Hey you wonderful people, this week I head further in to The Lake District, taking my Sony A7iii and a new (but old) infrared converted camera with me to see if there are any good photography opportunities in the beautiful fells of Cumbria.
The weather obviously had other ideas but I still managed to get a few snaps.
All with a dash of humour!

Great episode Colin. We were camping near Bourton on the Water recently and we used a pathway through farm land to get to the town. One of the fields was full of young bulls with one paying us far too much attention, we were S***ing ourselves😂

My top tip. I prefer walking in normal socks but carry my sealskinz with me as I rarely plan on getting my feet wet. If the worst happens I then put my seals on and it makes walking in wet boots bareable

I thought Goretex jackets were always waterproof but they are not. You need to use proper cleaner and then tumble dry and your jacket will be back to new. Nikwax do a good cleaner.

Thanks buddy, lesson learned. It's been properly washed (in the correct stuff) and re proofed now, so it should hold out the next time I have a sky bath :)

Why is it with new boots 🥾 you always seem to go in over the top - it’s like a magnet when you get them and they get wet through. Clever camera hack, always great to see reusing old tech for new uses - have a great rest of the weekend, all the best, David & Rachel 👍

The man sheep/ball sack bit was a howl. Just saying what we all see and secretly want to say! We’re late to the game with our VW camper - and have trawled YT content for the past three + years. There’s no one more authentic and relatable than Colin and his family. Too many are touting ‘merch’ and/or willy waving on the biggest/better/best next thing. The whole point for us is simplicity, dialling the noise/clamour of life down to what really matters. The content is bang on Colin. PS: we can see you house from where we live - Ilkley, just up t’road!

Great Video Colin, I stayed at Wasdale Inn a few weeks ago with friends and had a great time in the rain walking as many wainwrights as we could in the time we were there. I now know what gear I have that's waterproof and what's not 🤣Plan to come back in our campervan . Thanks for the recommendation of the campsite.

Love the back n white photos..stunning. The girl sheep is a ewe, the boy sheep is a ram. Did you know you can take the split ring off the hinge on the SQ Professional and that makes exactly like the RidgeMonkey where the two pans come apart. Put the ring somewhere safe in case you change your mind and want to put it back on. 😀

Gaiters for those conditions, old chap. luvverly modern boots and walking shoes have an annoying habit of wicking moisture down from that lovely soft ankle padding.

Totally get the need to recharge important when you don’t get your energy from being around people. Unfortunately nothing is waterproof only how much it can withstand that’s what the mm numbers are for , how much water pressure can withstand before water penetrates the material.

@@steve_and_lolas_hikes great coat with a very high rating hydrostatic head rating of 28,000mm but point still stands that every waterproof fabric has a limit, your coat is at the highest end of that so naturally yours will stay waterproof way longer in worse conditions but in theory it will leak if subjected to conditions beyond that rating.
