For that end grain to end grain glue up, I think I would have tried cutting opposite 45° angles on it, it usually helps make a joint like that less visible. I haven't tried it on a panel but on smaller pieces it has always worked well and ends up much less visible than a 90° to 90° end grain to end grain joint.
Thanks for sharing your learning experiences when using reclaimed lumber. I've been collecting these types of wood for future projects and you saved me lots of frustration
I find my scrap wood projects have the least linear + predictable processes but always turn out fine and suit the need. Validating to see your experience is the same. :)
If your clamps are too short - check out Mattias Wandel's channel. He recently showed how he extended one of his clamps with a homemade clamp extender out of wood. Maybe you could modify the idea for your clamps. Really enjoy your videos!!
I would have used the dowelmax jig to also help align the final glue up and the lip. I just have a biscuit joiner and I use the #0 biscuits just for the way they help align the faces....it’s quick and easy to cut biscuit slots too.
Yes, this is the situation in the world where it is commonplace to reuse pine instead of throwing it away. It becomes part of the job that you need to stop breathing in the fast planks and increase the time.
Somehow I missed this one... That came out great Art. Whenever you get around to building the new cabinet for the TV, you already have a top. ;-) A quick question about using your dowelmax with 1/4" dowels; do you find that the 1/4" dowels are a bit too snug sometimes? I noticed this on a recent project and I'm thinking about trying out a letter F drill bit as suggested in the manual. It'll give a couple thou of clearance.
Not really? So much depends there on the quality of the dowels. I used to buy 'expansible' dowels from leevalley (they were slightly compressed), but those are not available any more. Right now I have some that came with my last shipment from dowelmax and they work well. ... Hmmmm, now I'm not actually sure if I am using a letter F bit or not? I have to check.
@@Wordsnwood I might just have to microwave the dowels I have, I heard that can help with tight fitting dowels. I'm placing an order with dowelmax again soon, so I'll grab another bag to see how they are. The bit that comes with the dowelmax is 6.5mm and a letter F is 6.53/.257", I might grab one to try out.
The brand is "Grip Tite", but they've gone under, as far as I know. I picked it up 10'ish years ago. It was one of the first "strong magnet" featherboards that I'd ever seen, but there are now many.
Think the bearings or your sander are wearing out. The used to sound better in the past: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bn9F19Hi1Lk.html
