Ironically it most definitely is. A classic beat, but production-wise there was little effort put into this by the Bad Boy producers. Those producers (mainly Puffy) were notorious for never really composing any original beats with a lot of the production on a ton of Bad Boy songs like Juicy, Hypnotize, Victory, Big Poppa, I'll Be Missing You and more all having beats that were simply made from loops of sections of other songs. Now of course you could argue everybody sampled in Hip Hop in the 90s and sampling is fine, I agree, but most Hip Hop heads will also agree that Puffy watered down the art of sampling and used it as a way to just re-release old hits into new tracks and make money of them. That is why I agree this beat sounds beautiful, but that's 99% due to the original by Bobby Caldwell. It's the Bobby Caldwell composition in the back and Biggie's lyrics alongside the dope chorus that make Sky's The Limit a classic. The beat however is just only good because of Bobby Caldwell. So yeah, a lot of Bad Boy and Puff Daddy production can definitely be labelled overrated for sure fam :P
Saints Renegade you obviously got no clue about what you're talkin about, maybe if you'd pull your head from the mainstream shit it's deep in you'd be able to see what's out there. quit makin a fool out of yourself.
+BriansThing Cause a lot of these 90's rap songs ripped beats from artist songs from the 70's and 80's this beat is sampled from bobby caldwell's "my flame". At first rappers did not get sued for copyright infringement cause the original artist never thought these petty rap songs were shit only to find out later not only did they amount to something but they far exceeded in popularity to even the original artist song and thus everyone got sued for royalties and infringement. Thus ending that era of beats and force rappers to make there own beats.
This beat is literally the music I listen to when I walk in the evening...the sky is orange and red and purple, the leaves rustling, the noise of traffic, and just putting in my earbuds and lifting my hood over my head, and just...walk. Reflect, contemplate, remember the past, think of the future, cherish the present, man. This is perhaps the smoothest beat of all time, tied with Today Was A Good Day by Ice Cube. Two of my favorite beats of all time. These were the good old days of hip hop, I swear.
You're right I will have to make this part of my morning routine, this and mic Geronimo shit's real and may even through Keith Murray, the most beautfifullest thing in there too, Peace to you.
My late father used to have this CD and would always play it when he used to take me to my summer job back in 2001. This was and remains my favorite track on it. He traded in the car the next year and was upset that he accidentally left it in the CD player when he did. Rest in peace to Dad and Biggie.
Man, this song is so powerful, I love going in the comments and finding peoples ideas and memories about this song, Rest In Peace to your Father and Biggie, stay safe out there
There wasn't much to it,the sample isn't chopped much, there's an overlay for the bass and added drums. Not mich to it technically,Notorious Thugs is a better beat to me. It was done from scratch.
This song just sounds like you’re reflecting on happy moments of your childhood, time with your loved ones, people you’ve lost. There’s so much life essence in this.
Easily one of the smoothest beats of all time, and a viable one-track answer to why the mainstream hip-hop of today is pure garbage. Even without Biggie's heartfelt story about his experiences coming up laid over it, this beat still puts pictures in your head and makes you feel something. Just read the comments and see the proof.
This beat reminds me and makes me think about my past. About 90`s and my childhood. We were 8 boys from two houses which was situated next to each other in small city center. but then government said we all need to leave and turned our houses to night clubs. We were all approximately same age (~12-14) so we were togather from day one and was doing all kind of shit what 8 young boys can do in the 90`s without internet and mobile phone :D !!! Since we were splited we doesn`t keep contact with each other anymore and the internet came later, when you was already grown up and forgot your childhood crew. And thats just life. I`m weirdo :D Some nostalgic times. I miss the old days !!! Time fly so fast.
naaah Dog...Far from Weirdo man!..im in the Same Boat with u!..Beats like this make u think..For instance...i see myself standing on a hill...an its a nice Cloudy Cool Day...an im lookin at the Sky..thinkin about my life..an my happy times as a kid..an the people i lost along the way....u ain't Weird brother..U jus a have Creative Mind!..
Damn, that end is kinda (pretty) saddening, do shit you did in the past with ur crew and u could possibly remember their names using pieces of your memory associated with your friends. That's what came to mind. Good luck and find your friends' names, you can do it. =)
@@angiesworld8038 It makes me feel bad and everything going on in my life I rlly had to listen to this I’m hurt and I’m a child I shouldn’t feel this pain I’m feeling RIP NOTORIOUS B.I.G 😭😫 !!
