Tbh, most of them make me feel bad and/or lazy for not putting so much effort into my meals. Truth be told, I could eat the same leftovers for days straight and be fine (I have done this). I don't really care about food but I do enjoy sweets every now and then. It makes me think about food way more often, which usually then transitions into thinking about my weight. I know, despite the face I'm still 180 lbs at 5'8.

as long as the videos are realistic and show a good/healthy amount of food and not like" a smoothie and a salad is all I ate today and it was soo much, here is how you can do it too(how to eat less food)" or anything like it. I like watching them. 🤷‍♀ ∧ l But on days where I watch them (idk why) I mostly feel bad about the things I eat/ate that day and also feel like sh*t about my body.

I have a mixed opinion! I think the pros of these videos are: - introducing people to new meal ideas - motivating people to eat more nutritious meals - and inspiring people to live a more healthy and active lifestyle And the cons are: - sometimes these videos are unrealistic and not everyone can afford to live like that - negative comparison e.g body, lifestyle, aesthetics - they can make people forget that every body is different and not everyone needs the same amount of food. Someone could look at what these girls are eating and feel like they are eating too much or too unhealthy which can make them feel guilty so they start to restrict what they eat and become obsessive over calories, nutrition and weight

Sis I’m screaming . I’ve said this before , majority of the most viewed what I eat in a day videos of ones of people who are mostly white and thin, or thin celebrities. People watch more on the base of the aesthetic of the body of the creator not even on the curiosity of what the person is eating . There are so many people who are not thin who get dragged if they are not eating clean , yet thin people can eat whatever and there’s crickets.

@awtumn
@awtumn 2 года назад
Agreed. This is the exact reason why I do not use TikTok anymore. Although I enjoyed watching the 'what I eat in a day videos' for food inspo purposes, I'd notice people who weren't skinny were getting shamed. Shamed for choosing not to eat clean in every clip. It's like people forget that you don't have to eat clean 24/7. You can eat whatever the hell you want as long as you eat in moderation. People only seem to care about aesthetics nowadays.. Edit: To those reading this; eat the food that makes you feel good. Food that you like to eat. Don't force yourself to eat food(s) that you don't enjoy; whether it be "healthy" or not.
@futuristicgirl14
@futuristicgirl14 2 года назад
I agree it’s about the aesthetic but I do notice that food is a lot more balanced and colorful on the plates with thin girls, and a lot of heavier girls tend to either have massive portions of healthy foods or are binging on processed snacks. Let’s be real, it’s definitely a mix of portions AND the types of food being eaten that lead to skinnier or fatter bodies. And that’s okay

I grew up in Jamaica. Here, when the idea of a healthy lifestyle comes up, as in people wanting to eat more nutritionally packed foods, it's usually presented as moderate and affordable. Not just exercising, but drinking more natural teas, finding more home remedies and eating more 'ital' food. Healthy eating on tiktok looks VERY expensive as well as very pressuring. Certain foods are not accessible down here or cost an arm and a leg. So, if you don't watch yourself you'll feel like you're not doing anything right. I genuinely want to be healthier, and I know so many others do, that's why I try to follow people with more 'price-range fitting' habits and old recipes. It hurts me more though, knowing that there are people that can't even afford medicine, healthy-balanced meals or even treats. The worst thing you could possible do is create a society where a healthy lifestyle seems to be a privilege.

Me and you both girl. Grew up in JA too. When it came eating healthy I'd just try to not eat too much of one thing and cut back on the fast food. Also usually only drink water cause I can't handle a lot of salt or sugar at one time. But yeah it feels relatively easier to eat relatively healthy meals and fruits and veggies down in JA. Just that their ingredients are foreign to us so more expensive, same as our fruits are more expensive to them, i just try to swap out fruits n veggies based on nutritional benefits.

One of the biggest problems with Tiktok's "healthy" eating is that it's become a very narrow ideal of "healthy". Matcha, salmon, salads, lemon/chia water... all great and yummy foods, but you can't deny that it's weird that *many* WIEIAD influencers share very similar diets. It can indirectly demonise certain foods by virtue of being omitted. Everyone and every body is so different and I wish more of the "clean eating" side of TT reflected this

Even those people who promote that, they eat “bad food” it’s all for views and shit. That’s the problem with today. Everyone wants views. So they create THE SAME THING everyone else posts. It’s all chain reaction. They do it because when someone gets views for something, someone posts the same thing to get views too. Doesn’t mean they all eat the same stuff. They act like it for views. THATS IT.

with a european family, the appreciation and love for food was so prevalent throughout my childhood and still is now. I've been taught to love food and be thankful for it, to enjoy what I eat but to, of course, eat things within balance. And its amazing. It has taught me that eating a lot of food is nothing to be ashamed of, but taking care of yourself is important too and knowing when to stop. I've been able to live my life with joy just because I've been taught to love food and love myself. It doesn't sit well with me how much these standards and expectations of a "proper" and "healthy" diet is pushed onto people, especially young girls. It will do nothing to you but make you miserable if it's the one thing you prioritise in your life.

