighbor, who was an HVAC person, found it. Only took 3 times.

Hey - important point for all Rainman-fans: Ray could easily have edited out this deceptive first install. But he didn’t. That’s an honest man y’all! Btw- if I videotaped my work, reassembly would look like this “Hmm, not that bolt. Not that one either. Not this one…dam!” I never see Ray do that!
