My thesis/dissertation/capstone documentary is about the football club that my whole family supports, Nottingham Forest, and how deeply rooted the club is in the supporters’ lives. It aims to connect with the people of Nottingham and those who support Forest, while also being able to reach a larger, American audience who may know know the club or understand what it's like to support an English football club.
You can find so many videos recounting the European Cup glory days, but the true backbone of this club deserves its moment. I did my best to capture the endless passion that these fans feel for our reds. English football culture truly is so unique and inherent in everyone’s way of life, but there is something a little special about us and the unrivaled energy and atmosphere created at the City Ground.
It’s common knowledge that the City Ground is a fortress. Love us or hate us, you can’t deny the electricity that is seldom missing at home matches, not to mention the TIFOs that put every other clubs’ to shame. Through relegation battles, FFP/PSR hits, VAR controversies, and even having one of our players’ names on the Epstein list, the supporters and the City Ground are so consistent. Mull of Kintyre never wavers. Managers and players come and go, but the fans have never left and will never stop demonstrating how much this club means to us all.
On this note, our desire is always to be here, you have to know how this would affect the community that Forest has worked so hard for so long to create. Renovate, rebuild, but do not move the City Ground. It would tear at the heart and soul of this club, of who we are.
While I know this will never be perfect and I know there’s always going to be things I want to change, I am proud of the work and many hours that I have put into this. I hope it’s as enjoyable to watch as it was to create.

As Ruby's dad, I couldn't be prouder of her and this incredible documentary. Each time I watch it, I find something new that makes my eyes "malfunction" (thanks for that term, @CaptainGrumblebum). I'm deeply moved by the wonderful, positive comments from viewers, and knowing that the documentary touches others so profoundly makes my eyes malfunction all over again. Watching it takes me back to the '70s, sitting in the main stand with my dad, our season tickets in hand, just behind Brian Clough. I can still feel the intense emotions when Liverpool set foot on our hallowed ground-the only team that truly concerned me back then. Little did I know that one day my daughter would create a documentary about my beloved Forest. Life is truly amazing... and we're still in the Prem! #NFFF #COYR

I know what you mean James about Liverpool. I still remember 1-1 draw on Boxing Day in 1977, probably the best game of football I’ve witnessed.

James I've been a Forest fan since 1978 when I bet my dad 10p that forest would beat Liverpool in the 1978 league cup final but it's quite strange really in all that time I've ever only been to the city ground 10 times the first game I went to was against Coventry city in 1991 when teddy sherringam scored the winning goal I went with my penpal who would you believe was a Derby county fan my penpal treated me to the game she even paid for my ticket and as an added bonus she knew one of the stewards and I got permission to go to the tunnel and get some autographs I got Roy Keane's Nigel Clough even big Norman who will know was Mark crossley it was fantastic as you will know we won the game

Thanks Ruby.... I'm a Malaysian who's been supporting Forest since 1977.My dream came true when in January 2020 i went to City Ground with my 2 sons watching their game against Reading. The Championship game ended in 1 all draw.I hope I'm able to come to City Ground again and watch them playing in the Premier League .I hope they conquer Europe again, hopefully I witness that in my life time.COYR.....

Saw my first game in 1966 (lost 2-1 at home to Newcastle) and then followed home and away until 1998 when I moved away from Nottingham, so saw all the European glory under Clough. Now follow vicariously through TV and Forest Focus podcast and always impressed by Ruby's contributions.............but this tops it. Brilliant. Well done.

You absolutely nailed it Ruby. Turning left from the bridge over the Trent. The second chorus of Mull of Kintyre after the music stops. The clatter of seats when we counter-attack. Celebrating with strangers when we score. And the fact we all think Forest are magic, even if we are battling for 17th in the Premier League.