One's "healthy" lifestyle shouldn't be just an aesthetic you show off to feel people feel bad about themselves but a life-long mindset. Once I started doing things for myself and not for other people's validation I became so much happier, once I realized that eating "clean" makes me feel good and my gut happy I got used to the new diet really fast, however, a healthy lifestyle doesn't mean you don't treat yourself to some ice cream or a pizza every now and then. It is also important to remember that everyone's body is different and has different needs. So many factors are often overlooked. In conclusion: Food is your friend, not your enemy. Eat food that fuels your body AND your happiness.

I'm in my late twenties now, so I'm not exactly the same impressionable teenager I used to be, and I recently started working with a personal trainer. She had me track my eating habits for a week so she could see where we needed to make changes, and I was genuinely shocked to see how little I was eating. I never ever consciously restricted my calories, I wasn't intentionally starving myself, I really thought I was eating a regular amount, but every single day that week, I had over 1000 calories left in my recommended daily amount. Point is, as long as you are mostly eating healthy, whole foods to get the nutrients your body needs, even if you indulge yourself a bit on top of that, you more than likely have nothing to worry about. Your body needs fuel. Feed it.

Not to forget as I wrote you can develop real lasting problems with your body (my menstruation for example, still struggling with that). I would definitely recommend you to have someone who is very close to you help you with that. Maybe you could tell them earnest how you currently feel. A big help for me was my dad who encouraged me to eat. What also helped me was actually trying everytime I looked in the mirror to find something I like about myself, it started with things that didn't have anything to do with my body like my hair and eyes but slowly I felt also better about my body. I know from myself how hard it is, my eating disorder started when I was your age but now I am 23 and still have days where I catch myself not eating because I didn't like what I was seeing in the mirror.

I always thought: Oh no no I’m not comparing myself I’m just here for inspiration when watching these videos on the internet. There were also the people who told me: ooooh it’s all about balance. But I didn’t care. I still judged myself. Not others, only me. I know many people relate to this. I self sabotaged myself to the point I under ate and over exercised. What happened next? Lost my period. I knew I had an ed. I just didn’t want to accept it. I thought: oh, now I finally eat normally like those people. NO. Everyone is different and all you see maybe isn’t even the truth. I think you really captured this well in this video. It’s really important that there are still realistic people on the internet like you. Not everyone can follow that oh so healthy lifestyle. It may be good for these people but as I already said: EVERY BODY is different! I am just a teen. My body is developing. I exercise a lot. Plus: I love food sooo much. I NEED FOOD and so do you. Everyone deserves to eat. Even if you don’t exercise so much. The goal is to be healthy, not betraying your body. The chances of living in this universe are so low and we are so lucky. Our bodies do all these amazing things for us. And how do we return the favor? By hating it? It’s time to honor our body, cravings and life. By trying to keep our body AND soul happy and healthy. :) This might have been cheesy but that’s its the truth! Edit: Btw sometimes when I say “you” I don’t speak to Zoe. I kinda switched up who I was talking to Oop. First: the reader, then: compliment Zoe Last: the reader I didn’t notice until now that without context this sounded like a hate comment haha. Constantly having highly processed foods aka “junk food” literally changes the chemicals in your brain and causes food addiction (similar changes to a person addicted to drugs) this goes for everyone no one is an exception. Junk food does this to the brain but healthy natural foods does not. This is why I think it’s gross that people hate on healthy eaters. Your personal issues should never be a excuse to attack someone for literally eating clean. Just like how I’m aware people eating junk food, may trigger my binge eating- but I just skip them and don’t leave accusations on their TikTok’s. Self accountability is so rare.

Thank you! Yes its fine to enjoy treats, but crazy processed stuff often is just bad. Bad for gut health, bad for teeth, bad for joints, bad for liver etc... processed food is garbage. I treat that stuff like alcohol (in moderation) yeah this video leaned a little too far on the "not taking accountability for your own health" side. As it is right now the average American consumes wayy too much sugar and oil seriously its in everything. That said treats are fine if its balanced and people shouldn't hate themselves for having cake, just in proportion to your total intake

I already provided 2 links to actual articles on why you are wrong. There are not that big of differences between “high processed” or “junk foods” and “natural” or “organic” foods. Most food has sugar in it, sugar can be naturally occurring in foods. The body cannot differentiate between processed or naturally occurring sugars. Some processed foods can have more unnecessary added sugars, keyword is can.

