You might want to look at using an impact driver instead of a drill. The impact driver will not strip the heads of the screws nearly as quickly as a drill, and stands a better chance of getting the screws out.
@paulpetraitis2130

actually since I've done those just using a screwdriver and and lightly tapping the end works best.(impactdriver breaks the head off too easy)

Also make a bench that has dog holes and use it with a ratchet clamp to hold things, it will stop accidents as you can have two hands on the tool at all times. Ron Paulk has a great design on RU-vid.

And yet another Pro-Tip, get yourself some reverse drill bits. The are priceless for broken screws. Most times the broken screw backs out when you are drilling them out.

The boat is looking amazing. I don’t know where y’all get all your energy I know you’ve already gotten the screws out, but for the future a manual impact driver($18-$30 on Amazon) works really good for that kind of thing. It’s a metal sleeve about 6” long that you put bits in. Can be screw tips or sockets. You twist the handle (works both ways) and then tap with a hammer. The combined twisting and tapping motion works really well for old stubborn screws and other such “delicate” items.

Paint-filled/corroded screw heads, Slot or Phillips, from one that has removed thousands: Corkscrew. Final cleanup with an ice pick. You get the point of the corkscrew into the head, then rock it back. It will PULL the paint/rust up and out. Also, you were almost there when you hammered the screwdriver. Notice the square shank on that screwdriver? Get a wrench on there and gently crank on it, while tapping. Impact driver, but you have more control. You can feel it when it starts turning. Also, maybe not with some modern paints, but before I go to paint stripper with small stuff, I try slowly boiling it. Just a hot plate sitting off to the side boiling stuff away while you do other things. Usually works well on most, old, oil-based paints. Tell us about that mask with the yellow cartridge. Sierra's looks correct, magenta, so Organic Vapor. What's Yellow? Great project!

Everyone saying "impact driver" for screws is spot on. It also sounded like the hammer setting was on with the drill. That would only be needed for concrete. Usually you dial the clutch back one notch to go back to drilling.

Protip: Heat the end of a screwdriver to red hot with a propane torch, then touch it to the screw head. Whatever's clogging the screw will be vaporized instantly. Works perfectly, every time. The heat won't transfer to the screw head fast enough to heat up its surroundings, but it will remove the temper of the screwdriver (so use a junky old one).

Hey guys, love your stuff. Been in construction a long time, I was going to say the same thing as some others. Invest in an impact driver. If you get a subcompact one it'll be plenty strong for fasteners and fits in tight spaces. It's probably the best kept secret. Only thing I will ever use on a fastener. The clutch drills are obviously better for drilling but for fasteners, they are eternally frustrating. Good luck, I'm glued to the project vibes!

Hi Guys. Just watching your Best inflatable Dinghy video from 2018, and I've been doing a deep dive on what to get as a tender for my Next boat. Major issues I've come across - Aluminium RIBs, Powder coating isn't cutting it, and the Tube joins are Failing ery fast AB Hypalon seem to be having major issues by 12 months old now - not an issue with GRP RIBs, but boy what a weight Penalty. Issues with PVC and Hypalon are Glued Seams. Welded PVC, Bot a basic problem, but an issue that affects both is owners over inflating Chambdrs, or ending up with Over inflated Chambers due to extreme Heat, which then softens glue and pulls Panel Joins Apart, forvwhichnof Course the Manufacturer gets Scapegoated, despite owner failure being the Real Pr9blem. Slatted floors shortening life due to wear and tear, plus ply slats rot very fast. Protective Chaps appear to be a great idea, but even if you can get them, they are horribly expensive, and hide things that need to be checked frequently. Full Covers which include an outboard cover, in UV Protecting material seem to be the way to go, and are available for a fraction of the price ? under 300 dollars US. When the inflatable is set up with outboard, when not needed, pop the Cover on. I had intended to get an Aluminium Hypalon RIB at 10 ft with a half ton load capacity and 5 person limiter easy ferrying of supplies and people, but as if now, I'm thinking same size PVC, with an inflatable Deck and Keel, with an air pump with a pressure gauge on it, to make letting air out when it's really hot, a no Brained, plus have a full cover. I'm also wondering if high factor UV Protection Sun Screen is safe to use on PVC Tubes and fittings, to help extend service life ? though on the forums, .I've come across people who have had the same PVC Tender in the Tropics, for as long as 15 years with no problems. I suspectbthey watch the air pressure and use full Covers ? One with a PVC Tender Overwinters his in his garage at home but after I think at least 8 full Seasons in the Texas Gulf Area, hasn't had any issues - which points to Covers making a big contribution to service life imho. Best Wishes to you Both, any updates on your Dinghy experiences and thoughts would be appreciated. I can't place an order for my new Monohull just yet, but Once it's Afloat with Dinghy, I'll try to remember to give some updates on what I'm finding. Bob. 👍🙂🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇺🇲

So the state has you send particles of paint airborne rather allowing a strong enough paint stripper,…sounds smart. I’ve found if you put wax paper or some sort of plastic film on top of the stripper after applying it helps extend the usable life of the stripper. Once it dries it almost hardens the paint further.