September 26th 1970, Forest v Leeds. I was nine years old. I lived about 15 miles away from the City Ground. A couple of friends said "We're going to watch Forest". I said to my mum "Can I go and watch Forest?". It was a terrible game, it finished 0-0 but Forest had me. 53 years later and they still have, there's been good times and bad, but I'm still here. We've all spent a king's ransom following them, but what adventures we've had. Wembley on numerous occasions, I was in Munich on that glorious night. I wasn't at Wembley for the play off final though (I could have got tickets in the Huddersfield end, should have risked it), I was watching at home with my daughter who, in the last few years, has watched with me and taken Forest to her heart. If we won, I had it planned, I was out in the car blasting out 'Just can't get enough', a sixty plus year old man doing this. When the whistle went, that plan went out of the window, I put my head in my hands and cried. Someone once said to the great Bill Shankly "Football is like life and death to you, isn't it?" Shankly replied "No, it's more important than that". Bill knew. Great video, well done.

Thanks Ruby for this excellent video - made by a Forest fan for the Forest fans. I was a season ticket holder during the glory years, but I have always listened to their games despite leaving the UK in 1981. From blizzards in the the Himalayas to sand storms the Negev Desert, I experienced the agony and ecstasy of being a Forest fan. Enjoy your summer.

As a man of 45 years, I do not cry, at all. I must admit that I had a small tear during this, as it reminded me of where we have been and where we are now. I can't believe you managed to get the best footballer I have ever seen on this, the great Stanley Victor Collymore. Our club is a very special one. Thank you Ruby.

I have just had a granddaughter, and this wonderful documentary brought a tear to my eye at the end. How I can't wait to take her to the world famous for the first time and let her feel what I feel at every home game. This football club runs deeper than just football, it's more than that, much more, it's all of you, the supporters that make it what it is. The City Ground has football God's as its ghosts, and many supporters souls who went before us all, who are no longer here today, they all roam around unseen at every game, they are there though, I feel them and I know true supporters feel them too. What we have is special, this amazing piece of work shows the world why it's "always to be here" and only here. Bravo Ruby, fabulous stuff.

Well that was rather wonderful. Love the description of the world-famous City Ground as a secular version of church, as opposed to a mere stadium, a place of worship, an act of devotion. Just a shame that Steve Cooper didn't feature more directly in the film. We owe him and will always be in his debt, regardless of his sad departure.

What a fantastic piece that was. Im 63 now and have been so lucky to have seen us win the league at Coventry followed by 10 trips to Europe including both European cup semis and finals all the Wembley fa cup and league cup finals and have spent literally thousands of pounds over the years following our great club home and away. However one of the most emotional and heartfelt joy moments for me was witnessing the thousands of our younger supporters at long last after 23 years of waiting experience the absolute joy of finally winning promotion in the play off final giving them a taste of what a lot of my lot experienced so many times back then. Actually chocked me up to be honest.

What an amazing little documentary - when I was a young man I went to the City Ground every week, driving from Northamptonshire and standing in the Trent End. Unfortunately one car crash driving up and some other medical issues took their toll and I’ve not been back for a such a long time. I loved this documentary. Some of by fondest childhood memories come from watching Forest with my dad at the City Ground. I now live in Japan with my wife, but I still try to follow every game. Perhaps the game which means the most to me was the 3-2 win over Leicester in April 2011 and the little run of wins we put together to end the season. This came just a few weeks after my town had been devastated by a tsunami. In the days that followed I suddenly found myself at the centre of an intense global media storm as a “tsunami hero” which was something that never sat right with me as my natural reaction to adversity is always to dig deep and work hard. Forest were my release during this time as I listened to the radio broadcasts and for some reason those memories have really stuck with me.

All I'll say is thanks. Its difficult to encapsulate what a football club can mean to so many random people, especially from such diverse backgrounds. I think of the random days I've spent with my dad travelling to whatever grounds we go to, all to see us play awfully and lose. Wembley made up for that. He saw us during the 'glory years', I'd never been until that day. Like a lot of people have said, the experience of that day that myself and my dad had, is something that neither one of us will forget. I'm really happy to see that you've touched on how it can help people with their mental health, I've struggled all of my life with my MH, but, Forest have allowed me to 'turn off' my head, and actually focus on something else, even if its just for 90 minutes a week. Those people who sit around me are just as much of a help to me and my condition/illness, as any doctor or therapist. They treat me as a Forest fan, not the fat guy who struggles to leave the house as he wants to die. Thank you for showing what the club means to us. COYR.