Portion control is important but I think that a lot of trouble happens when people try to demonize eating food, just because it is processed. Especially when the supposed information you are spouting is not factually correct. This just screams I don’t hate people that do things differently but they need to be held accountable, educate yourself please.

I've always wondered about how these people are full with such small portion sizes, like i could never be full with that and i eat wayyy more than what they eat. This was just amusing at first but then it worried me to death.. to a point where i wanted to reduce my diet too. But i couldn't withstand the hunger. After a few months i came across a few good videos and realised not all bodies are same and different people have different food requirements. But still these 'that girl' videos affected me so much.

Honestly, everyone should eat as much as they need to feel full (as in "not hungry" not "about to burst" full). Personally some of the portions in the video look giant to me and I could probably stretch them out for an entire day. Some people look at me weird when they see my portion size and assume I am obsessed with counting calories and whatnot but the truth is that I just don't need much food to get full and I don't often feel hungry at all. Some of my relatives tried to make me eat a normal size portion at some point and I either make them mad by not finishing it and "wasting food" or I get very very sick. So yeah, listen to your body, not what other people tell you. Especially not people on social media.

Ican really relate!! I had ED when I was younger because of kpop idol's diet videos, where girls that are already in a perfect healthy weight would starve themselves and workout like hell just to look extra skinny, back in that time it wrecked my mind and it damaged my period and metabolism and mind so badly, I starved myself for so long and I would look at my body and always see myself as overwintered even tho I was not, and then I started binging and I gained a crazy amount of weight, then I decided to just stop caring about my weight, and just make sure that I don't gain weight, it took 2-3 years for me to get to a healthy weight-through minding my eating habits I was a very emotional eater- and I'm much more comfortable in my own skin, you got it girl you can get out!! ,also stay away from any kind of content that makes you feel bad, even if it's a picture of a fit girl, I know it might sound stupid like why would that make you feel bad, but it's ok to clean your feed from whatever is causing anxiety, even if it sounded stupid, it really helps, best wishes

In 2019, I started my weightloss journey, which resulted in me developing an eating disorder (bulimia nervosa which turned into anorexia). An eating disorder takes over your whole life and it was extremely stressful. "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels" is absolute bullshit, your body needs food to feel good. I was moody all the time, extremely controlling towards my family and friends and it made me absolutely miserable. The vitamin deficiency even made me suicidal. You are beautiful just the way you are, just because you don't fit into a certain beauty standard or aesthetic doesn't mean you're not worthy of love. You deserve the best ❤ And of course its important to take care of your health, but you have to do it in a healthy way to profit off of it in the long term ❤

I just realized that these dont affect me anymore, except for 'geez its half of what I eat in a day'. But as a teen with eating disorder, I was lucky that I did not run into these. I am happy that I got out of the eating disorder and now fully embrace my foodie-side! I love creating colourful healthy meals and salads, but if its not filling enough, I just add bread for example. What helped me with snacking, is smaller portions (I have some chocolate everyday) AND eating what I really love. I dont really care for crisps and fries, so I seldom eat them... its a waste of caloried that I can spend better... I do care for cake, cocktails and cheese... Since I started doing this, I seldom feel 'guilty' because I really enjoyed that cake.

Stressing about what kind of food you'd eat in a particular day seems too much of a stretch. I understand that people are actually minding what type of food they consume, however, it can completely get out of hand. I'd say that I'm also quite conscious about the amount of food I'd eat in a single day. There are times I'd skip out on meals, which technically isn't healthy, but sometimes it just couldn't be helped. Thanks for this insightful video, Zoe. Films and photos have been staged for hundreds of years and that is okay. It is okay for me to see super asthetic bowls on a super clean and modern kitchen counter. Within super saturated food with good lighting. While my counter is dirty. My bowl plain. My food grey and my kitchen light ugly yellow. I wouldn't film that.

Zoe you can eat large portions because you are slim genetically. If i eat the same portion as you I’ll look like a pregnant woman. The second fact, i cannot afford a gym subscription, train at home it’s not the same as workout in the gym unfortunately. These organics meals are very expensive in some countries. Some of us not only need to work but manage house work as we live alone. currently reading "the subtle art of not giving a f*ck" by mark manson, and something that really stuck with me is this quote; "It lasers in on what you perceive your personal shortcomings and failures to already be, and then emphasizes them for you. You learn about the best ways to make money because you feel you don’t have enough money already. You stand in front of the mirror and repeat affirmations saying that you’re beautiful because you feel as though you’re not beautiful already. You follow dating and relationship advice because you feel that you’re unlovable already. You try goofy visualization exercises about being more successful because you feel as though you aren’t successful enough already.” and then it goes on to say that our crises are not longer material, but existential and spiritual. and by not giving a f*ck about them, it simply lets us laser in less and focus less on the "problems" that we think we have, and let life take its natural course. so what if we apply this to "tips on how to be happier" and "what i eat in a day" and other like-situations? it changes our entire perception. i'm still reading the book but i would recommend! thanks zoe xx

