Some of the tunnels under the castle were used as pistol ranges by local clubs and the police. They were blocked off when the area around Robin Hood’s statue was renovated recently.

Thanks for sharing the history of Nottingham Castle. So sad and tragic that those young Welsh 12 and 14 year olds were executed by King John in 1212.😢 You are a delightful narrator and host!🤗

Hello. In 1914 my grand mother went into labor & gave birth to my mother in Nottingham Castle. My grandmother was Maude Newey. She was a professional tailor/seamstress in England. Is this anything you could look into more for me & my three brothers?

I'm looking forward to visiting the newly renovated Nottingham Castle, once the health restrictions are lifted. Thank you for the information, I live only a few miles from Nottingham and didn't know half of the Castle's history.

I wish I had a Castle only a few steps away. I'd would be right there.🤗 You see, I'm from the USA. I live on the west coast in Oregon. We have little history. Maybe, 200 years on the west coast. Most things was make out of Wood. England has stones and rock buildings. All I am saying is you have lots of history. Probably you have some in your own back yard. Lucky you, I'm jealous. ❤️🙏❤️

Yes, there are masses of historic places within a relatively short drive, in common with most of the UK. It's fabulous if you're a History fan.

I live in Nottingham and like you, knew very little of the castle's history. My employer's former premises overlooked the castle and grounds. Watched the renovation work from my office until last March and am curious to see the end result. Hopefully it is not a let down. Would be great if the "proper" castle was still in existence as I don't like what is in it's place.

Did Nottingham Castle once have a medieval medicinal herb garden tended by monks, as would have been the fashion at the time? And if you don't know, can you recommend a source that might avail my search? It's for a research project.