I can imagine listening to this beat in my car in the daylight in the afternoon. With the roof off and me driving with my friends in the back and we're just chilling. Enjoying life to the fullest. 😊
The song makes you sit on the hood of your car and watch the sunset. And as you looking at the sunset, you think about all the things you have done in your life and knowing that you can accomplish more because.....SKY'S IS THE LIMIT!
One day I'll be riding alone in my Benz After being broke in the past ... And I'll be listening to this masterpiece and thanking God and reminiscing about how badly I was treated in the past when I had nothing .. and I'll be saying " I did it " ... Believe in everything u dream of cuz sky's the limit 💙... R.i.p biggie gone in our sights and not in our Hearts❤️
this is the hip hop that will stand the test of time. This is one of the best hip hop tracks and i listen to it all the time. For most of us, this music brings us back to a better time when hip hop changed the world and everything was still new. Rip Biggie
Just days before my 17th birthday this track (album) dropped. 38 now. Still rock it. Classic beats never get old or die. Mad props to DJ Clark Kent who produced this beat.
This song hits so deep to the heart. A beautiful beat with excellent execution of rhythms. Nostalgic with an empty sorrow. I miss him and his talented personality 🥺😇🙏
Just sitting here thinking about life ,how far I've come and how further I must go. I'm an 80s baby that's seen and been through alot ,losing Pac and Biggie was is still a tragedy. Keep pushing forward and may you make it.
Sounds heavenly on me new Sennheiser HD800s! Can't believe it's been 20 years since I was listening to this in middle school, the beat sounds even better now!
Who could possibly dislike this? This is one of few songs that put me in my feelings. My mom used to sing the chorus to me as a kid and I'm glad she did. I will never forget those moments. It makes me think about everything I and my friends have been through. Ill never forget this
This world is wicked ..We all miss Big ,but to come bacc and live out here I wouldn't want that for him.He been through enough in his 20s and even before
I can listen to this instrumental and this song for days .It will just never get old.I really wish Big was alive he would have made so much more good music :/
this melody...the epitopy of melancholic energy...sounds like this they are a syphony that remedies... negativity flows and goes turning into something heavenly. so what's the recipe, don't contrive to survive... just thank ur lucky stars carve a path to the sky... there ain't a limit recognise that this heaven and your really living init....can u feel it. mirror image open up your inner feelings... coz when the clouds break its our fate the sky's the limit
I remember my - (now) wife (then) girlfriend - getting ready to go out with this CD playing in the background. We'd get into my little '94 Camry. Bump this song driving down Lake Shore Drive (Chicago) with the city skyline and the world in front of us. It was so sexy. I'm glad that Biggie was the background music to a chapter in my life's story.
I still to this day and while freestylin to this instro as I look at the album art and say to myself, Big knew it was coming. The rap era changed with the years and one thing I definitely noticed now is the 90s soul is untouchable. Reason why is because nowadays artist (male and female) do to what they think fans demand instead of doing what they feel- Putting their heart and soul on a beat. Same for the producer, when was the last time You heard a Hip/Hop beat like this?
moms always told me sky was the limit, she showed me the light, but then i had to dim it. bring it all down, then i made her frown so many times, i could tell she disappointed in her mind. i could see it. i wanted to be the best, best believe it. i never tried to make you sad, but no matter what i did, it always seem to make ya mad. but u still showed me love, no matter what i did u still gave me hugs. this is for u mom, still trying to make you proud, i love you mom and ill say it out loud. -jw
Grew up with this song. Really gives you hope, man. Just keep moving forward no matter what. There's always gonna be people telling you that you can't do it, but you've gotta keep moving forward despite all the negativity. Trust me, I know. ~Good night.
IMO the greatest beat of all time! Gives me a beautiful feeling and inspires me. It really looks like it was made when BIG got to the top of the world, and if you check that it really was like that! One of his last songs as I recall. Sky's the limit baby!
Now this is music!! The rap that comes out basically everday in today’s time is garbage! 90s you got a few cds a month and when it came out everyone was rocking to the same cd! Miss those days!!
Clark Kent said ll cool j Jay-Z and sauce money passed on the beat before he decided to give it to b.i.g That's why b.i.g the best cause he'll flow on anything