THIS. This makes me feel like I’m not the only one being impacted by these “what I eat in a day” videos. My recommendations are almost all food videos which I love because I’m a bit of a foodie, but I also notice it is taking a toll on my mental health. I haven’t been diagnosed with an ED but have definitely noticed my relationship with food become more negative and complicated. I hate eating a handful of this and a handful of that because it doesn’t fit into a pretty picture of meals of the day like I see online. I feel stressed choosing what to eat every day because it’s so hard to determine what’s “right”. But life is messy. Some days your friend will share a box of donuts and you want to enjoy it with her. Some days you will eat late at night even when you’re not “supposed” to. And some days you will have an aesthetic avocado toast and smoothie. I’m still trying to learn that all of those things are ok.

I kind of disagree, it’s good to promote things like smoothies and yoghurt. Heart attacks are the leading cause of death globally. Type 2 diabetes can no longer be called adult onset because it appears in children now. Eating disorders suck, but there is a very good virtue to pull from this type of content. Healthy eating is becoming more and more important, and yes we teeter at times on EDs but that it should still be promoted as this world sees more and more obesity

Not to mention that those thin white girls grew up in a different and probably wealthier setting than most of the people watching. They had access to lifestyles, and foods that many of us did not have the pleasure of being able to afford or care about when growing up. So, throughout some of their lives, they possibly had that extra opportunity to build their body, life style, and eating habits during their adolescent life. This is not to say that they did not put in their own hard work and will power to get to where they are now, but I feel like there are some unrealistic parts of the story that go beyond them just deciding to be healthy one day. In my opinion, it much more difficult to be "healthy" when growing up in low income areas. Some childhoods are not filled with salads, balanced meal portions, and fancy restaurants. Instead, its cheap fast food, cheetos, frozen dinners, chips and soda because those things are very cheap, and your parents do not have to cook any of it.

tbh i am a skinny girl and i do eat whatever i want. while i do attribute that to a good metabolism, i find that the biggest thing i do is portion control. i dont eat 3 big meals a day, but rather i eat every few hours multiple times a day since the feeling of my stomach stretching from overeating usually hurts or feels uncomfortable. another thing that really helps is i try not to snack and if i do its something a bit healthier like seaweed snacks or a banana with peanut butter.

Watching these can truly harm some people's perception of food and their overall body image. I've been there and therefore I'm truly grateful Zoe for your eye opening video :)

Yes, I can't eat anything without feeling guilty or worrying if calculated the calories in my meal right. I'm getting sick of taking out a calculator and searching up how much calories are in each and everything I eat. I feel disgusted with myself if I eat anything "unhealthy." all those "healthy" foods taste plain and flavorless, not near anything as exciting and Delicious as portrayed online. It got to a point that I feel so guilty when I eat that I pretty much try to avoid eating at all, and instead I do something else to get my mind off food and how hungry I am. And I usually occupy myself by exercising. When you count your calories its addicting and it seems as if its not worth eating anything at all anymore because you start to realize how much calories are actually in EVERYTHING especially foods with flavor! calories add up really quickly, and when you eat things "low calorie" the portion size is extremely small and again, tastes like raw cabbage. Counting calories is seriously a dangerous game and no-one talks about it enough. For example if I think I ate a meal that I thought had too many calories or not "healthy" enough, it feels as though I gain pounds of fat on my body and I cant live with myself. Eating starts to feel like something I need to EARN. I don't eat near as enough calories as I should be and "rewarding" myself is like giving up. I see so much people my peers, and people online, eating delicious looking high calorie foods happily, and stay in perfect shape. I don't get it. I know exercising too much and eating too little can actually be a result of weight gain but I can't get myself to eat more or exercise less because in result of that I feel like trash. A lot of us don't like to admit it but good tasty food brings happiness and doing what i'm doing doesn't. fitting in size 0 but obsessing over each calorie doesn't feel good.

One thing that is very true for me, I loooove watching What I Eat In a Day, but I'm ALWAYS thinking... they eat so little food, as you said, their lunch is like a snack for me, I always thought that was soooo weird. I'm vegan and I follow a lot of vegan influencers (big and small) and I'm always surprised about their portions because I eat A LOT MORE (and it's normal but it gets you thinking)

My best friend and I had pretty much the same weight in high-school (it hasn't changed too much now, but I've gotten taller and our activity levels are different). We fit all the same clothes, same fitness level, the only difference was I was maybe half an inch taller? But I easily ate twice as much as she did every single day. If I tried to eat less I actually would end up gaining weight. That really helped me understand that different people literally have different requirements for their bodies
